Were the craftsman pro tools like the red and black handled screwdrivers discontinued? Were they U.S. made? I saw a set at the flea market this weekend and that is the first set I have seen in person.

From my Experience, if you have ever seen the soft grey handle screwdriver kit or the black square hard handle version, its better than the clear handles and considered Premium. The ratchets and sockets had a nice finish to it, and if i recall right, finer tooth, and not 84T. My sears never had a set when it was available, but as nooby as i was, i woulda special order them through sears. Buut... they always had a good sale on sockets and stuff.

I’d grab the set, but don’t expect to warranty anything

I didn’t really start buying tools until after mostly all of the Pro stuff was gone. I just missed the last sets of the black handled us made pliers when they were going away.

So look up on ebay Sears Professional or craftsman professional and then use those prices to gauge your haggling strategy, cause they are supposed to be Tool truck equivelant and V series rare *flamesuit on*

The Craftsman Professional tools are long gone aside from the crazies on Ebay asking often often crazier prices for some of the stuff. :wtf:

I never really cared for the last version of the Craftsman Professional screwdrivers though, didn't care for the handle. I think my favorite version were the black hex shaped blades with the orange tapered hard handle. they were easier to see than the all black version.
I also liked the Armstrong made long pattern fully polished combination wrenches. Luckily, i have more than a couple of sets to last me forever.
The ratchets really weren't anything to write home about but, some people like them. I thought their balance was off.
As for the V series being the best thing since sliced bread, that's a matter of opinion. To me they were never the equal of a tool truck brand but, they were pretty good in their day. I think the mystique about the V series is that the later models of US made Craftsman tools weren't as good as the V series.

Wait... i was referring to the “industrial” craftsman... those are “king arthur riding a unicorn swinging excalibur and drinking mountain dew out of the holy grail” impossible to find.... and beyond unreasonable to buy when you do

Yes, the red and black Craftsman Pro are gone. They disappeared a year, maybe 18 months ago. There were a few threads here with guys chasing the closeout sales.

Those drivers were made by Western Forge and are still available in green and black through SK Tools.

.

It seemed that those screwdrivers came out of nowhere and went right into the clearance basket. I bought a few of them whenever I went in Sears.
