While cleaning up an older 40" ball bearing bottom box (red with gray drawers) I purchased today, a thought struck me. Older boxes have more scrapes, scuffs and possibility for paint flaking and loss than newer boxes.
Why doesn't Sears stock rattle cans the color of their tool boxes? Would the company that actually makes the boxes prohibit Sears from selling the paint? It would be much easier for me to walk into the local store and buy a couple of cans than it would be for me to try and match the color on the drawers.
Or could this be a case of liability on Sears behalf stocking rattle cans, whereas their insurance might prohibit it?
Anyone out there know the paint code for their gray tool box drawers?

I'm surprised Sears doesn't have a part number for a spray can of touch up paint.

Billy is right, a good paint shop can mix you up a can. Just give them something big enough to go by, like a drawer or something.

The problem is that the Craftsman 'Red' changes a lot by vendor and over the years across product lines. Just compare a new box to one from the 80s or even a compressor. You would need a big rack to stock every shade of red that has been used by Craftsman.

The manufacturer uses a baked-on heat cured enamel paint. Pretty durable, but it does wear and scrape with hard use and harsh conditions. Age and time itself usually has not much effect on it's wear either. Truth is that I think they don't sell touch up paint because no real tool user I know of has ever had any inclination to re-paint his tool box or touch it up. I mean we don't keep jewelery in these things on top of our dresser/vanity. We keep hard working tools in them and a few scrapes and dents just adds charecter to the box anyway.
