Those middle boxes are extremely hard to come by. I've seen a couple change hands here on GJ, but have never seen one for sale out in the wild. Good luck!I'm looking for a vintage craftsman middle section for the red and gray set for sale. I would purchase the complete set if needed as well. Ive been looking for years for my dad and would really like to get this for him.
Any info would be helpful.
Dkroth, looks like you got a brand new shiny setup. Let us know how you like it after you' e used it for a while. Looks sharp.

Well, I just had to do it. I got this chest from a pawn shop today. I'd been eyeing it for a while, but it had a few junky tools in it, and a $59.95 price tag. I asked how much for just the box. The nice lady said 5 bucks. Of course, I can't own it unless it is all mashed and rusted up. I would have paid 5 for just the emblem, so I think it was a good deal. This one will go on the back burner for now til I finish my other Craftsman tool chest project.
Good parts if nothing else.![]()

Thanks I'm going to go look now for the date. I actually am thinking about using it for parts: I want to make a small roll cart that looks vintage and put the two drawer on the top. I have a few ideas in mind. I might even build around it. My head is swimming with crazy ideas!

Just picked this combo up from my granddad's house.

Ever since his strokes, he's been selling his tools and equipment off. There's been some other stuff I missed out on like is welder and torch set up (bottles, lines and torches) and lathes, mills and drill presses, but I got this top and bottom box slammed full of tools. These will get used next to the vintage grey and red craftsman that was full of tools that he gave me last year.
The story , ......... I bought it a couple of months ago for $30 , it was listed on Kijiji.
My memory is a little hazy and I'm not sure but I think these were a limited edition in the craftsman catalog back in the 90's , 80's ???
I was hoping someone would look at my pics and respond with a ... Hey , I remember those , they are rare , hard to find and sold out quickly when they were available .
Only available in Canada ??
Someone knows
We get different stuff here , as in , the selection of Craftsman tools is different . It seems that the stuff that's available in US stores is a much greater selection of tools. Craftsman in Canada has downsized , what is displayed in stores now is a fraction of what was available in years past.
I've been trapped in my house over the Christmas break. Whenever this happens, I turn to advanced searches of the Internet to satisfy my tool addiction.
I've scoured the country looking for an early 1960s Remline top box and came up empty (of course). During the process, I noticed something interesting about the Craftsman red and grey boxes. There are literally dozens of them for sale at any given moment. Prices are all over the map too.
For example, the attached stack is for sale in Rochester, NY and the guy would take 100 for the entire stack. Meanwhile, in New Mexico, a guy has the same stack in much worse shape for sale for $500. Crazy.

It's listed for $150. Did you speak with him already?

I'll go pick it up and hold it for you if you Paypal me the $$
Here's another one for $250 which seems to have two extra drawers on the bottom.

I'm far from an expert in the old Craftsman boxes. I would have never noticed that the badging is wrong. lol

Cool. How about showing off some of those vintage tools in the draws ( I've always wanted to say draws on a forum) Strange I know.
