I would like to think the toolmaker would like to identify their work!

Maybe, but their ability to divulge such information might be in violation of contractual agreements (be they implicit or otherwise.)
This is why you won't be able to get Klein Tool to tell you who made their sockets and ratchets, and why you can't get Wilde Tool to tell you who they're making pliers for, and why you get vague answers from Proamerica about who's buying their pliers, and why the best clear-as-mud answer you can get from Kastar/Lang about what they're supplying to who is "Snap-on is our best customer." (quote verbatim)
So all you can do is try to put together little pieces of a big puzzle with tiny snips of anecdotal information, which in these cases is often the best information you're going to have.

And no, you can't quote me on this.

I see a number of posts referencing Craftsman =V= series. Are these ratchets and sockets different or special in any way from the stuff currently made?

I posted the following catalog picture in another thread earlier but it might help explain things. The catalog said these wrenches exceed government spec. I have tried to find any current statement, or advertisement saying the current Craftsman tools exceed spec and nobody could come up with anything.

Wow, I didn't know people would pay quite that much for a set. I have two 1/2" rachets, with baby rattles instead of butterflies, but otherwise have 7/16-1_1/16", with both extensions and a couple breaker bars. Whole thing was at an estate sale with a ton of other stuff, and it only cost about $30 (came with a full set of =V= combo wrenches too). Did they ever make a =V= 3/8" socket in 1/2" drive?

Not sure. The 1/2" drive =V= socket set I picked up at a garage sale this year runs 7/16 to 1 1/4. Came in the tool box with Breaker bars, DBE wrenches and other things for $10

I just put a couple of sets on ebay today that I sorted out of my 900 or so Craftsman extras. They both ran from 7/8 through 1 1/8".

I can't get rid of Craftsman fast enough. I had dropped down below 900 by steady ebay selling, but bought a couple of tool lots that put me back up towards 1000. I call it the "Craftsman Curse". I'd like to have none, but haven't been ruthless enough to resort to throwing them away to get there. I've been selling them steadily on ebay for a couple of years, and they average about $2 to $3 per piece. Some of the V stuff does a lot better than that.

Wow you have a lot of Craftsman then lol I find them all the time at pawn shops so I have gotten enough to make multiple sets which I use everyday at work and home. I have ordered some off of eBay before too for odd sizes that I didn’t have and needed

I thought they were doing this so they might get people to come back to Craftsman tools solely based off of the "V-Series" name. Unless they are producing the new VSeries back in the states ONLY, I'm sure not a lot of people will care to grab em.
