Here are the steps to take if you don’t want to go to a store.
I've used this process twice, and both times was impressed with the speed of response. Once was a broken hex socket; replacement was mailed. The other was a broken handle on a fiberglass shovel. They didn't have what they felt was an equivalent model, so they sent me a check. Unless there's an urgent need for a replacement, zero reason in my mind to spend time trying your luck at a retail store.

I had this problem when Sears ran craftsman. Had an old lady working the tool area tell me they didn’t make it anymore. So, I was sol.
Took a couple managers to work this complex problem through. I walked out with new screwdriver but quit buying craftsmen products that day.
Once upon a time, toward the end of the manufacturing move from US to China, I had a 10"? (USA) 3/8" extension that wouldn't fit sockets. Took it to Sears, and all the equivalent models were made in China. But there was a 1/2" in the same length that was USA-made. I asked if I could pay the difference and take the 1/2". Guy thought about it for a second and said just go ahead and take it, I appreciate that you're supporting USA-made stuff.

Contrast that to a few years later, different Sears location, I brought in a 3-drawer middle tool chest that had arrived warped. Manager refused to swap it out because I couldn't prove that the defect happened during manufacturing vs during shipment to me(?!) Went back and forth for a bit on this. Eventually I looked around the store, pointed out that there was not a single other customer present, asked his thoughts on why that was and whether he wanted to alienate their only remaining customer. I did not get the replacement.

Vessel might make good screwdrivers, but I can’t think of a single retail establishment that handles them.
Sears used to be one . Not all old Craftsman screwdrivers are ****; they ones Vessel made for them are pretty nice!

Sear at one point had the ability to get all those logistics and technology via buying Amazon. They didn't bite and set themselves up for failure. They set up their online presence too late, then went on a fire sale to try and gain some footing. I remember the deals they had right before they went belly up.
The deals were unbelievable. I had to look up the specifics on this - I ordered an SPG international 42" tool box, original price $1899
75% discount to $475
$35 off $300 coupon dropped it to $440
Free shipping to my home (it weights 349 pounds, shipping discount $266.95)
And I earned $254 of rewards points on this transaction

I then bought the top box, on sale from $1399 to $350
Another $35 off $300 coupon
Also free shipping (discount listed at $202.05)
And I earned $253 of rewards points on this one

After tax, I paid $793 combined for two items with $3,300 MSRP, Sears ate the shipping on both, and I got $507 back in money to spend on other tools.

I bought a 8" shank 5/16" flat head screwdriver with the red and clear handle from Ace hardware a few years ago. It was still in like new condition when were working on my sons car a couple weeks ago. We broke the tip off it and I wasn't too concerned because of the Craftsman warranty. I took it back to Ace today to get a new screwdriver. I checked to see if they had the same one in stock before I brought the old one in. I showed the screwdriver to the employee and he said we would look to see if they had one. He found the identical screwdriver that I had seen on the shelf. He said that they could not exchange it because the ones they had were a different part number because they are now made in China and mine is USA. I don't fault Ace hardware, but what a shady way for Craftsman to get out of honoring their warranty.
I'd try again or a different store or call the 1 800#. Snap On trucks try this baloney every once in awhile too.

Eventually, they started paying them out weekly instead of in a lump sum. I remember having a reminder set on my phone for Saturday mornings to go to the site and order more free tools.

There was a lower tier of those international tool boxes, and I ordered a top box to put on a HF roller. That one listed at $900, but after being marked down and adding a 15% friends and Family discount, it was $220. My points from the other boxes had shown up, so no money out of pocket for that one - except Sears finally wised up on the shipping and charged me $39.25.

Wonder why they went **** up?

Back on screwdrivers, I did find a couple of 1960s or 70 s Stanley’s in my stuff that look pretty sturdy, and several store brands that look to be PrattReed bury similar to the Craftsman of the day, along with several unlabeled drivers that make the old craftsman’s of similar age look like absolutely stunning precision tools

When I catch myself wasting too much on dumb **** (or dumb people), I remind myself of this gem from Randy Pausch: “Time is all you have. And you may find one day that you have less than you think.” :dunno:
All my relatives...

When I retire I will have more free time

Reality:

Now that I am retired, why do I feel like I have less free time?
