Man, if it was just $3,999.99 I would jump on it.
be careful you jump in the middle, the ends are not supported, and you might tip it over if you are jumping out there.

Real "Steampunk" style is usually very clean, shiny brass fittings/Gears/accessories mixed with well-made leather goods. Picture modern items if they were built in 1905.So "steampunk" means made from junk that you didn't feel like cleaning up your welds, sanding off the rust and painting. And it goes for more money than if you did clean up your welds, sand off the rust and painted it. Got it.

The stuff you are describing sounds more like the "Rat-Rod" movement, with otherwise cool cars rusted on purpose and repairs made to look janky.
"steampunk" LOL.....Don't even get me started!!!
The local yayhoos in my area that weld a bunch of junk together and ask $300 for it on CL - "steampunk lamp" LOL! The last one that I saw had a base made out of a late-model wheel hub or rear end gear with an ABS tone wheel on it (meaning that anybody who knew car parts would immediately recognize this as NOT being a vintage part).
I've seen vintage chrome-plated brass Binks air filter/regulator units (like the one I rescued from a junkyard 25 years ago and am still using) ruined in a similar manner.
Yeah, I'd pay ~$200.00 for it.....LOLThe value in that table is actually it's usability. I've been shopping for a woodworkers bench to use with hand tools. Grizzly sells a unit that is bigger than that brand new for $1000. Even the top of the line Lie Nielson table brand new is only $2500. He's off his rocker.
Not to brag, but I made a small cabinet for a benefit, Oak, sanded nice, frame panel door, drawer in the bottom. So "steampunk" means made from junk that you didn't feel like cleaning up your welds, sanding off the rust and painting. I'm actually in the design process of designing myself a kinda steampunk machinist toolbox if you have any suggestions.
I always thought that something was worth, what someone was willing to pay for it.
No?

Now that building is cool!Nope.
Steampunk is a fusion of neoclassical and early modern/industrial design. It is quite artistically sound, and aims at drawing in notes from various eras. From an architectural standpoint it's brilliant and striking; from an impression standpoint it can be nearly overpowering.
Obviously, as in any era, the original architectural forms blend with product and clothing design reflecting a historically eclectic era. Taken as a whole, and not hammered together in someone's garage, it can be stark and inviting at the same time.
In that regard, it's not too far removed from the art deco era; the concept behind both is much like the okra thickening a pot of gumbo.
The most influential steampunk introduction into this most modern of eras was the computer game/book Myst and it's sequels. Almost single-handedly, it brought the fascination of all things mechanical and mysterious into the imaginations of children and adults the world over.
It was why people bought their first CD-ROM drive.
Included is a picture of the main entrance to the developer's headquarters.
As with anything, though, there are hacks. You just see more of them because of the net. Architecture isn't for everyone, and neither is industrial design. Indeed, most people **** at it.
If you want to see terrible design, many of you simply need to walk outside, turn around, and look at your house. If you're living in one of these developments built fairly recently, you live in the conventional version of what amounts to a lamp made of bicycle parts.
If you want to see the wonders steampunk has brought us, just type "steampunk girl" into google and click images. You should all be thanking this movement. I know I am.![]()

The ad reads,"1930 Table Jigsaw - $2000 (Dansville)
Just needs the cord replaced because it blew out of the motor. Worked like a champ when we had it running definitely worth the money. Price is firm."
People around here can't sell a 1950s cast iron Delta Milwaukee 24" scroll saw for $100, and this guy wants $2000?!
That's too funny, "definitely worth the money. Price is firm."^ does the fact that the ad was posted 2 months ago tell you anything?![]()
Today's
Delta/Rockwell Homecraft Combo Saw Jointer Drill - $825

Admit I've never seen the three sold as a unit, powered by only one motor; individually, with three separate motors, I couldn't get $100 each. BTDT
jack vines
That is pretty crazy.Interesting combo - drill press is powered by belt which is driven by the table saw arbor, with a base made specifically to clamp the DP to that table saw. So the DP is actually an attachment for the table saw. Not worth near $800+, but not something you see everyday.
That is pretty crazy.
I was going to say, somebody had to have rigged that.
But l guess that's the way it came.
Sort of a shopsmith type of Idea.
Can't say I have ever seen that before.
A guy would be better off getting a different motor, and setting the DP press up on a different stand.
