Not super surprising. I have shipped stuff to Japan, Australia and a few other countries. It is because they can still get it in the USA or is cheaper in the USA, or not a brand they can get in their home country.

Like wise I have bought from all over the world, a lot of brands are just not available new or used locally, people have many reasons to go after a particular tool from wherever when they could get something similar locally.

Then there are collectors who will pay anything to fill a missing spot in the number sequence.

I bought a whole garage from a furrin' car tech and came across a couple of Lancia tool kit wrenches. They're the typical OEM tool kit junk, but not trying to make big bucks, I assume someone somewhere with a Lancia will want them, so I took the trouble to do an eBay ad. Will be interesting to see what country they mail to.

You U.S. guys do not realize how spoiled you are with those flat rate boxes you have.....the rest of the world pays full price.

When I open Jack's wrench auction, it shows $15 ($21 CDN) postage to Toronto...........still a good deal if I wanted them...I cannot even drive to the border for $20. It is all relative.

I'm guilty as charged too. I've imported from New Zealand to Canada via a helper in Australia because the New Zealand seller didn't want to ship out of country. $50 worth of wrenches cost me $120 in shipping. I've done the same from the US to Canada via some very helpful GJ'ers under the same circumstances. (Seller ships to GJ'ers who then relay shipping to me). Most of us have a similar weakness for one tool or another.

I buy cordless Milwaukee tools from US. Paid anywhere from $20~$50 for shipping.
It's still cheaper than buying locally, where the retail price is double.

US prices even on new are typically half of what i would pay for here.

Especially deals like during black friday. Furthermore the Euro is stronger than the dollar giving us an exchange rate benefit.

Finally it can be difficult getting AES sized tools here for an affordable price. Certain items aren't even for sale. I had to order my grinder wheels from beaumont as alloy grinder wheels simply aren't produced this side of the pond unless they are custom made. (well not produced yet - thread to follow on GJ)

The obny thing to watch for is the voltage difference on power tools (110v vs 220v standard in europe)

Example of the above: My dad bought a cordless 18v makita with 3amp cell online in the US for 99 dollars over x-mas holidays.

Same cordless driver goes for +-189 eur online here (ex shipping). At the current exchange rate thats 206.25 USD. Anything under 200 euros can be imported duty free to Holland. So shipping under 106 usd would mean getting it cheaper than here.

my 2c.

I had a car part listed for BIN$54.00/Best Offer. Buyer makes an offer $40.00, I counter offer for $49.00. Buyer makes a counter offer of $45.00, I counter offer for $47.00. Then buyer decides to purchase it a BIN $54.00! I'm thinking WTF!, did we just do all this offer/counter offer/offer **** for?

Buyers are lining up for the =v= series craftsman sets.At some point you must
Accept that its also collectable not just for using.I was given an expected but not
So soon gift from my father.when we came for christmas dinner he told me he
Thought it was time to start giving me his tools. He was a machinist for 40 years
And also has a very nice collection of mostly =v= craftsman and sk tools.
So for me this is nice to see that this era of craftsman tool is getting its just due .

Guys, the reason shipping out of the states is so expensive is due to the eBay GSP, or global shipping program.

That is the biggest scam I've seen in a long time. eBay basically forces you to use it.

It was $35 dollars to ship a 12 oz tool to England. PLUS the import tariff.

Also, the various duty fees and tariffs can kill you on cost.

The US is lax on this stuff. I can buy a NEW 6 piece RATCHETING wrench set that weighs two lbs from CHINA for $3.50, FREE SHIPPING, ON EBAY.

Funny thing about ebay's GSP is it makes some items cheaper to purchase and import, multiple items its a pain, but a single item is usually cheaper in the end. Largely because of the £8 customs processing fee we have to pay before we can get the package.

^ If that were indeed true, there wouldn't be the glut of them currently listed on Ebay - at least one or two 1/4" drive sets are listed daily (over the course of the last two months), and most have been compromised; either they're missing pieces or other production code pieces have been put in to replace the originals. Very few of them are all original, matched, complete sets.
And if buyers were "lining up" for them, why aren't the cherries being snapped up, and why (inexplicably) are buyers bidding on the turkeys and seemingly missing the good stuff?
Why would somebody bid $29 + $10 shipping on a rusty, missing pieces POS set like THIS? >>
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252232471858?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

... When two days ago I snagged a complete, in-the-original box, all =V= set (with "flying V" butterfly ratchet) for $24 including shipping?

There is no shortage of Craftsman -V- or =V= stuff out there scattered all across the country in garages, basements, repair shops, thrift shops, pawn shops, and grandma's pantry.
That any of it is "vintage" or "rare" or that any of it should command the kind of prices being paid are all absurd notions.

Exactly what you said missing pieces compromised different shade of chrome
Wrong ratchet no breaker .there not selling but unmolested sets of =v= series
Are getting multiple bids.I saved a bunch and they all had multiple bids and
Sold for good money.also when the seller puts a high starting bid that usually hurts them .people will bid it up on there own.

I had a Corbin seat for a Yamaha FJ1200 for sale on an FJ website. A guy from Australia was seriously considering paying the $157 to have it shipped, because they were rarely available there, and when they could get them, they were still more expensive.

That is because shipping from US is expensive, not because the part is special.
I bet that 40$ was the only shipping choise he had.

Tell me about it! I'm constantly searching for a cheap 1/4" drive deep 1/8" socket. $4 for a Napa one, $8 for SK. Shipped to me in the UK, $65!

Even USPS flat rate small box would be better at around $25. If you need help shipping a socket, I'd be happy to help you.

I have a friend in Germany who loves Craftsman tools, the new stuff. He will order it on sale and I pick it up for him at the store, then ship it overseas. I can't understand why when they have good German tool brands over there :dunno:
