So I am looking for a non ratcheting set with the crimping profile for the open base type terminals like the ones knipex do, nearer the handle. The ratcheting type are too bulky and these knipex ones are too involved... anyone ever seen what im after? Or what the terminal terminology is so my search cam be a bit more accurate....

I have a few of the plier style crimpers...Klein 1005, Channellock 909 etc...is that what you're looking for?

The Kleins used to be my go to. Now these are my favorite. http://store.snapon.com/Crimpers-Pliers-Terminal-Crimping-Cutter-9-3-8--P709447.aspx
Best cutters in a crimper ever. And the most comfortable handles in any plier i have used. That goes for all my snap on pliers. They really did get the handles right.

You do realize those aren't for barrel crimps right? those are for insulated and non insulated terminals. Different than the ones you initially asked about. :dunno:

Zkling is correct the Channel locks and Kleins are not for open barrel terminals and will not do an acceptable job on them.
I have several - from the above listed weatherpack pliers to Thomas and Betts, and AMP among others. As to price of the Molex ones - when you buy OEM spec'd or produced tools you pay for it but in some cases those are the best and are required for certain services. I have some of those said tools because we (my father's company and myself when I worked there) made prototypes, pre production runs, and in some cases production medical and military spec devices which have (or had) very specific requirements and specs for everything.

This is an open barrel connector:

The Channellock 909 will not crimp that.

I am in the process of installing a new wire harness in my Mustang. It is made by American Auto Wire and nearly all the terminals are of that type. AAW sells the appropriate crimpers, after I purchased mine from AAW I searched on Google after finding the manufacturers part number still on the box. This place has the best price that I could find. If you call or email them they will give you a price list and ship quickly, tools T14 and T15 are for that type of terminal.

.... The thomas and betts ones are the best part of $150 from what I have found and whilst i would love a pair they are a bit too much to justify. .
:( just last week I broke a pair of Thomas and Betts insulated crimpers - on the order of 20 years old. they squeezed their last yellow **** connector. I heard a "click" and the handle closed a little further than normal...didn't see anything out of the ordinary until I put in the next connector and the jaw fell off... I just stood there for a second like :eek7:
