Having 0 luck searching, I must be using the wrong keywords.

I am planning on making my own Mechanics Time Savers knockoffs out of some scrap Corian from an old countertop. Example of their product https://mechanicstimesavers.com/coll...ket-organizers

What I'm having an issue with is finding ~3/16" thick magnetic sheets to use for the base. Thinking this sheet may be cheaper and easier to work with than the alternate thought I have below. the ones on the MTS / Kobalt seem to be that rubbery/plasticky magnetic material.

my other thought was to use the router to make a groove in the underside and use Neodymium magnets glued into the underside of the base, but they may be too strong for smaller sockets and make the project a little more complicated. Also not all that cheap. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R17XH4Y/?tag=atomicindus08-20

thoughts/input on magnet options?

Your original link doesn't work but wouldn't your local craft store have magnetic sheets? Micheals, JoAnn, etc...

Walmart. It's in the art section and sold as magnetic picture backing material. It has a sticky side for sticking pictures to it.

thanks guys. None of the listed options are thick enough for what I was looking for. The one spot I found was McMasterCarr above but it was the same price as a stack of the NEO magnets, so i'm going to go that route with a groove in the bottom. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081TZ6CYT/?tag=atomicindus08-20

too thin and I don't think the magnetic sheet would have enough holding power to hold the sockets in. Also I wanted the 3/16"-ish so I could mechanically fasten the magnetic portion to the corian

I'll post up pics once I make one successfully. prototyped out of wood a year or two back then other priorities came around.

You are correct. The sheet magnet stuff doesn't work.

I bought some cheap magnetic socket holders that had the same stuff and they were a waste of money.

Please post your finished product...I'd be interested in the magnets you use and how they work.

Will do. It may be a couple weeks till I can play with this project, got some more important stuff to get done. I wound up ordering a batch of the Neo bar magnets linked above

I did notice McMaster has mag sheets 1/8, 3/16 & 1/4" thick with 50ft pull in force.

I did find those, but for the price I went with what I think will hold stronger. for better or worse:dunno:

What's wrong with these? The often go on sale for around $2 . If necessary, you could remove the magnet part .

I have several of these kicking around, but they don't work for this project. the corian material is only 1/2" thick and these magnets are more like 3/4, I'd have to stack 2-3 layers of Corian to be able to recess one of these in and have holes for these sockets. Definitely COULD work, but I wanted to keep the holders shorter so I don't run into drawer height issues

the HF magnets do work great, I have one laying vertical in my socket drawer holding the base of extensions against a side of the drawer so they stay put.

Is this thing on

Kitchen fridge/freeze door seals have magnets in them 5/16 wide, 3/16th thick or so. and length of doors
Go to your local recycle/dump and take the door seal magnets,
