I've been thinking about this lately and think I'll just grab a bit of rebar that is handy, bend a dogleg into it for an offset, weld on a small plate for a vertical all mounting. To make it easier to spin, maybe a piece of PVC pipe over the rod. I like the idea of having it vertical on the wall next to the door. Though really, keeping a bottle of general purpose cleaner with it would be good, so maybe a shelf above it or beside.
I think a fabrication project is on my list now. This is the sort of fun thing to make. Yes, you can buy something easier, but this would just be *fun*.
