I have a 1980's Honda riding mower that I still use at home. It's a fantastic machine but Honda is starting to phase out some of the parts. One of the clutch cables frayed out recently and there's no replacement.

Can one of you fine folks advise me on how to seek out a custom replacement? Unfortunately repairing the frayed end is not longer an option as one of the mounting studs also sheared.

Thanks!

I didn’t think to ask my motorcycle building friend for help on the cable. I just gave him the whole shredder. He is much better prepared to deal with what ails it than I am. Dang.

Atlanta Powertrain did not want to talk to me once they heard it was a lawnmower application. Fine.

Got a call in to Steinjager to see what they can do.

Would love to fix myself but the sleeve is broken too, not just the end.

Hey JZ, I've had very good service with www.cccables.com. They made some shifter control cables for my sand cars and they did an outstanding job...the cables were perfect and they were very reasonable on pricing.

Thank you! I found those guys today too and they actually called and asked for details. They're my best bet so far!

Push-pull.com in Chico CA came through for me. They were super helpful and were able to repair my original cable since it had some custom Honda parts. Reasonable pricing as well.

My friend who ran a motorcycle business for nearly 40 years used to make custom cables, I watched him many times.

The California Push-Pull Inc. looks like a good resource. I bookmarked it. From their website:

We have push & pull cables, shift controls, self-locking controls, multi-axis controls, control heads, spool valve adapters, adjustable over center-locking brake levers, accelerator controls, Unidrum lever controls, Hydraulic lever systems, and all the hardware and accessories possibly needed.

Cables for construction equipment, farm equipment, and transportation equipment. Cables for industrial necessities to consumer requests.

We are a Cablecraft assembler and stock various control cable components. We are able to build any type” size or length cable to meet your requirements. We are also a specialized custom cable house that can build any type cable or wire rope assembly to match your needs.

Our control cables are highly flexible and of heavy duty construction for long life under rugged conditions. AU end rods and support tubes are stainless steel. The components are swaged on for strength. We specialize in replacement cables too.

We specialize in custom wire rope assemblies from swaged eyes, forks, turnbuckles and ball ends. Cables can be made to your specifications from 1/16 to 1/4 wire
