If you've still got a trench waiting for concrete why not show your neighbour the work so far? Sounds like he wouldn't be missed!:lol_hitti

This is the Pumping well, already gathering water from all the rain that has been delaying us. Still looking for a reliable 220v solids pump for it.

Getting there

Regarding solid pump, i would look into the Danish firm http://www.grundfos.com/

Really coming along now DTrece. The board formed concrete looks great. Your guys can make it look good when it matters and do it efficiently when it doesn't. The sign of a smart concrete crew.

I really enjoy seeing the methods you use down there. It's actually very similar to what we're used to in a lot of ways - just different materials and form systems. Take the floors for example. It looks like your using lightweight masonry units to create a pan slab whereas we used styrofoam to do the same.

Very interesting build, with very different construction techniques. The rebar and formed work look great, more steel than most concrete bridges I've seen. Is the brickwork supposed to look less polished, as the mortar joints look rather unfinished. Are the blocks used in the floors just hanging from the pour, as the bottoms look exposed in the pics? Really like the modern design.

It is fascinating to see this come together.

This really shows what your neighbor's view is going to be.

I guess that is part of his madness, the loss of that view.

I'm using two teams, one of structural concrete and the other one takes care of the finishing. By this experience I can say that when structural guys know they will be polished by others they tend to slack and leave it too rough.

foam was an option but the engineers decided against it because we are not doing full 12" slabs. We do a 10" pour just enough to fill the rebar and then we pour a 3" lightweight mix of stone/mortar.

Your board formed walls look awesome. Let them shine!

Sides are fine but the corners are a bit rough, I never had board concrete before so I don't know if its normal or just being picky.

Here is a picture

Subscribed, thanks
You got that right. I've seen less steel used in battleships!!!!!

They should be applying expanding concrete where needed, that is why everything is still exposed, should be covered.

Yes the blocks hang from the pour, being used to brick and steel beams it was new for me :willy_nil

Re: D.TRECE - 62x36 - My first garage + house

Since nothing much has been happening lately; tiny update.

On the garage ceiling, the beams were very rough finished because my plan was to cover them with a false flat roof, but now I want to use that extra ceiling height and the beams will be finished "smoother".

D13.0205s.jpg

Also, after the 10th visit to the porcelain shops, finally found a floor that I liked and fitted my budget. 60x60cm made by Castel, they claim it will be harder than concrete in the event of something heavy falling on it.

Just have to make another trip to the shop with a piece for grout color samples.

D13.0206s.jpg

and a current shot of the front, finally resembling a house.

Building styles down there are so different than here in the states. I did concrete and masonry my whole life and this is new to me. Looking good though. What is the cost of concrete down there? We use to charge 5.50$/sqft and 6.50/sqft if we have to remove old concrete. This was about 5 years ago and im sure we werent charging enough... hence why im in a new profession now.

"pumped" concrete is around $8 per sqft if my metric to english is right

Still going, just nothing interesting to post. Doing all duct work for electric installation before plaster.

Problems with the people working on the house/absence and the holidays affected the schedule by months. Its impressive what 2 weeks of non regular work can effect in therms of deadline.

Minimal update just to show some progress after the holidays.

Garage ceiling is done with exposed beams all nice and smooth now.

By language barrier I still don't know what is the proper term to use "plaster / cement / stucco" but the raw bricks are being covered, you know... with stuff made of minerals

And all the interior cabling preparation is being done, Mind the mess of building material and **** on the floor.

My lovely "master" craft, always wears funky colors to show in the pics I guess.

"Portland cement plaster" I believe is the actual proper name, "stucco" the common name.

That is some funky conduit.

How will this house be heated and cooled? Does your climate require mechanical HVAC?

Thanks, I have seen stucco used a lot but did not know if it was the proper way.

Originally my intentions were with the usual green hard conduit but my father convinced me to use the orange pvc, its CRAZY cheap and does the job just as good as hard conduit, the only downside is the crooking on hard bends.

The zone is "colder" being near the forest and in the summer AC is just a luxury, we don't really need it but if you have it, you use it.

I'm going to use heat/cold mini splits just to be safe but I think they will be off 90% of the year.

Nice to see more updates. Looking great!

Thanks!

Wow. Just wow.

Definitely different construction methods than I'm used to up here in the Great White North, but I get it. Desert-esque terrain is a different beast on which to build, I'm sure, and lumber must be less commonly used than here in forest-land.

Many happy wishes for good projects and good times in that fantastic space!

Dtrece, I sympathize with the slow progress - it's frustrating as hell. Nevertheless, the place is looking great.

I've been at it for almost two years and you've caught up with me so you're not doing all that bad. Either that or I'm wicked slow.

Keep the updates coming.

Well it helps "a little" that snow is something unknown here :D
I had 12 people working on the house before the holidays and now I just have 4, still waiting if the rest will return or not :wtf:

More and more cement is being done, Right side of the house is 50% done.

The front stairs to the house, very modern design, just waiting on the glass for the rails :D

D13.0225s.jpg

I am getting overwhelmed by the little details that are popping out but also getting happier looking at the house taking shape, the raw brick was giving me second thoughts of the design of the house but its looking better every day.

On Neighbor news, Judge declined on our favor because their lawyer failed to introduce paperwork on time. Obviously they appealed and it went to the college for further "revision". Tomorrow is the annual neighbors meeting with the administration. I hope it doesn't get ugly, the administrator told me they are a PITA.

Sorry didn't see your reply.
Neighbor sued for "damages" to his view of the forest and privacy. True Story.

It is not going very well for him tho.

On to picture update!

Garage gets a bar, sort of.

First floor electric "panel", I overplanned it a bit. Still have to put all the lightning ducting

Moving on to the Second Floor, most of it is still being done.

Less than a month away to complete a year building the house, quite a milestone considering it was supposed to take 9 to 10 months

Cheers to all the covered in snow guys

Thanks for all the comments, hope it won't disappoint/

Walls on the second floor are almost done as are the base floors.

This is the inner patio of the 2nd bedroom, still have to do the outside of the base floor, I'm waiting on some cumaru samples and depending on price/looks we might deck it, I would have loved that kind of room when I was a kid.
D13.0236s.jpg

Now I think the second floor panel "area" is quite oversized. Mot as much going on than the first floor.
D13.0237s.jpg

3rd Bedroom, looking at the dresser. Not as big as the other room but for a girl must be big enough
D13.0238s.jpg

Still have to finish a lot of details on this side of the house but looking half decent now.
D13.0239s.jpg

This is the first time I use a false ceiling and I had a hard time thinking about using drywall vs plaster, eventually found someone that did both and he talked me into plaster for durability and flatness.
D13.0240s.jpg

D13.0241s.jpg

That is all for now, Thanks for watching

Great update. Again, a new, to me, construction technique. I have never seen a floating plaster ceiling. How is the frame for the lath fastened to the overhead? Looks like copper tubing?!
