After numerous calls to festool asking for the president of the board I finally got a hold of him and he kindly told me that festool was not for sale at the moment. Knowing that I actually did not miss a chance of owning it made the smile return to my face, we shared a couple of yo mamas jokes and hung up.

Ceiling update!

Wow this has turned around the house, I am pretty stoked about the change of look overall. I can't comment on how straight it is because I have to see it painted but for now I am happy.

D13.0581s.jpg

^ Studio/TV Room got a decorative panel on the wall that will flow with the furniture that someday when I have enough money to buy festool will be done.

D13.0583s.jpg

^ Living Room/Dining - Dining got a new under detail and will house a deco candle light or something stupid that like that. My wife loved the idea, I could not understand it.

D13.0584s.jpg

^ Kitchen - Just plaster on the level areas, final design still on the oven.

D13.0585s.jpg

^ Bedroom #2 - Indirect lightning got trendy on the whole house.

D13.0588s.jpg

^ Upstairs TV lounge - more detail, this one will have some paint or vinyl Catholic chapel style.

D13.0587s.jpg

^ New Dome Light on Sophie's room and some tumors hiding the AC unit.

D13.0593s.jpg

She is a fan, obviously she walks now... and this is the house where she would be born

D13.0586s.jpg

^ Bathrooms - The showers will have the tumorous hiding spots for the AC units but they will help lower the rain shower so water won't cool down before it hits you. hah.

D13.0589s.jpg

^ Master Bedroom - After failing to convince the wife to copycat Jordons bed this was the next best thing.

And last, the garage stairs are finally getting assembled.

D13.0594s.jpg

D13.0595s.jpg

Steps will have a walnut cover but we should be able to appreciate the underside as we go up.

Yeah she will most likely never live there and refer to the house as "the thing you don't speak about because that's what drove dad over the edge of insanity".

I really love all the details and how much thought you have put into everything. This house will be awesome when (or should I say if :D) it is finished.

I will say that it will never be finished, I always tinker around doing something, but at least I will live there. Some day.

:bounce:

ha ha ha...

looking good LCG... one thing at a time is progress.

Might as well get it done the way you want it to be, now.

thanks for the updates.

The worst hurricane ever recorded ( Patricia ) will be hitting us in about 10 minutes.

No sign of Chapo.

I don't want to talk before I should but seems like the worst hurricane ever was also the kindest. (for us at least, still have to wait for news from the coast)

I was at Puerto Vallarta for the weekend and our hotel took early measures, so we left in time for the "catastrophic" events. I was expecting horrible rain here at Guadalajara, but so far everything is really calm, it has been raining a lot but nothing out of control.

Again, still have to see what happened on the first front.
I hope the hype was bigger than the threat.

Thanks for your concern, you know I love you all too.

Wanna buy a nice vacation home in Zinapecuaro? My dad is going down Thursday to either sell it or level it.

I didn't know the existence of that place before so I googled it. Judging by the first results, even if the house is in one piece your dad should sell.

Just checking in.. glad to see progress, and the master looks nice :p

And you have to rub it on my face?

Kitchen company called yesterday and its ready to install but the house is not quite ready yet.

FINAL kitchen ceiling. Nothing impressive but for some reason gives me peace after all previous iterations.

D13.0597s.jpg

This space once felt big, now after the bases were made it shrunk a lot.

D13.0598s.jpg

Big updates incoming, well not big, but actually something happening.
I just signed off the last pesos of my budget on everything I could afford before/to move in.

Thanks W!

Something happening update:

- Kitchen is arriving steadily, makes the wife really happy.

D13.0600s.jpg

Interior will be black / exterior will be walnut with some black glass touches and a lot of black granite. Wife was running from box to box trying to understand what was what and I quickly told her to just wait till it was installed. As soon as she went upstairs I ran from box to box trying to understand what was what.

- Main stairs got a layer of bondo/primer to reduce the piping welds haha.

D13.0599s.jpg

The big 3x3 square structure was a quick design fix to use the space as a table/bench since the window to the patio will be fixed now. We had the intention to run a one piece glass but only one factory in Mexico is able to make it and its too far away, shipping and handling got prohibitive and I can't have that luxury now.

- Bathrooms are getting flamed granite floors.

D13.0601s.jpg

If you follow this thread you may remember I had black tiling before because I intended to deck the bathrooms. Contractor made some points against it that my wife paranoid about - like kids peeing on it and getting nasty mold under, etc., yet the master bathroom still gets wood based on my stubbornness.

- Master bathroom Dome.

D13.0602s.jpg

God said, "let there be light". The cave just got 300% brighter, I am a very grey and emotionless human but what a difference. Almost made me smile. Almost.

- Garage Stairs

D13.0604s.jpg

D13.0605s.jpg

FINALLY!, and I mean it. Finally my horrible welding guy took the time to finish this stair, I ran up and down a couple of times and it is SOLID, needs a guardrail thought, ultra scary right now, feels like you are running to a void, especially when going down.

- Outside decorative plates part 1

D13.0606s.jpg

What do you do when your budget is running out and you need to move in?

Well of course you take part of that silly amount of pesos and use them for silly stuff!

This is one of 4 decorative steel... things? that will "enhance" the look of the house.

I still don't know if I am proud of them but after the granite wall fiasco anything is possible.

Until next time

How are things going with the neighbor behind you that was up in arms early in the thread?
Any new developments?

This thread is always a pleasure to re-visit. While the modern look is definitely not my style, I can appreciate all the design cues. It's cool to see the little (or big) changes you've incorporated along the way.

He lost the case and appealed two times, lost another two times.
I smile and wave like a toddler on the rear window of a car screaming at a person wearing a Winnie pooh costume when I see him. He seems to enjoy it.

Always nice to receive comments from people that don't particularly agree with your taste but respect it and appreciate it.

I'm kinda waiting till you find out that the foundation needs to be repoured and you decide to start all over again. I'm guessing you'll have a long list of people who you would like to take part of your new foundation. :)

It's nice to see progress again. Keep it up!

Damn I want a tile wall, I will go back and read. I hope the problem is the granite (material used) not the tile (form factor)

Its more like Ghost Granite because it will hunt you even in your sleep.

Ahhh that drama, good times ah?

Haha! you must have a guess of how many times I have thought about it

Don't be afraid of it, mistakes were made on my install, this is a crude and sarcastic example of what happened:

1. I bought a very porous type of stone, polished on one side.
2. Flash rains happened while installing it.
3. Granite acting like a sponge sucked water and created large "discoloration" like areas.
4. This was just trapped water inside the stone that could not get out because the polished side is less porous.
5. Not knowing that I thought that the water was going in from the polished side to the wall.
6. Bought the most expensive sealer ever and applied it.
7. Sealer turned like a thick tar that made the granite look nasty, like when you wash a car with dirty rags.
8. Cried for days
9. Bought liters and liters of solvent to remove the sealer, days passed doing this.
10. Cried a few more days.
11. After that the granite looked horrible, there was not enough solvent nor elbow grease effort to remove that thick tar.
12. I took the yellow book, yep that still exists. Called everyone.
13. A guy finally accepts the job and grind the wall with 600/800 grit
14. This removes the tar but leaves 4" grinding disc paths all over the place.
15. More crying occurs.
16. I call it a Fail and live with it.

Granite is such a *****, the wall was a mess, but it pays off at certain hours of the day.

Direct sunlight and you can see every flaw it has ( I am VERY picky about it. My wife can't see anything I tell her about it )

But in the evening its just majestic, like a giant mirror.

But the thing here is.

1. Use the correct stone, sometimes the things you like won't work where you want to put them.
2. Your installer MUST know the stone and its reactions to the elements.
3. DO NOT trust anyone. I followed advice from the seller and made those mistakes.
4. Use ceramic.

Kitchen halfway, new back from the stoneage bathroom tiles, more steel nonsense and potato pictures here on this new episode of " OH THE DRAMA HOUSE "...

//applause

Thank you! Thank you!....

First of all I want to emphasize on how fortunate we are in this time, we have toilets that clean our ***, robots that will walk our pets, etc. Pretty amazing stuff, even cellphones now have cameras with more megapixels than some professional equipment.

Yet at this very time, my buddy and fabricator Mr Hollyshiet managed to take a picture of the prototypes for the water mixers with a POTATO!

Don't believe it?. here it is

D13.0607s.jpg

Amazing! //applause

Now, last time I posted a picture of a bunch of black boxes on the kitchen.

This time I will post various pictures of black boxes assembled on the wall.

D13.0611s.jpg

I have never been a believer of the premade kitchen stuff, always thought that real wood has its place for longevity.

D13.0608s.jpg

But watching, or not watching in this case go from a bunch of black boxes to a 80% done kitchen in one week is quite an achievement.

D13.0609s.jpg

I asked for complete patterns but I guess it was too much, at this point I'm just happy I have a kitchen and will live with that just fine.

D13.0610s.jpg

Black insides, gray drawers, black counter top. If I was daltonic I would feel so un-especial right now.

//silence for extra bad joke.
* Realizes how bad it was so its time to change the subject.

Anyway...

Our ancestors lived in caves, so I opted to homage that and use some extreme dangerous stone that would give brain cancer if you touched it, this raised some concerns by some fellow journalers, as common sense prevailed and technology caught up with porcelain of this age, master bathroom got a revamp.

D13.0613s.jpg

//applause

Glad you like it, yes it is just as dangerous as before, but this time is white, if you bleed you will notice immediately, unless you get knocked out of course.

//silence
Tuff crowd.

Sooooo....

House steel armor (yep that's the new name of the plates)

Front one is done

*Here is a picture of it, but then it wasn't because I didn't take one.

Upper window begins

D13.0614s.jpg

Opted to make this change because the previous window was too large and would be dangerous when open (for kids on the sofa).

D13.0612s.jpg

This plate will make the window smaller and projected instead of side to side.

That is it for this episode, hope you liked it and see you on the next one!

Goodnight and Goodbye!

//few applause
*half crowd left mid episode.
