Wow! Obviously you weathered the storm well. Great looking updates and it's good to see things finally coming together. Are there remaining hoops to jump through to get a certificate of occupancy? Thanks for sharing. It still looks great in spite of all the necessary changes!
It would have to be chemically rusted and then sealed because it would be quite a mess if it rains
There is one last certificate to go, but they just check if you have a place to cook, light bulbs and a front door. True Story.
If you leave a rebar sticking out at the top, will you be able to call it "unfinished" and avoid paying property tax?

You can avoid paying the added construction tax but as soon as you call the "habitation certificate" you will get evaluated for new property value.
The rebar thing is more a "I will and another floor later" / "I'm too lazy to cut the extra stock". Depending on the economic level of the place you were visiting I could give you a better answer

On lower economic neighborhoods its pretty common to see people living on unfinished houses, the beauty of brick construction is that you can add more and more if you keep it raw and founding allows.

Finally pulled out the floating floor after almost 2 years of storage
and the fake woodz on the master bathroom is done
Contractor suggested a granite "finisher" on the jambs to hide the porcelain ends on the walls. Neat stuff, it has a bevel that was too hard to photograph.
I tend to get nervous while a lot of people watch me take photos so I just quick snap.
Electric panels finally arrived, we wanted 52 slot cases but no one had them in stock and ordering them would take 8 weeks!
So we got 1 52 slot and the rest are 24s... it will be a tight fit.
The front door, God I love it... Its such a monster, mind you that when you come visit I will open you the garage door so you can park in your rental but I would take you to open it just to show it to you...
It took two attempts and finally its here on its bones.
Side upper window is done and looks fabulous, made the house on the side.
added a bit of character. Just imagine all that scaffolding is invisible.
And the front armor, showing battle scars, or some bad aging from youth acne.
I sent a picture to the contractor over sms and told him exactly that.. he just replied - Veeergaaassss.
I challenge you to try to translate that in what he really meant

I looked it up just as E12, I would have probably said well PI$$ ON MY POPSICLE, or something similar. Otherwise it is turning out great and although I've never been too close to a modern home I really like them and this one is one of the best I've ever seen. Really curious on how the front door turns out.

We won't be falling out of the stairs, the house grows a tumor and more!
Do you remember when I said that going up and down the garage stairs felt like falling to a void? Of course you don't because you just see pictures and don't read all this bunch of letters pawabonga.
We have guardrail, more like handrail now but still deciding if doing wire or glass inserts on them. Any suggestions?
We also have to think a way to close the other side of the stair, I would just leave it open but I don't trust little kids.
Water pressure supply installations began, I arrived and went straight there, the thing was awful, a total mess of green tubes. Worse than Mario labyrinths.
I had a talk with the guy and asked to redo it like he was doing some kind of abstract art piece, after cringing with only one eye (anime style) he laughs and agrees.
This is what he made afterwards. This guy must be a very good plumber because as an abstract artist he will die of starvation.
Now after all the neighbor issues and sniper school warnings, we had the idea to insert cancer to the house on Sophie's room.
This will server 3 purposes.
First and most important - Privacy
Second - Safety, a piece of glass was not a very good idea. I get now that I have a daughter and possibly another on the way. Possibly.
Third - Stupid storage for Mom. ( Don't tell me your mom did not store the Christmas tree on your room or half of the coats she bought and never used. liar )
We achieved glass on the main stairs. Sad because it is not one piece, happy because it was a lot cheaper. ( See Bob this time I didn't use USD for you )
Ventless Fireplace as educated by Jordon.
This is something that was not going to be done because obvious cost cuts but the contractor felt guilty for inserting his closed hand on my pooping orifice or so I guess because he told me to pay him whenever I could. He also wants my 740i so that could be a two sided knife.
Well it doesn't make much sense now but the lower part will be covered in wood and the top will be the same granite as the kitchen.
And lastly...

It is wise not to trust little children. My children are elderly and I have trouble remembering my own childhood but I vaguely recall several occasions with my brother that involved garrotes (some intentional and some accidental). Lining the staircase that leads to the black hole with wires is giving me flashbacks to those days.
The black hole would benefit from as much ambient light as possible and glass might might reduce the chance of neck wounds. Using glass should also be a better financial option. Actually, it should be a free option considering how much your glass vendor has already freed from your daughters' education funds.
I resent the implication that my mother would store the Christmas tree or her coats in my room. My cell was on the second floor and was not so easily accessed, my father keeping the key in his whip safe.
Would it be possible to give the fireplace to your contractor and just have him install the 740i in that spot? Simply setting fire to the interior of tyhe car might be a less expensive alternative in the long run.
Your journey could pay dividends in the future. In the event you are ever kidnapped, nothing your captors do to you will break you after this experience.
I wish you the best for the coming year -- my imagination is too shallow to think how it could go worse than the recent ones.... Just wallow in the joy your Sophie spreads.

New year update.
We have achieved floors!
Hardwood floors are such a rare thing here, our ambient temps change by hour the same day that it is such a luxury to maintain them properly. I opted for floating parquet, whatever that means. True is that its just a type of engineered wood that isn't glued or nailed. 4mm of noble wood / HDF core / another 4mm of pine on top of a thin foam carpet. Supposed to resist expansion/contraction a lot better than full wood. Please be true.
- Someone really does not want that window to be touched.

One of the largest windows fell off and turned into swarovski diamonds. I laugh because thank God I don't have to pay it. No I am not a *****, I was concerned for the people doing the work but they said they would replace it right away so I guess they are earning enough money to take care of it.
Kitchen is getting there, every time I visit I like it more, or my standards are getting lower because I just want to move already.
Electricians are doing the finishing touches so painters can also finish, This is the Luis XV chandelier we will run for our fancy dining nights.
Door to the rear patio is up, super tall and super transparent, I will apply some textured transparent vinyl to it because I don't want my sniper neighbor playing red dot on our kitchen.
And now a sentimental moment.
When I designed bathroom furniture I had an idea on my mind, that idea turned into renders and then someone did the engineering and made the furniture with like real wood and real tools.
While I like them I don't feel complete because that is not what I imagined and I don't know how to feel about it. I should call my psychologist.
And last, the ventless fireplace is taking way. In black granite because defy the all white contemporary standard. I'm such a rebel.
And BOB, I actually had a chat with the contractor about the 740i inspired fireplace and did some renderings.
I liked it but my wife was not very impressed by the idea or my Photoshop skills at all.

I also like the BMW fireplace and your rendering is outstanding. Then again, I think you have to remember the old saying "Happy wife or sleep with knife" or something like that.

It appears the previous setbacks are behind you. Do you have an actual move in date in mind now?
Money was a setback, I was holding on a certain amount that I did not want to spend. As soon as I let go of that "hold", things got moving faster than ever haha.
We are doing everything possible to move in this month, maybe the house will not be 100% finished but I will get the certificate of occupancy and we will finish while living there.
As money went short and I still had much way to go, I looked at inventory and decided to sell some.
I sold many things but there are 2 true "heroes". This is their story.

I was fond of this truck, it was not flashy but didn't look common. It looked like it came like that from the factory. People always gave me thumbs up on the street and the interior smelled like virgins from leatherland.
However, after my daughter came to our world this truck became useless, so it was "easy" to let it go.
This was a while ago and those extra funds ran out fairly quickly

I did not sell it because of the house, all the funds from the sale of this car were hung to be dumped entirely to the porsche. As things got progressing on the house it was fairly clear that I was not going to make it again without another bump to the budget, so, porsche budget became house budget.
Right now I'm running on the fumes of camaro money. I really don't want to sell anything else
I do have a christmas tree for sale if anyone is interested. I'm not storing that thing back.

Yesterday we finished a dummy for the bathrooms mixers, don't judge too hard, the plate was made in alu instead of stainless and it doesn't have all the bevels, plus machining was very rough.
Mixers are the correct material and weight (a lot), still need the register and beveling, finishing.
By touching them I think I will have to clear coat them because they get more fingerprints than the NSA.
