Well I had taken a sabbatical from posting for a while on The Garage Journal and I have a bunch of pictures and projects to get posted up here...

I also had to deal with the whole Photbucket fiasco and find a new photo hosting web site, I can't believe they would try and charge you $399.99 to host third party links to your pictures?

Well I had a chance earlier this year to go down to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Fuel Day, the company I work for is also part of another company that provides fiber connections to the Andretti race shop in Indianapolis and with connectivity for the race team while at the track during the month of May.

They invited us down to the Andretti suite for lunch, drinks and all access garage passes to Marco Andretti's pit garage, The blue and white United Fiber and Data car is Marco's...

It was a really cool experience to get to go inside the garages and see things close up. Here's some pictures I took during the day...

Yeah that's me trying to steal Marco's car...I couldn't find the key?

Nice shots of the indy pits. Congrats on making the trip.
In my past life I had 6 tickets to the Indy 500 every year from 1992 - 1999. They included pit passes (Great fun)
My good friend has owned 12 tickets, and has since 1962. He would sell me 6 of them each year until I sold the business.
I sat right above those bricks you showed, all the way to the top (the padock)
right next to the the flagman.

Thanks for subscribing! Hopefully I can find enough stuff to keep this thread interesting :)

Looks like a great day!
I thought you never had to change those Honda engines though.......

BuffettFan

It was a pretty slick operation watching them change that engine out, after removing the cowl and unhooking the pluming, there was like six nuts on the gear box and then was removed, then another six bolts or so for the engine? Then the engine was ready to come out...not as easy as I made it sound  but it went pretty fast....I did watch one of the mechanics drop one of the radiators onto the floor :willy_nil

Wow thanks for the compliments...I really enjoy hunting and collecting the vintage petroliana and vintage industrial looking items, I do have to be careful though DaBarn is only 30' x 40' :lol_hitti

Living in Indiana I have been to a few races and a few of the time trials in the past, but this was the first time I was inside one of the garages and I was aloud to rome up and down pit road and stroll threw gasoline ally, gives you a whole different perspective of the place

Nice time at Indy!

Very cool and thanks for sharing

sublime68charger

Thanks for the visit! I enjoyed catching up on your thread the other day...Just had a great day at Indy. I have always been a big fan and never miss a race on TV...In fact it has become somewhat of a tradition in Dabarn on memorial day....any excuse to throw a party and drink beer with my friends :bounce:

Thanks for sharing those Indy pics, great stuff :thumbup::thumbup:

Sunbimmer

Thanks for the visit to DaBarn...I was talking to one of the pit crew members at Indy and I was asking him questions about the paint job on their car and he was saying that its just carbon fiber wrapped in vinyl...I thought that was interesting....stretch wrap at 220 MPH :)

As you know I'm a life long Chicago Bears football fan...I have been ranting on about Jay Cutler for the last eight years, I got to be brutally honest here! He has just been horrible! I can't for the life of me figure out what Chicago ever seen in him?

Now on the bright side and trying not to get my hopes up to high to early and I know that last night was just the first Chicago Bears preseason game of the year. But I was extremely impressed with Mitch Trubisky and the running backs performance...

The Chicago Bears defensive secondary didn't look so good :headscrat

Can the Chicago Bears fans turn the page and move on now? It has to be better then last years 3-13, 2016 season and 6-10, 2015 season...Can't it?

Indy trip looks like a cool way to spend the day.
Hey we'll send you Tony Romo.

Oh hell no! Romo can stay away from Chicago  I'm hoping Trubisky works out and Chicago tags him as a franchise QB and DaBears can get past the Quaterback controversy that has haunted them since the mid 80's :eyecrazy:

I missed the game but caught the highlights. The kid did a good job but don't forget it was against the second and third team defense. I have high hopes for the Mitch. I see why the Bears made moves to get him.

I've been a Cutler supporter from the start. He has great talent but poor decision making skills. The changes he had to deal with during his tenure here is staggering... I think they waaay overpaid for him with his $126 million contract... I really hope he does good in Miami. Maybe that will help shift some of the blame from him. He got a raw deal in Chicago... much of it undeserved.

I picked up this really nice gas price sign this year, it was in pretty good condition for its age and considering it probably spent most of its life outside. I was really worried about how large it was with the base attached, as floor space in DaBarn is at a premium. I thought the price was right so I went a head and bought it :)

After thinking about the size of it for a while I came up with the idea of just hanging it up on the wall, I still have plenty of blank wall space available

I removed the sign from its base, then broke it down to be able to store it above my attached garage where I have a small plywood area for storing ****! Sorry I mean stuff...I want to keep the base with the sign in case I ever want to use it or sell it in the future...

I removed all the numbers from the sign and then retapped all the threads, I then handed rubbed the entire sign down on both sides with automotive cleaner wax. I even got a large stack of the original numbers to go along with the sign, all the two's and five's looked liked they had never been used so I decided to go with 22 cent and 25 cent pricing? And I had enough for both sides...

I then fabbed up two little "L" shaped brackets and painted them black and mounted her up on the wall. Its surprising how heavy it was

Cutlers only problem is color blindness, if they only made glasses that allowed you to differentiate between the different uniforms, I am sure he would be ok. Actually surprised he never threw the ball to the refs.

dont get worried about the Defense, the first stringers looked pretty good. The late came stuff was due to borderline roster players.

polexican23

Yeah I agree with you! I was really excited on what I saw in the game, hopefully the team can build on it....And I hope Fox makes all the right decisions this season...

Got invited to go to the lake for the day at Cody's house for BBQ, paddle boarding and relaxation...It seems to be somehow therapeutic being at the lake for me and we had fun with Biscuit too (My granddaughter's dog)...

I picked up two old lights and wanted to hang them over the pub table in DaBarn, so I came up with the idea of using a old yoke to mount them.

I see your thread is reaching new heights. Did the pilot wave?

Good one Shorty  I could actually see the pilot as he flew over the house and all I could think was I bet that guy loves his job

That and I wonder how much life insurance his wife had on him?
