Fantastic job on the Sinclair display, Tony!

How long did it take you to empty those bottles?

Scott,

Not as long as you would think! I have several extra empty bottles lying around waiting for the next drunk idea to hit me :drink:

The Sinclair display is cool!

Jon,

Thanks, I really like the Sinclair display and it was a fun little project

Sweet bottles and great repurposing job!!

Homebody,

I seem to look at everything and think what can I build from this, my mind works in mysterious ways 🤔

OK Tony, when I get my gas pump together can I get you to do my graphics! Those are perfect buddy, great job.

Jim,

I can cut stencils or vinyl letters, I just can't print the decals.

07-X4.jpg

I had some time this week to clear coat a couple of projects, two small oilers that I had sitting around for a while now, two small c-clamps that I painted for a sign I'm making, I will try to get some pics up of it soon and then two large cans that I painted the tops gold on and cleared them for a secret project that I can't reveal just yet 🤔

08-X4.jpg

09-X4.jpg

I put some decals on the small oilers to dress them up, I couldn't find a decal small enough for the little oiler so I bought some N scale model train decals for the Texaco can

I remember those days.
That great Midwest growing season!

Jim

Yeah! the grass is growing like mad, but I do enjoy mowing, its cheaper then therapy 🤪

Maybe you meant to say, "the next me to idea drunk?"

Zanyad

That's what I said 🍻

looks like a lot of open country around you tony. Grass is sure green!!
I still like all those pretty cans

Don

Yeah, I have lived in the northeast corner of Indiana all my life, I do enjoy the changing of the seasons here and seeing the corn and bean fields grow.

I really do enjoy working on those small little projects, I don't seem to have the energy or time for the big ones 😩

01-X4.jpg

I always liked the old saying "YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH CLAMPS", so I decided to make a new sign, I started out with a left over piece of 1/2" sanded plywood from my kitchen pantry rebuild.

02-X4.jpg

I started with a black base.

03-X3.png

04-X3.jpg

I created a stencil and cut it on my vinyl cutter.

05-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

Added some white paint.

07-X4.jpg

08-X4.jpg

09-X4.jpg

My wife thought I needed to add some real clamps to the sign, so I dug out these little old c-clamps, then I sanded them down, smoothed them out with some body filler and put some red paint and clear coat on to dress them up a bit

10-X4.jpg

11-X4.jpg

Now I need to find a place in DaBarn to hang it :thumbup:

Make sure you don’t hang it so high in DaBarn that you can’t access those clamps, cause…….

fullthrottle

I took your advice and kept the new sign within reach :ROFLMAO:

01-X4.jpg

Over the past few months I have eliminated three tool boxes in DaBarn and some unused tools and doubles, then I down sized all my hand tools into one 72" US General tool box, then I purchased two new Husky 30" cabinets from Home Depot, I used one to organize all my power tools and the other one to organize all my sandpaper, grinding wheels and some other supplies, I'm really liking the new setup

02-X4.jpg

I added a US General magnetic power strip to charge all my batteries inside the cabinet

03-X4.jpg

I added some pegboard hooks to the doors to hang rolls of tape.

I also hit a milestone on my house renovation recently, I installed the last piece of flooring, what a great feeling 😄

20230605_171719-X4.jpg

20230606_173928-X4.jpg

We got the whole house painted, all new flooring, new light fixtures, electrical outlets, light switches, toilets and a new pantry, I just have a bunch of trim left to complete now 😅

01-X4.jpg

I recycled some more left over plywood and bottles to make a couple of old looking oil bottle displays

02-X4.jpg

I glued and used some brad nails to assemble the boxes.

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

I decided to use some dark walnut stain on this box.

05-X3.png

I created a vinyl stencil on my vinyl cutter.

06-X4.jpg

I put on the stencil and added some stripes.

07-X4.jpg

Got it all painted and added the decals to the bottles and some #10 corks.

08-X4.jpg

While I was on a roll, I decided to make another one.

01-X3.png

02-X3.jpg

03-X3.jpg

Started out with some white paint for the lettering and the logo's.

04-X3.jpg

05-X4.jpg

I added some black to create a couple stripes.

06-X4.jpg

I finished it off with some red

About time we find you out in DaBarn again. Glad the house project is coming to a close. I'm partial to those Pennzoil projects
Nice and creative work there buddy

Don,

Thanks for the visit! I'm always visiting The Big Party Garage for inspiration, it is exciting to see your phone booth coming together

I'm kind of embarrassed to post this one, I used my shop vac the whole time that I was replacing my floor, I knew I was losing some suction, when I finished the floor I tore the shop vac apart and cleaned it up and added a new filter, it actual looks new again. o_O :ROFLMAO:

She has some really good suction now 😅

Jay,

Yeah, I about crapped when I pulled the top off and saw the filter, there was a lot of dirt and drywall dust in there, I scrubbed the whole shop vac down and put a new filter in, the thing looks brand new, I love my Ridgid shop vac

Tony,
Those displays look great!

Jon,

Thanks, I really enjoy those small projects and I don't have much money in them either. How did your trip go? the Solstice trailer looks awesome, I bet you got a lot of looks pulling it down the road :thumbup:

Well, I'm not going to be able to make it to The Big Party Garage Birthday Bash 2023, so I decided to make Don an early birthday present. HAPPY 75th BIRTHDAY DON! 🎂

I hope you post plenty of pictures of the event

01-X3.png

I put this together in CorelDraw.

02-X3.png

I did a quart size and a gallon size

03-X4.jpg

Then, I had my buddy that owns a local sign shop print these out on some really nice 3M vinyl

04-X4.jpg

And you know me I repurposed some used lacquer thinner cans

05-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

Then I put together a gallon size too :)

07-X4.jpg

I painted the tops gold, now Don has the only known set of gold edition BPG oil cans left to exist in the world :ROFLMAO:

08-X4.jpg

09-X4.jpg

The finished product 🎂🎂🎂

10-X2.jpg

Happy Birthday Don! hope you guys have a great Big Party Garage Birthday Bash 🎂

They look amazing

BF, really nice idea for those cans and well executed! You should open an eBay store, "Tony's Custom Cans"! :lol_hitti

I couldn't be happier Tony!!! Thank you.
I'm looking for just the right spot in the BPG for them and I'll post when they land

Thanks for the compliments on the BPG Oil cans, I have a one quart can for myself and I'm waiting to empty another gallon can, so I have a set of BPG Oil cans in DaBarn too

Not much happening in DaBarn, I did have a five day weekend off from work over the fourth, we had a storm roll through with 60 mph winds and it rained sideways at my house, the area lost quite a few trees, but I didn't have any damage

01-X4.jpg

The storm front rolling in over DaBarn o_O

02-X4.jpg

Those trees out back were blowing around pretty good

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

I fired up the smoker and made a big slab of fall of the bone ribs and some smoked beans for the 4th 😋

In case you were wondering about the rib recipe, I follow Malcom Reed on his YouTube channel called "How To BBQ Right" I love this guy :thumbup:

07-X4.jpg

I had to keep up on my yard work!

I put Milwaukee string on my DeWalt weed trimmer, I feel like I violated a man code somehow

Milwalt or Dewaukee

08-X4.jpg

My OH **** MOMENT!!!

I finished my Flying A sign a long time ago and I never hung it up, it just sat on the barn floor ever since, well I bumped into it knocking it over, it landed on some steel I had laying there from another project and put two dents in it, so over the long weekend I ground the dents down filled them in and smoothed it out, then repainted the whole thing

09-X4.jpg

The paint job on the Flying A sign in the picture doesn't look to bad, but up close it came out a little rough, I used my old Devilbiss HVLP gun, it seems to be spitting out paint instead of spraying it, I keep it clean and the paint was thinned, I will probably keep the Devilbiss for primer, but it never has been a great spray gun. it is a low end model.

My wife had some running to do today so while I was out I purchased the Black Widow HVLP gun from Harbor Freight for $180.00 plus tax, they have a restocking fee for opened box returns on this item so I have yet to cut the seal on the box, I don't know if its worth trying? I have heard some good things about it, but I'm also thinking about returning it and buying a nicer gun? Any comments, suggestions or advice is welcome.

Tony, the issue I have had with Harbor Freight tools is support. At that price, that HVLP gun is a good deal but if you need a part for it in a few years it could end up being wall art. I have had good luck with Iwata guns but I got them on sale years ago . I have an LPH400 I paid in the $300 range and an LPH80 for $159 on eBay. I prefer a smaller gun for things like bumper covers and the LPH80 is perfect. Here's a weight comparison:
Iwata LPH-400.jpg

Iwata LPH-80.jpg
I use the Devilbiss DeKups system so both guns have those adapters. The adapter for the LPH80 was very expensive so I put an adapter on that the DeKups adapter would screw into.

I also bought an abused SATAJet 2000 for $100 that took a lot of time to clean up and get working right. Required about $35 worth of parts as well but it works great. The SATA is heavier than either of the Iwata guns but pushes out a lot more paint.
Sata Jet 2000.jpg
Bottom line, I would recommend the Iwata LPH80 for the kind of detail work you do. And remember, those weights are without a cup full of paint on top.

Mine are the Sata guns and I like them alot. I can get a nice finish using a 1.4 nozzle. A $100.00 price is a steal on a sata jet. Mine were 10 times that price each

Bob & Don,

Thanks for the advice, I kind of feel I need to return the Black Widow and go with something a lot nicer, I know I will be happy with a Sata or Iwata, I just have to get over the sticker shock o_O

Don, Iwata guns are like a Lexus and Sata guns are like a Rolls Royce. It's hard to show what a $100 Sata looks like but soaking in wash grade lacquer thinner didn't even faze the mess inside. It appears the previous owner left epoxy primer in the gun without ever attempting to clean it.

I'm no chemist but eventually i found stuff that worked.

I almost did that to one of my guns. I was spraying some primer on something and gave it the first coat and was going to give it the second coat in about 15 minutes but
I got side tracked while waiting that 15 minutes. I started working on something else and forgot about the piece in the booth and about 2 hours later I remembered that I still had primer in my gun. After a long period of soaking and scrubbing and soaking and scrubbing I managed to save that gun

While working today I visited a carriage maker in Shipshewana Indiana, the guy has been making carriages in the same spot for over 30 years, he's made wagons for Budweiser, carriages for Disney and New York's Central Park, he's so busy he turns work away. He had restored one of Anheuser Busch's Clydesdale wagons and had a couple of boxes of these faux beer crate fronts that came off the old wagon, well I talked him into selling me one. :)

02-X4.jpg

I washed it.

03-X4.jpg

Then I rubbed it with a coat of Minwax to shine it up and protect it, it does have some of the poly peeling off, but other than that it is in great shape, I will need to find a place in DaBarn to hang it now

I once saw a pedestal grinder stand made from an old brake drum, I thought it would be cool to make my own, while at one of my customers, Reeds Farm Transport I saw these used semi brake drums laying on his scrap pile, at first I just wanted two and I asked how much? he replied with "how about a case of beer" 🍻 I jumped at the deal, after getting them home and thinking about it for a while, I went back and traded a second case of beer for two more :D

02-X4.jpg

03-X4.jpg

I started out by sandblasting and painting them black, they turned out really nice! I thought they would of been full of pits, but they were in good shape. I brought the bathroom scale out to weigh one, it came in at 99 lbs.

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

I went to the local farm store and picked up some rubber mat for them to rest on

06-X4.jpg

I picked up some 1/4" thick flat steel and started on the bases, I didn't have any Dykem layout ink so I just used some yellow rattle can paint. I made the base 13" in diameter.

07-X4.jpg

08-X4.jpg

09-X4.jpg

I don't have a plasma cutter, I did try my oxyacetylene torch but that just made a big mess, so I was just left with a jig saw to cut a **** ton of 1/4" plate. I picked up a five pack of Diablo carbide blades, they started cutting good but quickly petered out and just burnt up, after going through the five pack, I went back to the store and picked up a five pack of Milwaukee blades and they cut a lot better, I finished cutting the four plates and I only used two of the Milwaukee blades.

I used a 3M 40 grit flap disk to grind the edges back to my marks, these 3M flap discs worked awesome

10-X4.jpg

I had to do some real cyphering to figure out my bolt hole layout pattern  :ROFLMAO:

11-X4.jpg

I just drilled two holes then bolted the plate up through the bottom so I could see if my bolt holes were correct.

12-X4.jpg

13-X4.jpg

14-X4.jpg

I finished drilling the rest of the ten holes and test fit the first plate before drilling the other three plates.

15-X4.jpg

I have all four base plates cut, drilled, ground and sanded, that took up most of my weekend, I'm now tired 😩

"That's all I have to say about that" :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like a plasma cutter is on the Christmas list.

I have my vise on a drum like that. Wish I’d given it the Dabarn treatment.

Shorty,

My thoughts exactly, after spending so much time and frustration cutting all that 1/4" inch plate with a damn jig saw, I do believe I can justify that plasma cutter now  :D

Can you say new toy, um I mean new tool :ROFLMAO:

Any suggestions on a good plasma cutter, not too high end, I just run an amateur hobby shop here and I don't have a bottomless bank account

I got 2 semi wheel drums that I've been holding on to for several years now. Maybe this will get me off my tail and get the vise stand made!

Well, at least it will make me feel guilty and I'll write the project on the board.

Curious to see what plasma cutter you come up with for your shop. I've thought about one of those harbor freight units. I've heard good things about them and like you said, we are just hobby shops so it's hard to justify the cost for a high end unit.

BF,

I made a similar stand a few years ago, but on mine I just welded a flat plate on where you are bolting one on. Why did you choose to go the bolt-on route? As always, very nice work - particularly lining up all those holes.

Jeff, surely you know by now that Tony prefers the path of increased complexity? He turd polished four brake drums, now he's probably down at the local truck stop buying chrome lug nuts...

I haven't really researched plasma cutters yet, it would be sweet to have one in DaBarn, I will post it, if I ever get one? Post some picks of your pedestal if you start working on it

I just thought it would look so much cooler then just welding the base plate onto the drum and it would be fun to spend $40.70 on bolts nuts and washers

Here is what appears to be a cost competitive plasma cutter. I have several hundred feet of 1/4" plate to cut in my near future, so naturally I'm trying to get other people to buy what I'm eyeing before I do. You know, for early review :p.
