Got the overhead door installed, It was the first thing on the build that I hired out. I had Topeka Overhead Door take care of it! I got a really good door that is well insulated and installed for about the same price that I could purchase one for at a big box store, The best part was I came home from work and it was done :) I thought when I ordered the door it would of been a darker brown, oh well I can always paint it at a later date...Maybe it will grow on me. Now I can keep the birds out of there :)

I hand dug the electrical line in, it wasn't to bad only had to go about 30', got the conduit ran and glued and back filled. I did find my telephone cable when I was digging :scared: I went to a local cement company and picked up a 2'x2' block to put down in front of the service door, the ground was really soft...

Got a old friend that does seamless gutters, he came out and in about 3 hours he had the gutters on and the down spouts installed at a really good price (friends discount and no tax). I picked up some down spout extensions from Menards, these are really nice, the length is adjustable, you can rotate them in any direction and they flip up when you need to mow or trim around them. The color was a perfect match too :)

Here's a shot of the back. Got a Winegard TV antenna mounted for the local TV stations. I picked up a 120 gallon refurbished propane tank locally, the one for my house is to far away to run copper over to it and regulations allow me to put the 120 gallon tank right up against the back of the barn so there's no copper to bury. I also picked up a cement pad to place it on...

Looks great. Same colors I used on mine. Painted my garage door to match wainscoting. You would be surpiised how much better it looks.

Great looking barn! Certainly a lot of potential with that kind of square footage. Curious, how long will a tank that size (120 gallons) last, heating that amount of space, at a modest temperature?

Thanks for checking in! I would be lying if I told you the color of that door didn't bother me, but for now its on the back burner...

Thanks for taking the time to follow along, I will be honest I have no idea how long the tank will last. I have ran it a little already, but without the ceiling finished and insulated I will not know how long it will last :headscrat

Oh your posting after the fact and it's all done?

Congrats I will be following along with this one!

Here I thought this was current and gonna give you props for a mid winter build!

Still very nice work for a Bears fan!
From a cheese head!

Yep temps only in single digits at my house today!

Yeah, he had me fooled for a second. I thought maybe he started that a week or two ago! I live in central Illinois... Friday was beautiful here (well, as beautiful as it can be in the winter). It was about 50 degrees, dry, no snow piles anywhere, and no wind. The Saturday, the temps plummeted, the rain turned to ice, and then the snow. Now... it looks completely miserable and it's about six degrees, and thirty mile an hour winds.

I'm anxious to see more pics and hear more of the build story, though!

When I first started here I didn't know squat about pole barn construction. As a SoCal born and raised child of the Great Generation who became the only tradesman/contractor in the entire family, I didn't run into this type of build anywhere I (emphasize "I") went. What a great way to build an outbuilding. And this one looks particularly good.

If I put that on my city lot I'd have to buy the neighbor's house and tear it down.

Making good progress on dabarn!

Is this right next to your house?

I would have been itchin that first winter to just have the framing up but no roof on it!
Though the cold temps would have kept me indoors as well!
From my build the first pic was how mine stood for the first winter!

Thanks for checking out DaBarn! Pole buildings have always been real popular in this area in fact a lot of people are building large ones around here and adding living quarters in them. Your house and shop all in one :) I would love to have one someday...

Got a good shot of the barn on a sunny day :) I only have a few things that i would like to get done outside yet, I need to pour a small cement approach in front of the overhead door, I think I want to darken the color of that overhead door too and I want to dig out 2' foot all the way around the barn and add some landscaping stones to it...Notice my Alfalfa field in the background...

Sublime68charger was asking how the barn sat in relationship to my house, so I dug up some summertime pictures that I took around the house last summer...The first shot is of the front, with me standing in the neighbors yard :)

Here is a shot of my neighbor Kevin raking the hay with me standing on my back deck, My neighbor takes care of my hay field, I don't do any farming...He raises championship Borer Goats, He makes pretty good money off them and he keeps my field looking good all summer long

I couldn't believe this one! My wife and I took a long weekend get away and drove up along the east side of Lake Michigan this summer, when we got to New Buffalo we spent some time on the beach, then we decided to hit a few antique stores when we pulled into this place :headscrat

So does the store owner know his sign is on your barn? Or are you letting it cool down a bit before hanging it up LOL

Just found your thread and like your little piece of heaven. A 30 X 40 is a nice size to work in
Good luck with it

Thanks for checking in and for the complements on the barn. I will be posting the work that I have done on the inside soon, Yeah the Packers are gaining, Because Jay Cutler is 1-11 against the Packers in his seven years with the Bears..Its really getting frustrating watching him play :eyecrazy:

The New Buffalo visit was fun! Da Barn Antique store was right next to Redamak's Tavern on Buffalo St. I will definitely get back there again someday...
