I signed up for The 2016 9th annual Garage Journal Secret Santa gift exchange and it was a lot of fun, I posted this already on Secret Santa thread, but I wanted to post it here too. Thanks to Blubolt for being my secret Santa this year :)

Well I got to open my secret Santa gift and I was really blown away by what was inside!!!

It was very well thought out! I really liked everything that was included, especially the vintage eye glass cleaner dispenser with some original product inside and the vintage GM polishing cloth tin. These are items I would have bought for myself if I had ran across them :)

I also got a 6-1 screwdriver from the Harry Epstein Company, My first ever Harry Epstein tool.

I got a Snap-On screwdriver, also the first ever Snap-on tool in DaBarn.

Bluebolt must have checked out my thread really close! He also got me some root beer flavored Dum Dum suckers and some Louisiana locally grown pecans.

Also included was a vintage Mr Goodwrench note pad and a really nice letter explaining all about the items included in my package and how Bluebolt acquired them (a really nice touch).

Thanks to Bluebolt and The Garage Journal for doing the secret Santa thread!!! Just awesome!!!

Merry Christmas to all xmas

Thank you for sharing the pictures of snow. Let's me enjoy a white Christmas without the -18 degrees.

May your Christmas be peaceful and filled with love and the New Year be a time of rebirth.

Thanks for the visit and the well wishes! Maybe next year I will come down and spend the winter with you in Florida

I'm finally ready to post the build of my new shop. It's already mostly done on the outside. I have documented it with pictures and will share them with you, It will be a 30' x 40' pole style building with 12' side walls and a 4/12 pitch roof with a one foot overhang all the way around, It will have one 10' x 10' overhead door and one 36" service door with no windows. The main goal is to save money and do the work myself with a lot of help from my son Cody. I'm a big Chicago Bears football fan “DaBears” so hence the name of my build “DaBarn”. I have a neighbor who is a contractor haul in 2 tri axle loads of dirt and level it out and compact it, Payment was a trade for the 8 x 10 shed that sat where the barn is going, I'm very happy with that deal and he hauled the shed off. So now I'm ready to lay out the barn and get started.
I have a niece that lives up in your neck of the woods! I will keep an eye on your build and maybe some day when we get up that way I will do a drive by and see it in real time! She married a Barker!

BF, just awesome...

You can't have too many display shelves, go for it..

To you and yours have a merry Christmas and enjoy the day..

Regards

1/2 Cup

Thanks for the visit 1/2, I need to make some time to get out in DaBarn, Never seems to be enough hours in the day :dunno:

That is very cool BF and bluebolt.

I see pecan pie in your future, one of my favourites.

Hope you had a great Xmas day.

Cheers GB.

Grumblebum

I don't think the pecans will last long enough to make a pie  That was a great package that bluebolt had sent, can't wait to get my treasurers hung in DaBarn...

Glad you enjoyed everything Bears Fan! Do you have that lens tissue dispenser hung on your wall yet LOL?

I plan on getting out to the barn tomorrow and I want to get the lens cleaner dispenser hung...I will post some pictures soon

Thanks for the visit! PM me if you ever get up this way, I do know some Barkers in this area...

Like 1/2 cup said, you can never have too many display shelves. Don't remember seeing the other two cans before, but all of that is really cool. I guess I'm an old tin junkie.....

Thanks for checking back in! I need to get some barn time to build some more shelves, I didn't have the other cans displayed in the barn yet :headscrat

Happy New Year To All !!!

Got some garage time in yesterday  For The Garage Journal Secret Santa gift exchange I received a awesome gift from bluebolt, it is a vintage lens tissue holder dispenser, it fits in with DaBarn theme perfect, I got it finished and hung...

First I hand rubbed it out with some good cleaner wax to bring back some of the original shine, notice the green paint on the waxing pad.

great%20009%20Custom_zpssdnvkcwz.jpg

Then I hand filed a grove in it to receive the lock mechanism (notice the notch at the top), then I had to file down the key to make it work properly, the lock does turn clockwise, but was hanging up, it now works perfect

great%20053%20Custom_zpsfjye8fwg.jpg

And here is a couple of photo's of it hanging in Dabarn! Just a awesome addition to my little collection, its all about the small details ;) A big thank you to bluebolt again

I was also working on a vintage Gates fan belt display a couple of weeks ago. I did finish it up, but I didn't have any belts hanging on it, I got online and found a really cheap place to buy fan belts https://www.vbelts4less.com, so I ordered eight belts and they were shipped this week, they are a cheap India made belt and not original Gates belts, but I only had to pay $16.08 plus shipping for the eight belts. I put them in the original Gates sleeves (that I got off Ebay) and hung them up on the display rack...

BF, another real nice piece you've added to your museum. I don't think it matters who made the belts, it's the look that's important.

I was going threw some of my old photo's and found some pics of the two vintage coin operated machines that I put on the corner shelf I made a while back, I thought some of you may like to see some close ups of them, One is a stamp coin-op vending machine and the second is a miniature candy bar machine...

Thanks for the visit! I was real happy with how the Gates v-belt rack turned out!

Thanks for the compliments...I did find some Gates belts online, but they were a little expensive to buy just to display them, so I went with the cheapies! Don't tell no one

Nice build! Amazing how quick groups of amish can build a barn isn't it? When I started building mine in October 2016 someone else down the road hired a local contractor to build a barn. Took them a week to get it down with concrete.. 4 months later Im almost done with the exterior metal.... :(

How did you end up insulating the attic? Maybe I missed it...

Very partial to the Dr. P sign. Nice!!!

Really liking your growing collection of vending machines.

shortykorte

Thanks for the visit, I really like the vintage Dr Pepper sign too, its one of my favorites. Its getting harder to come by good deals on these kind of signs anymore, if you find one in good shape they want a arm and a leg for it! The sign market is threw the roof right now :eyecrazy:

BF, top stuff..

Regards

1/2 Cup

Its always a pleasure having you drop by and thanks for the compliments...

So.... are those both nickel and dime machines? Awesome find. Hard to find in that condition.
Billy

53PontiacSD

The stamp machine is a 5 cent and 10 cent machine, the entire face of that machine is porcelain, they done some really cool work with porcelain back in the day...the Select-O-Vending is just a penny machine and it has a hand turn carousel inside for selecting the different products, I really enjoy seeing how they made these machines operate on mechanics only! with no electronics...

IMG_7999%20Custom_zps0us0bc7w.jpg

No kidding eh. I'll bet he's not going to tell us where he finds all this nice stuff.

dlcwent

Thanks for the visit! I have been collecting these small coin-op machines for sometime now and I still have some stashed in the basement that have yet to find their way out to the barn :) I go to auctions, flea markets, antique stores and I even have found a few online and I have actually bought some off of my customers when I go to their houses...

Thanks for stopping by! I have not insulated my ceiling yet :( It would be easy to pay someone to come and blown the attic full on insulation, but I don't think I want to do that? The trusses are 4' on center and I would like to get some batt insulation that is 4' wide and roll it out between the trusses, Its just something I have yet to get to :headscrat

I think it's time for an updated shot of the DaBarn. You have acquired and added so many new things that we need a panoramic shot or something to see just how the DaBarn looks now.

Yeah the porcelain coating on those smaller machines may have been a lot better because they didn't chip and rust like painted ones. My dad used to work on machines like that and cigarette machines when I was a kid. Man I should have been more interested and paid attention to those old machines.

Have you seen the 4' wide insulation? I had been planning on just blowing in insulation when the time comes but if the 4' wide batts are a decent price that may be the better way to go.

Thanks for dropping by on my thread. I remember your thread from some time ago, but just went by and updated myself.....

And your grandkids dog "Biscuit" is just like my daughter's newest addition, "Willow". They could easily be brother and sister

Lauren (my eldest) also has a year older French Bulldog that is anything but (by his looks), named "Eddie". He's a weird looking bit of kit, with a very big head for his size, but she (and her BF) love them both, equally.

And your "shed" has some great looking toys in it. Some really great collectables. Just, well, you can keep the snow..... I have enough trouble dealing with our climate extremes, without having to worry about snow. . . . . :willy_nil

Have a great one.

You know if you got rid of the old useless Dr. Pepper sign, built another Dabarn pipe shelf, you could display your outboard oil cans above the tube repair collection. :D

The old porcelain jobs do look awesome, but you got to be really careful working on them as not to chip it...I wish I had one of those vintage cigarette machines in my collection :D

Love the Gates display! Been looking to do the same. I have 3 of the hangars but still looking for the sign and belts. :(

Homebody

I was real happy with how the Gates belt hanger turned out! It took a while to find all the pieces, I always remembered seeing these hanging up high in the auto parts store as a kid...

Have you seen the 4' wide insulation? I had been planning on just blowing in insulation when the time comes but if the 4' wide batts are a decent price that may be the better way to go.

I'm really not sure if anyone makes 4' wide batts? but I like the idea. I'm really not to keen on blowing insulation in the attic of the barn...

Thanks for the visit! I enjoy all the threads from Australia and would love to vacation there someday? I really like the new dog, Biscuit sure is a playful little thing...I feel your pain on the insomnia too, I usually wake up around 3 or 4 am and rarely get back to sleep :eyecrazy: I do like the seasonal changes around here but we have had a lot of single digit temps with negative wind chill factors!!! I will be looking forward to spring

I was going to respond with"Send the sign to me and when I go to California to perform the extensive safety check on a certain 62, I'll deliver the sign to Don"

Then I scroll down and the next post is from Don. I'll take that as my ESPN vibes worked and you both are onboard with my great idea.

Some how, I had missed your thread until today. Just read thru the entire thread and really enjoyed it. Your barn is better insulated than my house! I love your taste in garage decorations. I like oil cans, gas pumps, vending machines, etc. So far, the only vending machine I have added to my shop is a 25 cent condom machine that originally came from a tourist attraction on old Route 66 called the Buffalo Ranch (now defunct). Didn't realize you could derust so effectively with apple cider vinegar. I may have to try that on a future project. I do wish you would post a panoramic view of your shop interior - I am dying to know where you hung the urinal!
