Neat idea.... I like it......

I love the "new" light.
one suggestion: Edison bulbs instead of the curly q's maybe?

Bears Fan,
Your light is cool!

LED Edison bulbs! :rocker:

Yes on the Edison bulbs. Do they make them in LED?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes they do. Soooooo much cooler (temp) and many styles. Not cheap though.

Garage Journal Friends

Hey guys thanks for the kind words about my new light, I can't take credit for the idea though, I saw one somewhere else and just copied it...

I'm real happy with how it turned out and I still might take it down and add some paint to the yoke or I might just clear coat it?

Thanks for the idea of the Edison bulbs, I do think they are cool looking! I will check into a couple when I get some time

Well its Saturday morning, I need to go out and mow but we had some heavy rain last night and now I need to wait till it drys off a bit before getting out there! So I made a second cup of coffee and I'm killing time on The Garage Journal

I did get a new (to me) 2014 Chevy Silverado, it only has 33,000 miles on it and the paint is in perfect condition, it does have a few rust spots on the frame that I will address soon...but other then that it is a nice truck, I really liked the dark blue color and I didn't think the price was too bad...

I'm really not to keen on the black rims and may look for a set of aluminum take offs from a 2014 or newer Silverado and swap them out?

Here's some pictures of it after putting on a coat of Meguiar's gold class liquid wax, I really like that wax, its easy on and easy off and has a great sheen to it

Hey BF, I usually don't comment on a thread until I've caught up - but I'm on page 12 (I slipped that in so I can find my place again), and I've just gotta say that I love that Blazer.
What a great find.

I actually started reading the first few pages of this thread about a year ago, then got sidetracked and didn't get back to it (I have lots of subscribed threads that are patiently awaiting my return).
Seeing as you read through my thread, I thought it's only fair that I should start on yours again.

At first I wondered about all the insulation, then I saw the "blizzard pic" :scared:
Now I understand.

I like the light fittings and you did a great job on the Attic door.

Nice place..

Cutlers only problem is color blindness, if they only made glasses that allowed you to differentiate between the different uniforms, I am sure he would be ok. Actually surprised he never threw the ball to the refs.

He did. Left handed... to the refs balls!

Thanks! I needed a good laugh  Your last comment did remind me of this video though...

Got a call from a guy who had something he wanted me to look at, I was excited to see what it was...I always wanted to pick one of these oil racks up but never found one for the right price, well this one came home with me for a good price and in pretty good condition, It still needs a little cleaning, but other then that I plan on leaving it as is :D

Thanks for the visit, I'm enjoying the new Silverado, still looking for a good buy on some different Silverado rims and tires for it...maybe something like these?

Very cool on all the projects!

I did take some time out to redo my driveway. It was tapered from the approach down to the road, I wanted to make it the same width as the approach all the way down to the road... I said it before! its nice to work for a company that has some heavy equipment on hand  I borrowed the mini excavator, dump truck and the bobcat, it was awesome! there was very little manual labor involved...I straightened out the driveway with the mini excavator and hauled off two loads of dirt, then I hauled in almost 40 tons of limestone and leveled it out with the bobcat. The limestone had a lot of crushed powder in it and after it rained it packed down really nice, almost like concrete, I was happy with how it turned out...

I was so excited yesterday...Opening weekend for college football, I just hung out in DaBarn relaxed and took in several games, including my favorite Notre Dame, they actually look really good this week against Temple, They will face the tough running game of Georgia next week though :wtf:

I have been getting in some garage time this week...I have been working on a little sign project. As I posted a while back I had picked up a vintage gas station price sign and it came with a bunch of extra numbers, I didn't want to just store them all away and never see them again, so I thought I would use them to make a couple of signs

36348459472_75e4a679a0_o.jpg

36516584815_4b78170f59_o.jpg

These were the extra numbers I had left over, I used the 22 cent and 25 cent for the vintage gas station sign I hung up in DaBarn, And I'm making two signs out of some of the extra numbers...

36881748915_992aea618e_o.jpg

I started out by cutting some 1/2" sanded plywood for the back...

36741802131_7ff7c4d35e_o.jpg

Then I ripped some 1'x3' pine boards down, mitered the corners then glued and clamped it all together to let it dry over night...

36998975035_b42c90a484_o.jpg

After the glue set up, I drilled all the holes needed to mount the letters to the sign and added some hardware to the corners just to dress it up a bit...

36998975325_0d4d013715_o.jpg

After sanding them down, I managed to get two coats of primer on them yesterday while watching football in DaBarn

The wife wanted to take a spin in her 1968 Beetle today, so I got it out and got it ready for her, I managed to snap some shots of her driving off...

Hey BF, I just wanted to let you know that I received the nice package that you sent - the Indiana license plate will look great on the "Beam of Fame" (yeah, I know, that's not a very original name for it)...

View media item 74400
And I got a kick out of the Bears duct tape on the packaging.

I posted about it on my thread, but I wanted to to say thanks here too - thank you BearsFan.

I had a really busy week at work! And this is the first time all week I had time to catch up on The Garage Journal...I will share some of what we did. We upgraded four of our towers to some new equipment. It ended up being a long week and some late hours. I forgot to get any pictures of the new LTE radios going up but I did get shots of the antenna's going up on the towers. We use a lot of the same equipment as the major cell phone providers use but we use ours as a fixed deployment for internet to the home and business.

The pictures of the long white units going up on the cell towers are the antennas for the LTE 700 mhz band and the AWS LTE band. Each antenna has two sectors of AWS and one sector of 700, We put up the radios first and then had to run one fiber and one power to each of the radios, We usually put up three full sectors on each tower, one pointing north, southeast and southwest...

The crew of "Tower Dogs" or tower climbers are a unique bunch of guys, they were awesome! They climbed around on those towers like a bunch of monkeys, they even stayed up there and worked during some heavy down pours, we only had four days to get all four towers done...

I will stop chatting now and show some pics I took during the week, We got all the work done and it went off without a hitch and we kept our customers down time to a minimum...

Finally making time to check in on my old GJ friends and I won't pretend that I read every one of your posts since last time I was here but did look at all the pictures. And as expected, won't be long before you will need to build some new walls to display all your great and wonderfully restored items on. Your restoration work is very impressive. That Alemite grease pump!!!! Awesome find!!!! Been looking for one for ever.

Keep up the great work.

Had a busy couple of weeks with my day job!!! But I did find time to get my gas price signs finished up, They came out to be 26" x 32". I painted the frames a Sinclair green and added a couple of Sinclair decals just to dress it up a bit...As Vieux states "they turned out so"...

My dad has been collecting old vintage oil spout cans for me, he picks them up at garage sales or flea markets when he sees one, I have been storing them in the basement for a while, I currently have enough to fill a entire shelf, So I threw one together with some materials I had on hand, I still need to stain the wood and paint the metal trim on it yet...It turned out so :D

B.F. We do have similar tastes.
I collect those cans as well and I am getting a cell tower installed in my back yard as soon as the city issues the permit to the cell co.

I like your creative ways to display our stuff. :rocker::rocker:

Bears: it's been too long since i've visited your thread so thought i'd take a look and I love the shelf for your oil cans.

i also love the gas price sign and still recall when i used to pull in to the local gas station and ask for $2 worth of gas and get the windows washed, oil and tires checked and rolled down the road in my 1963 Mercury Comet i paid my aunt $500 for. oh and my wages at my job were $1.65 per hour and the $500 was saved up from delivering the Seattle Times papers for a couple years.

cheers

I really like the vintage industrial look, so I try to keep that look going on the shelves in DaBarn. I'm struggling right now tho! I picked up a large piece of Butternut wood for a shelf I want to put up to display some vintage 5 gallon oil cans I have collected, but because of the size of the shelf 14" x 76" I'm having a creative block on what kind of brackets that I want to use on something that large? I will post some pics when I figure it out...When I have a mental block it may take weeks to figure it out :headscrat

Glad to hear the fire scare is past, it would break my heart to see The Big Party Garage burning...Are you leasing the property to the cell company? The rent is usually pretty good :)

Holy **** Mike Glennon is a horrible QB (Maybe worse than Jay Cutler) I can't believe John Fox never put in Mitchell Trubisky...Fox should be fired and Trubisky should be the starter :headscrat

Thanks for the visit! I do remember when we would go out cruzing the back roads with my buddies on the weekends and we would go half the night on just a few dollars worth of gas and a couple of bucks for a few brews :beer2:

Are the cans empty? If so, that's not a lot of weight and three pipe brackets should work (screwed into studs). How about mounting an old step bumper to wall then put wood on top of bumper.

BF, I was thinking a couple of 45* Y fittings and 45* elbows in black pipe would give you the triangle support that would hold up a heavy load and not be dependent on just the screws in the flanges for support. Two brackets should be enough to hold up a heavy shelf.

Shorty, Bob & Thirdy

All of your ideas are great ones on the mounting of the shelf, I actually thought about using turnbuckles, but I would of had to go out and buy all the hardware for the project, so I got to looking around and found some old 1 1/2" rope pulleys I had on hand (I picked them for almost nothing in a box of garage sale items I bought a couple of summers back). I did have to buy some 1/4" rope for the shelf though...I dug out some 1/2" angle iron I had on hand and will mount it on the back of the shelf for support and use the rope and pulley's for the side brackets instead of the turnbuckles...here is a pic of the shelf, I will post some more photos when I have the time to finish it...

I took some time to pull a few signs out of the basement to work on and hang up in DaBarn

I hung up the gas price sign that I finished making a couple of weeks ago and also hung up a large Chicago Bears sign I had... I always have a hard time deciding where to hang things because of different interests, I like the vintage petroleum items, but I have a lot of Chicago Bears items too, I try to find a good balance for all :headscrat

We got a new general manger at the office where I work, He previously owned a bar in Dubois Idaho where he lived before called The Thirsty Moose, well he was kind enough to give me one of the signs he had made up for the bar. I built a frame for it and hung it up, I don't know if I want to stain the frame yet or not? but I do like the sign

My build has come to a full stop for some months now unfortunately, but I must say looking at your progress is giving me a bit of an "itch" again, thanks for that ;)
Great beetle too, they are fun to drive

Great to see you checking in! I find it hard to get motivation some days too! When that happens I just waste time here on The Garage Journal  I was happy with how the gas price signs turned out too!

The 1968 Beetle was my father-in-laws, it was originally a California car so it was always a very clean car and it has never seen snow or ice around here, it has always been a garage queen...about 10 years ago he had it restored at a local body shop that I used to work at, well my father-in-law had came down with Parkinson's disease and we purchased the car from him, I think it helped out the family with the medical expenses. My wife and her dad had some great memories together attending a lot of car shows together and being members of the Fort Wayne Volkswagen club, He also owned a 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia...Well he finally succumb to the disease last year and the Beetle holds a very special place in my wife's heart. Here's some pictures of their memories together with the Volkswagen's...

The next photo was at Don's funeral, the two lead cars in the funeral procession were both Don's....A fitting tribute and farewell
