I like the new rims on the blazer and chuckled to see the skim coat of bondo an the cigar machine. Reminded me that I need to get out in the shop and go back to work on the ferris wheel seat and sand down some bondo,

I got lucky on some of my recent scores! I now have enough projects in the barn to keep me busy through retirement

It was awesome to get the shed in and free up some space and get me more organized! I may do some landscaping around it, but that will be at a later date!!!

So jealous of the shed! I'd kill for a 10x12 for all my lawn (and snow removal) stuff...

BF: i'm trying to get caught up on a few of my favorite threads since I've had my 85 year old dad in the hospital for a couple weeks.

that said you've been very busy. what with a new shed and some great finds you also managed to restore a few nice things too.

I HEAR YOU on the CLUTTER and sometimes I'd just like to hang a big FREE SIGN on my stuff in storage, but i'll get through it and keep what i like and find homes for some of the other good stuff.

I have been spending some time giving the Blazer some much needed love! I'm a die hard old Chevy truck/blazer guy at heart...It spends too much time just sitting in the barn and not enough time out on the road

WOW! what a great shop thread. It took me a while to get through, but I can see you are a busy man! The retro items are sweet, and sometimes I wish it was like it was back then. These shop/garage threads are motivation for me to get out there and someday make my garage worthy of showing off! I have a few questions on your build. When you trimmed out the ceiling with tin did you just use 1x trim to hide the raw edge? I was looking at coating my garage ceiling in tin and thought of using an F-channel, similar to what is used when doing soffit, and didn't know if this was used also? Also I don't see an apron or anything on your shed? do you have much car/truck traffic in and out of your shed? I am looking at building a shed in my backyard in the future that will be about 200' from the roadway and currently I am only allowed one driveway. I do not want to concrete that much or have gravel going all the way back there. My thought was to do a small apron 30' maybe and the rest with the permeable paver system where you dig down and install a base rock and install "plastic egg crate" type material and the dirt and grass will grow through and will allow for drainage to not make ruts/muddy mess when driving through the yard, and will look appealing to the neighbors. I was wondering if you had something similar to this.

Nick, thanks for taking the time to check out my barn! I trimmed the metal ceiling out with some painted white pine 1" x 3" trim boards, it was cheap, easy and fast and I wanted to stay with that rustic look! I didn't want it to look like a pole barn on the inside. On the approach to the barn I still have a 4" step there, my plan for that is to extend my limestone driveway up to it, but that is another one of those retirement projects that will have to wait for now I don't have much traffic in and out of the barn, I just have my Blazer in there for now.

Wow you came to my thread for inspiration! I always go to The Big Party Garage for my motivation! With a touch of OCD I do keep DaBarn clean and organized! Thanks for taking the time to go threw my entire thread, it has been fun sharing The Little Party Garage with all The Garage Journal members and thanks for the friend request. I have been lacking on updates lately! I took on some more responsibilities with my day job, we are over building several areas with fiber to the home and businesses. We sub contracted out a company to lay the main fiber lines in for us and then I have been going in and doing the fiber drops from the peds to the houses with a Vemeer LM42 drop plow, we have two of these plows going full time now! you end up doing a lot of hand digging around the house and peds and with the humidity it has been kicking my *** for the last three weeks and I have not spent any time in the barn. I did snap a couple pictures of the plow and some hand digging I done this week on a neighbors house, it is really awesome that we are now offering Gig fiber to the home, no more complaints about speed issue

I did do a side job on Saturday of this week, a neighbor bought a used Cub Cadet zero turn mower and it was a little rough, the previous owner had ripped one of the deck wheels and bracket off of it and damaged the other side too. The bracket was missing along with the wheel, we picked up a new wheel at the local farm store and I made a copy of the bracket on the left side and just reversed it for the right side, it turned out pretty good! And now it is mowing level again

I did enjoy the start of the college football season too! I really enjoyed watching Notre Dame beat Michigan Saturday night

My mother picked up this old Finol oil can up for me this spring, It was in rough shape! so I just set it aside not thinking I would ever display it! I keep looking at it so finally I decided to try and restore it. I pushed out some of dents with a small bar and tapped down the high spots, I can't believe I spent this much time on a little 4 oz. oil can. I was happy with how it turned out and it was a fun little project.

I did a Google search and found what this can looked like in good shape.

Stripped all the paint off and got some of the dents out.

I masked off the bottom and the top, then added a layer of body filler.

This is what it looked like after a bunch of hand sanding and a couple coats of primer.

I got the spout prepped and primed too.

I had my wife get on Ebay and pick out a decal for it

We had some excitement in the neighbor hood! I had looked outside and thought the neighbors house was on fire! So I set out to see what was going on? it turned out to be a RV that had been driving down the road and caught on fire, lucky no one was injured! On the lighter side it reminded me of cousin's Eddies RV on Christmas vacation

Glad to see your back and checking in I do have to be careful on adding to much to DaBarn, I am running out of floor space, but still have some wall space left, but the vintage oil and gas signs have went threw the roof on the pricing I want to start making my own signs in the near future...stay tuned!

I have been working on restoring a vintage cigar machine for my son Cody, I finally got it smooth and a final coat of primer on it, it was in rough shape when I started. It got cold on us here so I didn't want to paint it outside in this weather, so I took it to a old friend I used to work with at the body shop and he was shooting a motorcycle in a copper color that I really liked, so I had him paint it for me, it turned out really nice and smooth... I assembled what I could on it for now this morning! And now I just need to finish the front, I'm not sure what to do with the front yet? Well here is some pictures of it as it sits today and a old shot of what it looked like when I first bought it.

Sorry its been a long time since I had posted anything to my thread! I did finish the cigar machine and I got it over to my son's house for him, finally! I had that thing sitting at my house for a couple of years now

I ended up cleaning the rust off the front panel with some zero ought steel wool and some 600 grit wet sandpaper then I put four coats of clear on it to smooth it out and keep it from rusting. I also added a new lock on it.

It looks great and Cody loved it! Now its a cool display piece in his house

Awhile back I had picked up a old decimal equivalent chart from a antique store while shopping with the wife! The patina on it attracted me to it and it brought back memories of when I was a tool and die maker from a long time past, that and I only paid $10.00 for it

I new I wanted to hang it up in Dabarn, but I struggled on finding a cool frame for it, so what does a member of The Garage Journal do or a old machinist do when he can't find something? Yes you make it

I started out cutting some 3/4" square tubing.

A test fit

I welded up the four corners in my 90 degree corner vise...everyone should have one of these vises in their garage

Then I welded in some 1/2" flat stock, trying to evenly space the tack welds...

I picked up some 3/16" x 3/4" round head rivets to add around the frame...

After drilling the holes for the rivets I welded them in from the back side.

After adding a couple of tabs on the top to hang it up with I was going to have it powder coated but the wife really like the look of the raw steel so I just cleaned it up and added four coats of clear on it to keep it from rusting...

I tapped some 10-32 threads in the back to hold the board and decimal chart in with some aluminum tabs...

I had the local glass shop cut a piece of glass for it and got it put together, I really liked the way it turned out! i just love the vintage industrial age or look
