BF: thanks for putting together that video of all those old cool cars. interesting place to have a wedding that is for certain, but speaking of Don I bet he's had a few at his Party Garage or at least a few receptions.

I saw a similar jack the other day that a guy welded in an attempt to make a base for a coffee table and sorry I forgot to take a picture of it, but I was a bit sad seeing an old cool tool turned into a table.

how's that porch for sitting on and having an evening beer or relaxing couple minutes?

Drives

It was a really cool wedding and a fun evening, I really enjoyed looking at all those classics.

We have really enjoyed time on the new porch, but I really need to get my *** in gear and get it finished

Well darn, I thought you got a new barn. You captured some cars I’ve never seen before. Thanks for sharing.

I couldn't afford one of those cars alone to have a whole building of them
It was really amazing to see the size and craftsmanship that went into the luxury cars of that era

I wanted to add our house numbers on the new porch, but I couldn't find anything I liked? so I ordered the numbers I wanted and made my own little plaque for them, I just used stuff I already had laying around, the galvanized steel was part of some old duct work.

BF: i'm planning on making an address sign out of 8x8's, 2x8 and some aluminum #'s, but OMG I'm sure if I had the talent yours would look better. nice work and the brass screws are a nice finishing touch.

finishing and staining the deck next summer sounds good to me and will also allow neighbors to stop by and hand you beers from the fridge while you are staining it.

glad to hear you like your porch cause it does look like a KEEPER!!

My daughter bought a new puppy home, its a 12 week old Labradoodle, she named her Noble after the county we live in, My daughter is the executive director of the Noble County Convention Center and Visitors Bureau. I told her the county now has a new mascot

Well as any puppy she is full of energy, when you filled up her food dish or water bowl, she thought that she would pick it up and carry it around the house, spilling all the contents along the way :wtf:

So I set out to remedy the situation by making it impossible for her to make a mess with her dog dishes

02-X4.jpg

Who could say no to a face like this :)

03-X4.jpg

I picked up some new dishes at the local farm store, turned on the Bears game and went to work!

04-X4.jpg

I started out with some 16 gauge steel for strength and weight.

10-X2.jpg

Had to do a little test run!

11-X4.jpg

On to paint, a couple of coats of black and then I decided to add her name to it.

12-X4.jpg

13-X4.jpg

14-X4.jpg

I added some pads to the legs so it will not scratch the floor.

15-X4.jpg

Then to finish it off I gave it a coat of clear.

Problem solved :pimpflash

I see some creative juices have spilled out again
That's a very cool number plate. nice work.

I looked at my jack and it is the same kind as the one you shot but mine has had a bit harder life and it needs resurrected.

Those house numbers look just right!

Bears Fan,
The house numbers turned out great!

Nice job on the number plate - very artistic!

Nice job on the number plate, BF. You have a great eye for design.
Really like that tape measure, BTW...
;)

Garage Journal Friends

Thanks for the complements on the house numbers plaque, I like these quick easy little projects, "I have a short attention span" :wtf: I can have a football game on the TV while working on one of these little projects and feel that I haven't wasted three hours just on a Irish or Bears game.

Don I love your vintage jack collection and I instantly thought of you when I saw that jack at the Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum

PugetDude I knew you would get a kick out of my favorite tape measure

BF, great job on the address plaque and the dog bowl stand. Your attention to details on all your projects no matter their size and your creativity really make them something special. I'll bet you really enjoy working on projects in DaBarn with a game on in the background. So jealous...

BF Thanks for the compliment on Mikes Man Cave from the looks of your Barn I would say we must be brothers from another mother. Only problem is now I have Barn envy. Like so many others I am limited to size by the city. I would love to have a shop big enough to accommodate a English wheel, bead roller, CNC mach. you get it Im sure. Till then I'll just have to be content with a beer and a shot and keeping Mrs. Cat happy. Mike

I picked up a Northwestern Model 60 gumball machine a while back and decided to give it a make over.

01-X5.jpg

This is what I started with, it was in pretty decent shape!

02-X5.jpg

I got it all tore down with no issues.

03-X5.jpg

I didn't want to drag the sandblaster out, so I decided to strip the parts that needed paint.

04-X5.jpg

Only one layer of paint it came off pretty easy with only one coat of stripper.

05-X5.jpg

Once I got all the stripper off I spent a bunch of time sanding them down, I'm really happy with how they came out, no filler needed any where!

06-X5.jpg

The parts were in such good shape I decided to drop them off at the local powder coater,
he done a great job on them and it didn't cost me anymore then if I had went out and bought the paint for it.

07-X5.jpg

While the parts were out being powder coated, I buffed the chrome pieces out with some blue stick compound.

08-X5.jpg

I ordered some new decals for the front.

09-X5.jpg

I actually got them on straight! The chrome decals really set the yellow off.

10-X5.jpg

This gumball machine was in really good shape when I started, but I was real excited on how it turned out

I may put this one in my office at work for a display piece

BF, that gum ball machine was in pretty nice shape but now it looks brand new.
Great job and thanks for the update, I assume that going in daBarn? You should look for some Michelob Ultra flavored gum balls. :lol_hitti

Jeff

I never chew gum either! I'm always fascinated by the mechanics of the vintage coin operated machines as they made them work with no electronics.

Bears Fan,
Nice job on the gumball machine!

Jon

Thanks for the visit! I enjoy these small projects, no more car restorations for me :lol_hitti

I moved into my new office seven months ago and had yet to hang anything up on the walls, so naturally my coworkers have been giving me a hard time about it! Well I had the week off work, so I finished up some projects that I have been working on, then my lovely wife and I went over Saturday to decorate my office to add a little flair to make it my own.

01-X4.jpg

03-X4.jpg

02-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

I made a large picture frame to display all my ticket stubs from Notre Dame football games that I have attended.

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

05-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

07-X4.jpg

I made a couple for smaller frames to hold two 4 x 6 pictures of each of my kids.

01-X4.jpg

02-X4.jpg

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

I had a friend give a piece of curly maple, so I made a coat rack out of it to hang in my office.

01-X4.jpg

03-X4.jpg

02-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

I took a piece of oak and stained it dark Walnut :headscrat then added my only little touch to it with some metal work, I hung this shelf in my office to display some vintage office equipment that I restored earlier this summer.

I rounded up some other items that I either made or restored to add a personal touch to my office at work, I will post some pictures of my finished office soon.

All in all it was a real productive week! I would make a great retiree

The office looks great! The picture is of my son playing in the RCA dome in Indianapolis and again serving in Iraq. I'm not that intimidating

Thanks for the visit! In all seriousness you are not the first person to tell me that my wife is an angle, I tell her all the time how lucky she is, but in reality I'm the lucky one!!!

I figured someone would ask me about using the wife's kitchen  Even though I do my projects in DaBarn, I like to take pictures of them on the kitchen bar, she has really good lighting in there and it makes my projects look better

I’m sure your office was the talk around the water cooler. Looks great and thanks for sharing. Since I too have a windowless office, I’d like to recommend your next project. I’m thinking an old window frame with this as the view outside. d5472a7a8cdc14cef01b636ee71c9543.jpg

Even Jerry Jones with all his money can't buy wins, but I no room to talk, being a Bears fan this year was a bit frustrating, but they did beat those Cowgirls this year
