new signs looks great so far. best of luck figuring out what to put on them. the one with the cast iron stand looks a lot like a NO PARKING or Parking for BEARS FANS ONLY.

shout out to Jim for sending you a nice old stamp machine and OMG you made it it look brand new too. WELL DONE!!

drives

I got enough signs to paint now  that was awesome of Jim to take the time to send me that stamp machine, it is a cool addition to DaBarn (y)

I'm glad I could help decorate the "Little Party Garage".

Jon

Thanks again! I polished all the new plates I got from the Garage Journal members and they look great

when I checked on your thread earlier it didn't show all the posts about all this license plate collecting. sorry i've never collected them, but i've saved a couple recently that I took off my own cars cause i sometimes need the aluminum and Washington is now making us buy new plates every 2 years. it looks like you have plenty of Washington and looks like you'll have 50 states soon at the pace the GJ members are sending you some.

Big shout out to GJ members and of course BF you deserve these cause you are always taking the time to show us how you make or restore a ton of interesting stuff and you are a great guy too (probably cause you married a great gal).

good luck on finding room to hang all these license plates.

drives

Thanks for stopping in! I'm taking a lawn chair down by the mailbox tomorrow and wait for the mailman to arrive 🤣

Tony,
I haven't mailed my plate yet. I was telling a buddy of mine what you were doing and he is bringing me another plate to add to the mix.

That's awesome! Let your buddy know I really appreciate it

Thanks for the Ohio plate, it cleaned up really nice, I love the old vintage plates

Thanks! Great plates and color, they polished up really nice, I'm really excited to collect all 50 states now :)

I finished my Chicago Bears bar clamps up today, they came out really nice. Glad to have a heavy duty set of 48" clamps to use now

I had the thought of posting these on Ebay as a vintage, limited edition Chicago Bears bar clamp set for a stupid price of $1250.00 and see if I could get someone to bid on them 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tony How do you manage to keep the shop so clean???
Clamps look great. glad the plate made it. When I come across my box of plates I'll make another contribution.
I'm pleased with the way old Michelin turned out. Thanks

Scott

You get my humor :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes I get on Ebay and just freak out on how much people are asking for their stuff, I quite going to auctions too sometime back, because I see the same people there buying everything up and they just don't seem to care what they pay for it, they just add 30 percent or so to it then post it on Ebay to resale. It took the fun out of it for me. What I do enjoy is making the things that I do out in "The Little Party Barn" :)

Yeah! I have never been diagnosed, but I'm sure I have some form or degree of OCD, I can't function in a mess, sometimes I clean up in the middle of a project, then go right back to working on it again, then I find myself pulling out the same tools I was using a minute or two ago that I just put away o_O

I have a friend that when he comes over and I'm not looking he moves tools around inside my toolbox just to screw with me :ROFLMAO:

I have a Dyson vacuum sweeper that I sweep the barn with instead of a push broom, it doesn't kick up the dust that a broom would, it picks up all that fine cement dust. Yeah! I know its weird but it makes sense to me

Everyone that comes over gets a chuckle out of how clean and organized my barns is, I'm glad that I can make them smile, but they wish their shop was always that clean.

Thanks for the comment on the clamps, now I don't want to use them in fear of scratching them, OH ****! I feel my OCD kicking in again 🤣

I had Friday off from work so after mowing and trimming the yard I finished up another sign, YEAH I KNOW RIGHT LIKE I NEEDED ANOTHER SIGN SITTING AROUND THAT NEEDS PAINTING :ROFLMAO:

01-X4.jpg

I had this piece for a while now, it was my first attempt at making a door for my wife's spice cabinet but it warped real bad, so I made a new door and I saved this piece for another day, after staring at it for a while, I decided to make a lighted sign can out of it.

02-X4.jpg

After cutting out the warped center I started to add sides to it.

03-X4.jpg

04-X4.jpg

I made the back panel for it and added some drilled and tapped tabs so I would be able to remove it.

05-X4.jpg

I welded the tabs to the sides of the sign.

07-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

I have the fab work done, I need to go to the local glass shop and pick up a piece of 6" x 18" etched glass or maybe some milk glass for the front, then wire up a light inside, then it will be ready for a paint job and a theme?

Something similar to this?

BF, glad to see you getting stuff done out in DaBarn. It sure does always look clean out there.
Is your arm tired waxing all those plates up? I read where you already have a WA plate but let me know if you need another one.
Looking forward to seeing what your home made signs turn out like, I’m sure they will be top notch like all your projects.
Have a Happy 4th! 🎇🌭

My fingers are sore from rubbing all that wax on those license plates 😅 The license plate collection is coming along nicely, I can't believe the generosity of The Garage Journal members! I did enjoy most of Sunday out in the barn just doing what I do. Hope you and your family had a great 4th of July weekend 🎆🎇

We had some straight line winds blow through here last week, my neighbor had a tree blow over, it was pretty rotten at the base. Saturday I heard him fire up his chainsaw so I went over to help him cut it up and burn all the brush.

40-X4.jpg

41-X4.jpg

After about three hours of sweat and blood it looked like this :) It felt good to help out a neighbor, then we shared a couple of cold ones afterwards

With having Monday off work for the 4th 🎇🎆 I decided to work on my other hobby, BBQ. Whats more patriotic then flying the American flag, shooting off fire works and smoking some meat 😋 I made some 3-2-1 ribs on the pellet grill, the wife made some homemade potato salad and we picked up some fresh corn on the cob 🤗

Well Saturday's mail came and it almost brought me to tears, I received two more packages in the mail, the first one was from Bob Heine down in Florida and the second one was from Pugetdude AKA Scott out in Arizona, I was so excited to open up the packages and I'm humbled by the generosity of the members here, THANKS GUYS!

06-X4.jpg

Bob sent me a Florida Plate with a nice little letter about him using that plate on one of his Corvettes

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! I have license plate updated count 😅

As of today I have 14 states and all polished up! Seems like I have a long way to go

I’m almost a full blown vegetarian these days now that my bride isn’t cooking meat for the kids. She’s been a vegetarian (plus fish) since about 1990. They said I’d love to eat a meal like the one you just made.

great to hear your plate collection is growing so fast. Just curious how these are being shipped? Ups, USPS or? And in envelopes or do tell?
Nice pic with the chair!!

I see an Illinois missing from your collection. As a Bears Fan I always figured you to be from IL. If it's a state you need, send me your address. I came across at least one while knocking around the garage today.

Too funny

Jim

Thanks! I sometimes I come up with a good one, but usually nobody gets me :ROFLMAO:

Sorry, but your package is slated for Thursday. Sometimes USPS is a little slower on delivery. So it should be there when you get home from work. Cheers

Billy

And what Harley Jim said. "Too funny":giggle:

Billy

Thanks for your kind generosity, your package arrived today! its an awesome addition to the collection 🍺

There is no way I could become a vegetarian, I grew up on a small farm and was raised on meat.

So far all the plates I received were shipped through USPS.

Tony, if I didn't send the plate to you or someone else on the GJ, my kids would be laughing as they threw the plates away, asking their mother why I was saving old license plates.

Our daughter called the other day to let me know one of my grandsons has been going to Gymkhana events. Obviously much fancier than the Autocross events we went to when she was young. Two years ago he said he wanted a manual transmission car to drive in events so they gave him his father's old Silverado 1500 Extend Cab with an automatic. Not sure it was really my daughter I was talking to because she acted like slinging a car around a course marked with cones was something totally new that she and her son had discovered. I taught her to drive a standard shift when she was 13 so she wouldn't be stuck somewhere in a car with a couple of teenagers too drunk to drive her home. Looks like her '04 Honda CR-V is as sporty as it's going to get.

Good luck on your licence plate collection. Reminds me of my friend Keith who drove his Grabber Orange Mustang in all 50 states, even shipped his car on a boat to Hawaii from Alaska to hit the 50th state. He sure was dedicated, and I am sure you feel the same about collecting all 50 plates! Hmmmm, I wonder what will happen if you get a plate from Europe... Middle East, Ukraine? Sometimes it never ends....LOL! Have fun and while your out sitting by the mailbox, consider these 12 unusual things a postal carrier experience everyday.

I'm surprised you got your package today. USPS really got on the ball.

Billy,

That's a cool story about your friend driving his Mustang in all 50 states, when I win the lottery I want to visit all my Garage Journal friends garages, maybe by then I will have a GJ friend in each state :)

Illinois plate was sent USPS Friday 7/2/2021

Sent you a pm with a little back story on the plate.

Sifan,

The plate arrived :D I enjoyed the back story on the plate, I'm glad your wife got her initials on there first :ROFLMAO:

Thank you

Don,

The ribs where awesome 😋 I think once I get closer to 50 plates I will hang them up in five rows of ten, I have the specialized plates hanging on the other side of the garage.

Your ice cream sign, the Michelin compressor, the light bulb boxes and that scale turned out amazing, Be glad I don't live next door or I would probably have a project sitting in your paint booth right now

Jim,

I received the Tennessee plates today :geek: They polished up very nice! tell your friend thanks a bunch for the other plate and the Tennessee car show plate was a very cool surprise! hope the back starts feeling better (y)

I got to spend some time in the barn this past weekend working on my Correct Measure gas pump, after rolling the steel, I cut it in two pieces making both outer skins for the bottom half of the pump.

05-X4.jpg

06-X4.jpg

I tack welded a piece of 1" flat stock to the inside of the back skin this will allow me to attach both halves together with 10-32 bolts.

07-X4.jpg

09-X4.jpg

I needed to cut a 3" hole for the pump stem to stick out.

08-X4.jpg

10-X4.jpg

That's all for now...

Kyle

Thank you for the new license plates 🍺 I received 3 more plates, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, they polished up really nice.

My state license plate collection is now up to 23 different states (y)

Great work on the gas pump Tony. I have a couple that I would like to get back to but summer got in my way.
Half way there on the plates 👍

Jim

Thanks for the compliment, The gas pump will probably be a long term project 🤔

You're welcome!

Kyle

Those plates look like new! I only need 27 more :ROFLMAO:

Hey Tony
Did you roll that 16 gauge steel? What did you use if you did it?
Sure makes that pump look like something now!

Don

I can roll a piece of 16 gauge steel 52" long on my 3 in 1 Baileigh, but I made this piece out of 12 gauge steel so I had to take it to a local HVAC shop and they rolled it for me free of charge, I wish now I would have made it out of 16 gauge steel, the one half fit perfect but the other half is too wide now after it sprung back after cutting it, I will take the one half back and see if they can put it back in their roller to get it a little closer to where it needs to be.

Here is a picture of my Baileigh 3 in 1 shear, break and roller.

52-X4.jpg

51-X2.jpg

I know I know I should of made it out of 16 gauge 🤔

Oh yes I remember now. I had forgotten you posted it back when. I've been thinking of getting a magnet break to replace the one I have now that is not that good. I have a roller too but it takes 3 strong men and a boy to turn anything on it.

Don

I should of made that gas pump skin out of 16 gauge steel instead of 12 gauge, but live and learn, I will post some pictures of it later, but I came up a little short on the diameter and I will need to add some to it today, always the story of my life  but hey good thing I can weld :ROFLMAO:

I really like my Baileigh 3 in 1, it shears and bends really nice and easy, but it makes me sweat when I need to roll something 😅

You are very welcome for the plates.

Billy

Thanks again for the plates 🍻

I made up a little spread sheet to keep track of which plates I have and which ones I still need, my memory is not what it used to be

23 down and only 27 to go

Spent a little time on my gravity fed gas pump today, this is the issue I had when I tried joining the two halves together, I came up almost 3/8" short? "the story of my life" 😅

Well there was only one thing I could do was to cut a piece of steel and weld it on.

11-X4.jpg

12-X4.jpg

13-X4.jpg

The piece of steel was too small to hold, so I had to come up with a way to clamp it so I could cut it down to size.

14-X4.jpg

15-X4.jpg

I tacked on the new piece and ground it down.

16-X4.jpg

The right side fits together real nice with a good gap, it still needs a little love with the grinder.

17-X4.jpg

The left side is better then it looks! the add on piece came out straight and I now have the proper gap, I need to take it back off and spend some time to finish welding and grinding it to make it look purdy again.

Looking good Tony

Jim

Thanks, I have been following along on your trailer roof to see how it comes out, I wish I had a trailer that large to throw all the **** in that I have in my basement that I will never use again 😅

Nice save on the cylinders.

I would have welded in the patch and still been a 1/8" short...

Scott

Hey! not bad for me either, I only had to modify it one time to make it fit, usually it takes me a few tries, but I'm an expert at fixing my screw ups, "I practice a lot" 😅

On the bright side the 12 gauge made it easier to weld to. Nice save buddy

Don

Yes, it did work out in the end, I still have a long way to go though

I'm have some medical issue's? so I have had almost no energy for projects lately in DaBarn, so not much to report on there :(

Here in Northern Indiana we have had a tremendous amount of rain for July and August, usually by July I'm down to mowing my yard once a week, this being mid August already and I'm still mowing twice a week, on the bright side the yard is still really green and looking great! that is about all I can muster up energy for, before I get tired. I did get my bushes trimmed up, I only have four of them "thank goodness" :) The corn in my field is 10' tall, the farmers around here are going to have a bumper crop this year.

Trimmed-X4.jpg

I did pick up a couple of new items for DaBarn

02-X4.jpg

01-X4.jpg

A vintage Royal ignition spray can, I liked the graphics on it and it cleaned up real nice (y)

19-X4.jpg

I added another license plate to the state collection, Connecticut "the constitution state".

New state count is at 24 plates, only 26 to go

The route I take to work every morning is just lousy with deer!!! I need to be very vigilant on the way in as not to hit one, I spot deer every morning, I stopped an took a picture of four of them walking down the road last week on my way to work :ROFLMAO:

01-X4.jpg

02-X4.jpg

We had a nasty front blow through here on Thursday morning! We had 73 mph wind gusts and lots of lightning, I was about 2 blocks from my office when a lightning bolt stuck near me blinding me for a second and scaring the **** out of me! I drove around the block to see if there was any damage, the lightning bolt I heard happened at 7:50 am, I took this picture at 8:09.

The fire depart is only a couple of blocks away and was on the scene that quick, the first truck was just setting up when I snapped this picture at 8:09 the fire was under control at 8:20 but the building was a total loss and no one was hurt, the first employee had just pulled into the parking lot and she was still in her car when it struck, she is the one that called 911.
