RENE: i know some of the DIY jobs we take on are a pain in the ****, but you'll learn which ones you want to do and which ones to hire out as time passes. from my chair your new patio area you leveled and put together looks great as do all your projects you have time to do and post pictures of.

congrats on the wedding and sounds like a fun trip to the USA too. i've yet to visit ORLANDO, FLORIDA, but it's on our list to some day.

keep up the great work and hope to see more of your posts here and also on the other great threads i think you'd like.

cheers and happy father's day!! (or does Denmark celebrate this like we do?)

Hi again.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I know I have been sitting on my hands for quite some time. :) Hope that is about to change now.

Status is, that we have had a very busy spring in the company I work in.

In January we were 3 persons at the office, now 9 persons just to handle the extra work pressure :)
Sounds like a positive problem. But that is not how my wife looks at it :dunno:
Anyway. Thing are getting more stable now, I have got my evenings and weekends back.

I digged up some images from when we had the roofing installed. Cant remember how much this was decriped in the thread.

Back in 2016 we got new roof installed. The old roof was a bit leaky and also 40years old.
The new roofing felt was installed in minus 15deg. (5deg Fahrenheit)

Just a single new layer ontop of the old roofing was enough. Should last 20-30years.

2016-02-23%2015.32.23_zpsed2lpjkk.jpg

Then we started diggin.
A family member have one of these. I would really like one of those.... So handy :)

The tractor is ours, and the carriage is my neighbors.
Tractor is a deutz-fahr 106 Agrotron. With 105hp (6-cylinders) for the neardy red necks like me :)
2017-04-19%2016.13.51_zpsfjsokfab.jpg

We decided to dig down 40-50cm. Maybe a bit overkill.

Last part. Only payment needed was a nice supper :)

Time to fill up the hole.

Not shown on picture: We put in between 10-15cm of stabile gravel. After this sand for the rest.

For every 5 cm(2inch), we stabilized it. Should have rented a ******** 2 times larger!

At last, I just found this one also.
This is a old Ford Super Major. My father justed it back in days because it had a front loader. Today this have been scrapped, due to the other tractor we have.
The Ford still start without any trouble. Even though it might be 5-7years in between. And as far as I remember, the diesel havent been changed over the last 15years :)

I have been in Norway since last time. Maybe I will post some images tomorrow.
This was in Narvik this time.
In december I was also in Sweden for a period. Is more or less the same climate and terrain as Norway.

The garage and workshop look great, loads of space!
House is lovely too.

My uncles have the same deutz tractor and even the same front loader although it's been having problems with the electrics in the gearbox, but that's a problem for another thread lol

Keep up the good work

Hi drivesitfar.
i have been fine, busy but fine. :) How about you?

Regarding turbine on/offshore.
Offshore makes everything way more complicated and more expensive. (We like in our business)

As Im educated marine engineer, I was planning to go out sailing for a couple of years. However, my wife did not think that was a brilliant idea to be away for months.
So being offshore is im my opinion the best!
I just rarely get out, as I do not have the needed certificates anymore. As im doing all the project management on the back-office.

In Summer 2017, I bought 20% of the company I worked in. As this have always been my dream to be a part of a company. (Also for justify all the "free" hours I spent for the company) :)
And since then, we have merged the company with a large Drone company from Malaysia (A very interesting company, very strong on software and Drone's) So i'm only 10% owner today. But the services we will be able to deliver in future is way more sophisticated.
All this have resulted in more or less no work on the house or garage the last half a year. (or 12 months)

I will also soon start up finalizing the last things on the house, as the last year I have been working as crazy, and that means I haven't had time for using money

A good colleague of mine, is educated Landscape architect, and I think she will make some nice drawings of our future garden.
I will ask her to make several solutions, where we can choose from a list what and when to implement the options.
To be honest, I just like it simple, but off-cause it would also be nice to have something nice to look at.
Deadline for this is q3 2018

Here is an update, to follow up on the last months.

Current and upcoming projects:
  • Getting rid of some soil in the garden. Finish off the lawn
  • Getting drawing made for future garden projects.
  • Get the garage more organized
  • Start work on the Nissan, I have found a helper :)
  • (maybe) by an wood chip stove for central house heating, as the heat pum can't heat up the house in very cold weather
  • Get the house 3D mapped with a drone
  • Resturrate the Stenhoj 3-cylinder air compressor. (Worn piston rings)
  • Drive some miles in the MG-B this summer :)

Getting rid of some soil in the garden. Finish off the lawn
We need to get this organized and ticked of this project. As I get depressed when I look at our quite large lawn, and it looks messy as today.
Something have to be done :) :

Raising the ground with 10-15cm

I had to fix myself a new work station.(open office)

How it is today :) Messy off-cause.
It is made of 40mm oak tree. (i love oak)

My wife have for some time now wanted a new dining table. Here she have it. It is made of 50mm Oak tree. Cut down for 4 yr ago. 3,2m long 1m wide. Have I mentioned that I LOOOVE Oak?

What this man dosent do for his oldest daughter :)

Finished result:

We had a party with some friends of ours. This ended up in a lot of wine, beer etc. on the table. Then It needs to be grinded down again :)

Garage clock, and When you are in Denmark, you off-cause need an Skagen :)

On our hooneymoon trip to Miami, Orlando I rented this beast. Camaro SS :)

Do you remember these shelves? I have painted them black today :)

Using Hammerite black

Finished result.

We then decided to organize things a bit. Here is how it went.
My wife organized things after their look, and not their purpose. Therefore I changed everything again .:D

For body work, Pott, Fiberglasspolyester, Carbon fiber epoxy etc.

Paint supplies

Always have plenty of break cleaner. Along with Diesel add. for system cleaning

Nissan parts

Time to stop. Good night.

Rene: other than getting old (and trying to stay in shape to eliminate all the creaking bones) i'm doing great.

nice to see you posting things again and looking forward to more as you have time to.

great looking dining table and looks like your father in law is very handy and a great guy to learn from. I like big old oak and almost any wood too.

how did you like Orlando (I'm guessing a honeymoon?)? did you go to Universal Studios? it's on our bucket list cause we've never been to Florida and we love Universal Studios in California.

speaking of wind turbines my bride and I just drove my daughter's honda accord to her in Missouri that was sitting in front of our house for the last 5 months cause we didn't want her driving it 2400 miles across the USA by herself cause her husband is working 6 12 hour days a week.

lots of these in the rockie mountains and not surprising cause on our trip we had winds over 60mph across a couple states. here's a picture of my bride and I about 10 minutes after getting out of my daughter's honda after one of those 7 hour driving days across Nebraska where some of those high winds were a good portion of that drive. surprisingly we could both smile and we might take a few more road trips just for fun in the future.

cheers and have a great day!!

The table turned out very well. We are also very pleased with it. :)

Orlande/Miami trip was honeymoon yes. We went over to US during for 14 days, during the memorial days.
Visiting Sea world, miami beach, Universal studious etc.

The couple of months have been the warmest here in Denmark since early 1900.
We are fighting 20-30deg (up to 86farenheit)
Eventough, the wife wanted a warmer house during the wintertime.
This have ended up in a new heating unit. Stay tuned.

Hello again.

Our house is currently installed with a 24kw geothermal unit. 1400meters of brine piping in our lawn.

The unit can currently only make 40deg warm water for heating. And this is simply not high enough temp. for heating up our house.
During the coldest days in the winter, we are facing 13-15deg inside our house

Therefore I have invested in a new stoker. That can burn off everything.
Wood chips, pellets, horseshit, corn, etc.
The unit is 17kw. But can be turned up to 30kw, with just lower efficiency.

This unit will be installed on our 3. room in our parking garage.

Additional to this. I have purchased a woodchip transporter at 6meters. I expect to be able to store about 25m3 wood chips in future. This is next year project :)

Found some images from back in time. And also had one of our drone team in the company, taking a shot from above :)

Spring 2018

From the 1970'

From 1955 (I guess) From when it was a public school.

I should have a couple more of these old images. That will be in another post :)

Enough talking, let's see what I have used the last couple of weeks on.

Had the new lawn panted. The ground leveled.

The room for the stoker had to be fireresistant, and insulated.

Before start:

Floor painted with 2 component epoxy

Walls insulated with 150mm

Only wall that is not insulated. Was installed in the first place.

White walls makes it all more bright inside :)

New heating unit have arrive. www.stokergaarden.dk

Closing off:

Installation:

Happy owner:

Pipeping:

Rene: thanks for posting more pictures of your AWESOME home. nice work on the furnace and you gave me an idea you might have already thought of.

do you have folks that need to board their horses? maybe put up a barn to rent some space to those folks and then you'll have almost an unlimited supply of horse **** to feed your new furnace? or not?

what several owners around here do that have similar furnaces is they have deals with auto shops and restaurants to pick up their used oils and not sure how far you are from a city or commercial area to do that.

thanks for the aerial and old pics.

keep up the great work and good to hear you got married cause she sounds like a KEEPER.

cheers

I said it could burn off hourse ****. Not that i would :):bounce:

Just found some more images of the large transporter I have bought.
6meter long. Screw diameter is 350mm.
These are sample images from the company who sold me the furnace and screw It was originally made for a 90MW Wood chip boiler.
It’s function was to transport ashes from the furnace to a larger container. But was ordered in wrong length. Therefore it ended its days in my barn :)

Rene: as I look at the pictures of your cool place from the sky it reminds me of the castles and cool scenery in France i just saw for a few weeks while I enjoyed watching the Tour De France bike race.

it looks AMAZING and keeps getting better so thanks for sharing.

also I was thinking of the income involved with you boarding horses to maybe pay for the new shop/barn and not the part about you shoveling horse ****. :bounce:

enjoy your day!!

Gents…
Today I got one step closer, to cheap and reliable heat from my newly bought woodchip stoker.

Since last time.
1. Finalized carpenter jobs in the stoker room.
2. Piping in the garage, is now ongoing.
3. Chimney installation is ongoing.
4. Installation of the new woodchip conveyor

Yesterday. I collected the new “used” conveyor. I was quite exited.
My wife tough, think it was ugly, and needed to go. Fast!
Dimensions: 6m long. Screw is 300mm in diameter. (12Inch)

Today will just be a lot of images, I will add text later, it’s getting late in Denmark 😊

In this condition, the capacity was 6m3

But I need more.!

Installation begun

Just love this old tractor. 😊

If somebody just told me, that this hole was not big enough, I did’nt have to take the conveyor out again. 😊

Well… After second try, it fits well 😊

My expatations Is to have storage for approx.. 25-50m3 wood chips.

My yearly heat consumptions is about 60.000kwh.
Woodchip is @700kwh/m3 (80% efficient boiler, gives only 550kwh/m3)
60.000/550= is 110m3 per year.

Ohh no….

Rene: you always seem to do things a few steps above the norm (in a good way) and not surprised you put that conveyor into the side of your garage. are you having tree cutters supply you with free wood chips and will they just drop in piles for you to shovel into the conveyor or do tell?

hope you have a great weekend and nice work on the heater!!

Hi all.

Busy weeks on the work, results in delay in the progress at home.

Have been out travelling some times, selling new projects to clients :)

However, I have had a couple of workdays doing the chimney and start digging a hole where the convoyer are to be placed in.

I expect to make the hole in a reverse pyramid form. With size 3,5*3,5 and 3m deep.

This is the state where I am now. Tomorrow I hope get get the rest of the sand removed, so I can pour on concrete and finalize this project.
This will however be done in hand, as I can't go deeper with the tractor. I'm currently 1,4m below ground level.

Today I have a couple of hours with my father in law. He helped me out on installing the piping in the garage to transport the heat from the stove to the house.
All piping is made in 1", as there are nearly 100m travel.

Have a look at the images. and Enjoy.

Tomorrow my father in law turns 58, so I will properly not be that much worth Sunday

This is a insulated chimney (double section bricks)

Only need to be one brick (40cm) above the ridge.

Soon to be a 3m deep hole. :) Rest is by hand :)

Don't know what I should do without our beloved Deutz Fahr Agrotron :)

Take care all.

Regarding the position of the conveyor.
I have decided to put it in a more vertical position. Properly 20deg to vertical,
I hope this allows for a bit more m3 storage :)

Tomorrow/Sunday I will give a update on the outdoor work. Hopefully the weather stays dry :)
Last weeks have been very wet. Not very suitable for digging in clay soil.

Rene: you are probably out of town working to pay your mortgage or for some more great improvements, but if you have time to post any more pictures of your garage or property please do.

I always use the paperclip that is just above in the middle of where we write our posts to download pics directly to GJ. they show up as a thumbnail so not the big pics from a link from a hosting photo website, but you don't have to depend on that website changing their rules or just going out of business. all you have to do to get full size pics with the paperclip downloading method is to click on the picture twice.

here's an example.

good luck!!

Dear all.

A long time since last update.
long story short. I have been extremely busy.:headscrat

Last year I sold half of the company I'm a part of, and they of-cause expect "full speed ahead" from my side. So i gave all I could.
15Jan-19 I got a son. He is also a big time consumer. So my project with the woodpellet silo got postponed a season.

A a couple of weaks ago I decided to start up my project again. This time I decided to go after woodpellets/very fine woodchips or seeds from sugarbeets.
Still using my 300mm screw convoyer.
Idea is to "reverse" it, so instead of pushing the material, it will "drag" it. So the motor will be sitting inside the garage.
I have checked the bearings, and it looks like they do take loads both ways :wtf:

Let me give you some images for the ongoing work :)

The hole have been digged out, so it is now 4x4x2 meters. (32m3)
Then when adding drainage+walls, the hole get a size of 3x3x2 (18m3)
Effective storrage: 14m3 ~ 9t wood pellets
I will make the system, so it is possible to blow them ind by truck, or by big-bags (1000kg)

Furthermore, I also did a projekt on my 2car-garage.
We have recently upgraded cars for both my wife and I. We have during the last 5yr's saved up on the car budget, as I wanted to get my beloved Mercedes. I bought these second hand. My C-class is a 2.2 Diesel with 170bhp, and 100.000km driven. year 2017.
My wifes A-class is 35.000km from 2017 with a 2.2l diesel, only 136bhp.
Im very happy

The plan with the 2car garage was to have more space when entering. This resulted in the pole in the middle of the garage had to go.
The beam have been swapped with a 140HEB. Calculations on this below.
I had to look up in some of my old books to start on the calculating again :bounce:

The walls needed to be refreshed, and painted. New roofing, same style as the workshop. And then the flooring had to be painted with 2-component epoxy paint, and then a topcoat of Polythane.

News cars to protect:

Cracks to repair

First layer Epoxy. It will be build up in 2 layers epoxt and 2 layers polythane.
The first layer epoxy is thinned with 35% thinner.

Walls is being repaired and "prettyfied" :)

New ceilings + 6w 12v DC LEDs

I'm very happy with the results.

Starting with the Silo again.

First... Good machines. Here with Leo, 4months old :) Named after my father that passed away in 2012.

The day after. 25mm of rain. :shocking:

Installation of dain pipes.
Around the pipe, gravel + a filterlayer is wrapped around to avoid it being full of sand.

The water is being directed to the first vertical pipe, where the sand is being precipitated.
The second is the where the pump is placed, to only pump clean water.

In this hole the screw convoyer will be placed in.

Walls are being made.
This is 15cm wide concrete blocks that is hollow. In the hollow center, new concrete will be poured in.

This should give a strong, and hopefully waterproof sealent.

Updates will come. When?? I don't know.
Take care!

Woops. Forgot the calculations for the iron beam.

Here goes. Own calculations in Danish.
Sorry.

Same calculations made on computer

Buttomline is. It will never break.
I calculated with the standard snow pressure on roofing+wind at the same time (worst case)
+ a storage room with 300kg storage capacity.
Everything with a factor 1,5

With all these numbers, my calculations ended up at 25mm bend of the iron beam. Witch will never effect the structure of it.

RENE: i'm still watching your thread cause there is always good stuff going on when you do get time to post. that said if you do have time to post on other member's thread and maybe put a link in your sig line you might get a few more members posting and watching you with your journey while you make a home a mansion. it really is looking good.

CONGRATS on getting married and now having a son.

CONGRATS on selling off part of your business and looks like you did ok cause that looks like a bunch of money in just those 2 black Benz cars.

that is some hole you dug and i'm guessing with all the engineering you calculated that it's built to withstand a 10.0 earthquake.

post more pics and stuff when you can and keep up the great work!!

Thanks drives.

First of all... I have been driving old cars for long time, to be able to save up for my C-class. Trouble is, when I finally start getting something nice to drive in, the miss complains about hers

Regarding other threads and posting. Your completely right, I have some projects I follow, but still not good enough to comment. :)

The woodpellet storage project was far more complicated and rescourse heavy than I thought. Time spent have been more than 5 times that I calculated with. Major factors is Weather, lack of nice tools, and miscalculations on time :bounce:

I will post images in a few. Might devide them up.

Since last update, most sparetime have been consentrated on the woodpellet project.

Todo list:
  • Brickbuilding of walls (done)
  • Lots of reinforcement (Have not done calculations) (done and done)
  • Make the screw convoyer ready for "reverse" transportation (done, hope it works)
  • Fight the weather :) (Ohh,,,, yes,,, not done yet)
  • Build the top of the hole (done)
  • Install slanted walls inside the chamber (October)
  • Protect agains water from outside with plastic/asphalt (please feel free to come with ideas) (Maybe this year)
  • Test with woodpellets (November)
  • Fully commissioned (Year 2025?)

Most of the images, is taken by my wife, so will most likely come in an later update.

Finally a day without rain, time for brickbuilding :) 4. august

Getting there. 25. August

I know... It's messy when i'm working

Installing the scre convoyer. What a challange...
The tractor could not lift it high enough to get over the edge. Then when we got it in place, it was 3cm too long. The electro motor was hitting the roof. I had to disassembly the motor while stading on the roof. Good that I have handled over my HSE title on this project :)

The wood rafts is for carrying the plywood for doing the concrete slab on. These were supported many places underneath. I will see if I can get some images from the inside.
Note: Tractor on the edge :headscrat

Allready some water in the hole. 2. September

Not in the correct spot yet. Have to be lowered 20cm, and then I need to make a slide the pellets can slide into the 1150liter storage on the stove.

:dunno:

:dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno:

The concrete slab have now been made.
It is made in 2 layers of 10x10 reinforcement mesh (10cmx10cm) 8mm thick.
On top of this, there is 8 rows of 12mm reinforcement steel .
The concrete is between 8-10cm thick. and will be supported 2 places on the middel underneath.
I don't have any plans for how to "decorate" the top yet. Might make some Epoxy paint for a chessboard or similar.

RENE: I don't have time to read back in your thread at the moment, but i'm guessing you made that hole to dump pellets into so it needs to stay dry? I bought a cement block home some 32 years ago and all the beams are sitting on top of the cement walls and I have a flat torch down roof.

if you build enough slope on your roof maybe from the garage to the back of your property I bet you could just use composition shingles. if you'd like it fairly flat other than torch down you can put on several materials they use for roofs and decks to keep the water out.

I may be way off here cause i've never seen a conveyor system like yours bringing pellets into a furnace/stove in my life so if you have questions feel free to ask. of course more pictures when you and your bride have time. i know you bride is busy too, but maybe you could give her your password to GJ and she can download your pics.

my bride of 31+ years has my password and I bet she's never logged on and probably never will unless i pass and she wants to contact a few members to come up and haul off my stuff so she doesn't have to deal with it.

cheers and keep up the great work!!!

Drives:
Long store short.

Husband: I wan't a pellet silo for reducing amount of work when the stove container had to be filled.
Wife: Thats fine, you go do that. But if it have to be above ground, it have to be pretty. Else find another way. And I was not allowed to build above ground at the same spot, as it will take view when entering the driveway to the upper lawn.

It is not easy when her vote counts 51% and mine 49% :)

Rene: well I have to hand it to you that even though she's got the overriding vote it looks like you are doing a lot (and I mean a LOT) of work to please her to get your project approved.

good luck and looking forward to more pictures of it and all your cool projects when you have time to post them.

also just an FYI even after being married and raising 5 kids to adulthood I've learned it's always better in most every way if you just learn 2 words. "YES DEAR".

cheers

Hey Rene,
Today was the first I've seen of your thread... not sure how I've missed it but glad to find it now! I've just spent the last couple of hours reading the whole thing... very interesting and I will say that you have done an excellent job on each of your projects!!
I definitely understand how difficult it is to find the time to get things done... so many things to do and still spend time with the family.
Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to seeing updates as you get a chance!
Regards,
...D
