I bought a set of those. I haven't used them yet, but I think they will be good for the stuff I will be doing with them. They were quite a bit cheaper at the Walmart I bought them from. They also have the nail punches and a set of small prybars all made in the USA.

I saw those a few weeks ago when I was in there and just about bought them. But, I have enough punches so I let them slide.

I bought some Dasco stuff at HD and I broke the tip off the Center punch on the first whack of a hammer. The metal was very porous looking like cast. I'm going to stick with Mayhew and Proto for now on.

I actually purchased this exact set last weekend and will be returning on my next Walmart visit. Aside from very poor paint that comes off on your hands immediately my set had 2 punches with defects. The 5/16 had an oblong out of round end (couldn't see it through packaging at store) and the 1/8 had a burr or something on the center tip almost looked like a roll pin punch. Also one of them had a nasty lump on the striking end which i could grind off but not worth the effort. I don't know if it was just my set or that they have very low quality control.

I've got a few Dasco chisels/punches that I've bought in the past. They're OK, but nothing to right home about.

I snagged an assortment of new Mexican made Urrea center punches a while back that had a low price and seem to be as good a quality as any I ever owned.

I'm still using Proto, Williams, and Snap-on, punches and chisels from the 50's and 60's that my father bought and from the 70's, and 80's that I bought. A good piece of steel is a good piece of steel, regardless of the name on it.

A lot of people make the mistake of not using starter punches. As a result, they bend or break their regular pin punches. "Intermediate length" punches made from bent or proken pin punches will help save your good pin punches too, and take very little effort to make.

You can never have enough punches and chisels. Seriously. Never.

Dasco is the worst pin punch set made. Using nails would likely work better then these.

Used a few dascos when I was redoing my living room. They did an ok job but you guys are right about the metal, it seems soft for something thats supposed to be struck. A few whacks on a stubborn nail and the heads are mashed in and the tips are rounded.

So I guess I'm one of the exceptions...I've got a whole array of Dasco punches, pry bars/pullers, and chisels and they've all held up very well. Granted I'm not a "pro," but I have put them through their paces and I've seen no deformation on any of them.

I have the same set. They are too soft. The tips mushrooms out too easily. Good only for light tap use.

I've had bad luck with smaller Dasco's. I have a large 1" chisel that is great, but punches all made it into the custom tool bin in the past (aka broke and had to be reshaped.)

I'd steer clear, these are at Walmart for a reason. **** that place.

These DASCO punches are a prime example that just because they are MADE IN USA, does not equate to quality.

I have the 2 pack of Dasco trim pry bars from Wally World and I havent had any problems. Used them a number of times and theyve worked great.

No experience with the punches though.
