So I cut the head off of an extra christmas extension cord I had on hand, and tied that in and when I plugged it in the fan immediate started spinning. I unplugged it right away, tipped it back upright and will give it 24 hours before I plug it in again to see if it will cool.

Glad that it is working. However, make sure you use a cord that is appropriately sized for the current that the fridge will draw. I don't know what you meant by Christmas extension cord. Don’t use something that is thinner than what you need.
