are first tier tools and products reduced to second tier status when they move to hf or are they really just being put in their place according to some.

I've found that yes, HF does carry some quality brands. It seems that those items are typically priced accordingly, however.
The Goodyear hoses always get good reviews here.
I've purchased Gorilla Glue at HF as well....but the price was competitive, not a smoking bargain.
With coupons, you can get quality items for a good price. And HF has no shortage of coupons.

They may have decent brands online but in my area, the stores don't sell the listed brands and only carry Chinese equivalents.

I have not been to my local HF store in awhile, but, they used to have real ViseGrip's there too.
Those were locked in a display case, you would have to ask to get one out.

A quality tool is a quality tool regardless of where it's being sold.
I remember they used to carry SK in the store. I almost bought this SK set at the store. Then they stop carrying it in the store. They only have it online. Now, I think they stop selling SK.

I have always found their name-brand items to be overpriced, or at best priced not a penny lower than anyone else.

I noticed a while back that they started carrying Gun Vault electronic gun safes. They sell them for about $100, which is what most retailers sell them for, but a 15% off coupon would come in handy here. Too bad I already bought mine before I saw that they sell them too.

Actually, the Pittsburgh Pro stuff used to be very nice. Over the last 5-7 years it has gone down hill though. I noticed that most of it is no longer ROC but Made in India instead.

Walp, from an engineering perspective, my concern is that the contraption is built so top & front heavy that her head must always be thrown back at an extreme angle to keep balance. I would imagine that in a moment's inattention, or while examining something on the floor, the whole unit could just topple forward, damaging those suspended protuberances at the front. I notice she is supporting herself with one foot forward on a ladder for additional stability.
That's just the engineer talkin'. But perhaps you have additional evidence that the unit is not so imbalanced as she appears in your avatar.
