Trying to find Gunk degreaser at locale parts outlets and striking out. Watched a video thru older post and it looks like Gunk has fallen to the way sides and now its Dawn or other non-working soaps to cut grease. So any of you have a good runner up to Gunk solvents? Thanks

It is kind of queer, they have it in the aerosol bottles, just not anything bigger like a gallon size. Thanks for the suggestion`s.

Go to a janitorial supply ask for Butyl Degreasers, they are the most common water based degreasers and is best used for cleaning petroleum grease, such as motor oil. When used on oils it penetrates and floats the oil, dissolving it into a liquid, making it easier to clean up.
Spartan SC20 is my go to as it is very strong and can be cut with water.

It's no longer supplied in any other form but manual spray or aerosol.....Only the concrete cleaner and the parts washer kit have more than a spray can size anymore.

I’ve been using the Napa brand Mac’s and it works just like the Gunk did. Works great. If you’ve got Napa in your area I recommend getting that one.

Honestly just check out the SDS for any big bulk container you can find.

Gunk is/was just bulk kerosene and petroleum distillates.

Sounds good , I'll investigate these other cleaners. Just ran out of my Gunk degreaser, so not finding it causes concern that a person mite take inventory what's next on the hit list. Been buying extra grade 5 and 8 bolts /nuts / washers just because the lighter grades are just getting to cheap / thin. The hardware that the stores are bringing in is taking a huge hit quality wise. Go China.

Spray your greasy stuff with diesel. Let it sit a few mins, then pressure wash it off. Diesel is an excellent degreaser.

When you get an engine or trans from JDM they spray them down with diesel with a pressure washer like Toyotadriver said. They look real nice. Don’t think I want a lot of it on the driveway thought.

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.

I use gasoline. Not too environmentally friendly but I handle that part OK. I don't use it around lights or motors, always outdoors and mostly in large flat trays. I never try to spray it, only a parts brush. Mixed with diesel works well too. I wash it off with Simple Green or Dawn Powerwash.

BTW, I have never found a better hand cleaner than Dawn Powerwash and Boraxo used together with some water. I've used a lot of different hand cleaners for over 60 years including straight gas when I was young and dumb. Nothing better than Boraxo and DP. It is literally one and done.

Parts washer would be nice, just not in the cards. Cleaning heavy grease off parts and keeping mess to a minimum is challenging though for sure. Thanks to everyone for suggestions, will post what I discover for Gunk replacement.

I have good results with oven cleaner, non-name brand from the dollar store. It also rinses off with hose pressure water. Good for degreasing engines, transmissions and similar. Also good for cleaning the bbq grill.

Only caution, it will etch aluminum, so don't use on polished or bright aluminum.

Genlabs Heavy Duty Degreaser.
Power Mite if you're dead set on heavy degreasing.

$9/ gallon.

Can be diluted down to 50:1 for kitchen cleaning, 20:1 for general cleaning, and at full strength we use it on fuel stations and our heavy equipment shop.

We keep two 1gal sprayers full.
One half water half degreaser for general cleaning.
One full strength for cleaning caked on grease and road grime/oil soaked doesel
Engines.

Spray, come back after a few minutes and hose away. Usually doesn't take much water pressure or time and parts look new. Great on cleaning heavy Diesel engines and transmissions before teardown.

Works 10x better than any aerosol degreaser we've tried. Especially the generic stuff any auto parts store sells.... and it's WAYYY cheaper.
Seriously, stop wasting money. It works.

Purple power is a beast as a degreaser I bought 5 gallons of concentrate at Advance Auto Parts on clearance for 5 dollars years ago and still haven't used it all and it will remove brake dust off the back of rims, remove the skin off your hands if your not careful, I'm not sure what they put into the concentrate that makes it so strong but it has cleaned a many parts and engines over the last 5 years. Best 5 dollars I ever spent wish I had bought 10 of them but again where would I store them...anyway that's my suggestion it is specifically a degreaser and does work great..
