in my ongoing quest to replace chinese tools with older, better machinery, I sold my harbor freight 12"-disc sander and picked this Delta up from marketplace for 60 bucks. in fairness, the chinese one worked fine for me for about 10 years.
at some point in its life, the Delta received a 10-amp Craftsman motor. it has plenty of power and is very quiet and smooth. I took everything apart for a good cleaning. the factory paint was decent so I decided not to paint. I did remove the surface rust from the table.
while I had it apart, I replaced the front shaft bearing, replaced the 2-wire cord with a 3 wire and grounded the machine. the internal motor wiring is fabric insulated and I fixed a few spots with heat shrink. there was a slight wobble to the disc, so I removed the hub from the disc and faced it off on my lathe. I also whooped up a flange out of aluminum to connect the dust chute to my dust collector. the optional Delta cast iron connection flanges on ebay are like 450.00! lastly, the Craftsman motor did not have a switch, so I put together a simple wall mounted switch. It does have what I think is the original mitre gauge.
