in my ongoing quest to replace chinese tools with older, better machinery, I sold my harbor freight 12"-disc sander and picked this Delta up from marketplace for 60 bucks. in fairness, the chinese one worked fine for me for about 10 years.

at some point in its life, the Delta received a 10-amp Craftsman motor. it has plenty of power and is very quiet and smooth. I took everything apart for a good cleaning. the factory paint was decent so I decided not to paint. I did remove the surface rust from the table.
while I had it apart, I replaced the front shaft bearing, replaced the 2-wire cord with a 3 wire and grounded the machine. the internal motor wiring is fabric insulated and I fixed a few spots with heat shrink. there was a slight wobble to the disc, so I removed the hub from the disc and faced it off on my lathe. I also whooped up a flange out of aluminum to connect the dust chute to my dust collector. the optional Delta cast iron connection flanges on ebay are like 450.00! lastly, the Craftsman motor did not have a switch, so I put together a simple wall mounted switch. It does have what I think is the original mitre gauge.

I've got an older version of that same sander (1945) that I inherited from my dad and I've been using for nearly 60 years. Refurbed it a couple years ago. Still use it frequently.

I would love to get one of these Delta sanders, especially for that price. No luck yet...
@jmarkwolf nice work restoring that one!
there were 2 for sale when I bought mine. one was on the other coast of florida, had the stand like jmarkwolfs' and the original motor but was asking 450.00. keep an eye out for the old Craftsman disc sanders too. in some ways I think they are even nicer. there's a few on this site if you want to look at one.

That’s one of my favorite machines out in my shop. I restored mine about three or four years ago and use it frequently. Congratulations on a nice find and restoration.

Quite a nice find. That is not the typical Craftsman motor you see (at least I've not seen the "mill type" before). Is there something special/different about it from normal Craftsman motors?

I've not had any other Craftsman motors of that size so have no idea. sorry. I'm not even what "milltype" means.
