Delta 40-440 Scroll Saw Electric Question

I recently acquired a working 1960 ish Delta 40-440 Scroll Saw with stand on Facebook Marketplace with probable original motor (1/3) HP for $50. It had been donated to a charity for a yard sale - no other history. I'm going to restore the unit for my workshop. Someone added a magnetic starter switch which I would like to remove and replace with a new paddle switch. I've read the only advantage to the mag switch is that the motor won't restart after power outage.

I could use some help on this one. Is there any reason to keep the mag switch? Is it OK to just replace it with a standard Paddle switch?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No reason to keep the mag switch. Thats a 1/3 hp motor, a glorified light switch is enough, though you can buy a powertool type switch online or at the big box stores. You could probably sell the mag switch and make a few bucks off that, they don't build them like that any more.

Its got the original badge that hasn't been painted over with that non original green paint. If you decide to paint it back to the orignal gray, then you can get those pins out and keep the badge from getting any more paint on it. Shame it doesn't have the retirement light with it, those seemed to go with those old scroll saws quite a bit back in the day.

Thanks. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. Interesting you should mention the retirement light. I picked up another non working Delta vintage scroll saw (1940 ish) as a free giveaway on Craigslist for parts. It had a broken upper chuck assembly but it had a retirement light! So I'm hoping to end up with one functioning complete unit between the two of them.
