Delta 4''belt/6'' disc sander

Picked up this Delta belt/disc sander today off CL for $60....

Model 31-460 it seems to be built pretty decent, heavy cast base, 1/3hp, 4amps, etc... It came with a bunch of belts and discs. It runs fine, but it seems very loud, the drive bearings feel smooth and I took apart the tension end and cleaned up and lubed the shaft and bushings. Perhaps some rubber feet would help, but it just doesn't seem to run super smooth.

I'll only be using this for metal, would there be any advantage to slowing down the speed? currently its a 3450RPM motor.

Is this a solid piece? Made in Taiwan, pretty sure it's from the 90's...

I have used the **** out of mine on metal at that speed seemed to work fine. For the money they are a great little machine.

I had a craftsman and it certainly was a noisy thing.

Mines noisy as well, biggest issue I have is the belt will not track fully straight as it should and theres no more adjustment available. Still works fine though.

If using for metal, do not slow it down. No good way to anyways.

It will bog down, its not very heavy duty. But if ran hard, it will pop a capacitor and those are cheap (<$5) and easy to replace.

You will find yourself using that combo WAY more then you thought.

On my craftsman there is a knob near the end of the sanding drum that adjusts the sanding belt tracking. Turn it one way and the belts moves to the left and visa versa.

This model has a tracking adjustment, pretty sure they all do. There isn't however a way to adjust the belt tension. Just a release to change belts.
