Does anyone know of a brand of wrench rack, or something similar, that really packs the wrenches together? I'd like to get quite a few in a drawer, but would like to avoid just having a pile of them. Maybe something that stores on edge?

The Snap on KRA15 series wrench rails have the slots closer together than any other rails I've seen. The box ends usually touch each other depending on the size.
However, if you're trying to store a lot of loose wrenches in a small area and trying to keep them somewhat organized, head to wal mart (or similiar store) to the housewares or office supply areas. There you can pick up small plastic trays meant for organizing for less than a buck a tray. You can then pack the wrenches in these trays by length.

Do you happen to have a link or picture of what you are talking about?

I think that marcusicp is talking about these:

They also make them out of plastic.

I use the Sears SortAWrench trays but for the larger stuff I have a piece of plywood with screws sticking up. I'll do something better when I find something I like and get time to build it. See the pic...

do you want to be able to take the rack out of the drawer?

No. Ideally the rack would be magnetic so it wouldn't do anything really heinous if the box went sideways. This is for one of those Snap-on FOD boxes.

Thank you for the kind advice. Honestly, if repetition wasn't allowed, the board would die off. There's only so many things you can say about Duralast ratchets or Phillips screwdrivers.

I really couldn't find anything that matched what I had in mind via search, so I was fishing for fresh ideas.

Since this is for a portable toolbox, which I should have mentioned at the start (mea culpa), what I might do is carve foam or use that plucking foam stuff, and hack out blocks of space where a bunch of wrenches would nest.

I'm mostly just trying to avoid having a small drawer with a tangled mess, but I don't have the real estate to spread everything out.

Alternately, now that I think about it, maybe the right answer is to use wrench rolls and just stuff them in the drawers. Most everything I have came in one, so it would be an easy answer. Maybe I'll just give it a try and see how it works out or if it's a pain.
