How to you go about getting rust off sockets including the inside?

You could try evapo-rust or vinegar

Sand it down....

I’ve also used magic erasers on light rust on tools

Or a wire wheel, brass wire wheel, then polish it back with buffing compound and a wool or white buffing wheel... if your worried about looks... to get inside the socket, they have wire wheels for Dremel tools that may work.

Other than that, idk, I’m sure someone’s got other ideas....

I need to find a way to remove rust without removing crome finish will evaporust work for that?

Be careful with impact sockets. I have read that it will also remove the black (oxide?) coating from them.

But I will echo the others recommendations. It does a great job removing rust. Keep it in a warmer location for better and quicker results. I’d put it in a container that seals because it has a smelly odor.

Soak in gas scrub and clean thoroughly.

Mix a batch of salt and vinegar to the approximate ratio of 1 gal vinegar to 1 cup of salt.
Let them soak for 24 them rinse in warm water.
Chuckem back in if no yet done.
This recipe costs jack **** works like a charm.

No need to spend any more than $2 at your local $1 store.

Done.

And it won’t remove the Crome?

Evapo-Rust won't hurt chrome plating as long as the underlying metal is in good shape. If there's rust under the chrome, it'll peel off the chrome as the rust is treated.

As far as I can tell, Evapo-Rust is a weak reducing agent. It adds electrons back to the iron oxide, reducing it back to metal. The Evapo-Rust solution gets blacker as that reduced iron builds up in it and the solution stops working when the reducing agent gets exhausted.

Yes, Squ1d, it would very likely reduce an oxide finish. You bring up a good point there. I wouldn't (and don't) use Evapo-Rust on anything with an oxide finish.
