Low time lurker of the forum, however I also had a simple 3 car attached garage that was filled to the brim and very ugly.
About 18mo ago, my wife and I decided to look for a new home to accommodate our growing family (twin boys who'll be three end of December) and also to give us some more luxuries we didn't currently have.
Her requirement: walk-in pantry. My requirement: at least four garage spaces.
After not finding anything we liked for less than seven figures, we started looking into builders and looking for land. We found both: land in December of 12 and solidified our plans with our builder in February. We broke ground on April 29th, 2013.
Thus far, this isn't exactly 'my build', as my garage was built by the contractors. Next spring I plan on fully tackling the inside: walls, electrical, insulation, lift, cabinets, floor, etc.
Some pictures thus far:
First up, a pictures of my boys on groundbreaking day:
The house was well built before the garage was started. This is a view from upstairs of the future garage location:
After a bit of work by the graders and some serious stone:
The surveyor offset the front and back stakes by a foot on each side. . . someone forgot to tell the concrete guy. This is what led to my 30ft depth - it was supposed to be 28ft. I didn't have to pay for anything. . . only issue was my roof trusses ended up being 2ft too short. Concrete paid for new trusses and I got a larger garage. In one day, all the walls were up - then the waiting game for new trusses:
Roof trusses were in and roofing went on. I opted for attic trusses over the two stalls and a cathedral/vaulted/scissors over the single stall - allowing me room for a full two post lift:
Not much else, buttoned up with siding, matching garage doors and exterior brick:
Finally was able to get the toy inside. As you can see, plenty of room! Not looking forward to snowblowing the driveway, however.
Until next time!
