I have a 900 sq foot detached garage that is insulated and heated. I keep my boat in there and have a bar and pool table. I want to do something to the floor to spruce it up a bit. I am not sure what would work best.

I can put everything in my attached garage for a short period of time but i do not want my attached garage full of stuff for more than a week.

On say a 500$ budget (preferably around 300) can i do anything with the floor? Its 5 years old.

I saw all those big bucks on the wall and thought you must be shooting some Ohio monsters. Illinois has some serious antlers too

I saw that earlier today and really liked it. I wonder if i could get a darker color for mine? What exactly am i looking for?

It's a methyl methacrylate acrylic sealer. It is tintable if you want to darken it up.

That sealer looks really nice for a less-complicated option. If you could tint it darker it would look even better. I think the low cost options are few and far between, aside from the big box paint kits that are seemingly not very durable. Shea, what's the durability like on the clear sealer?

I also had the thought that if the pool table area is just foot traffic, you could do that section in indoor/outdoor carpeting or something? Either way, if you don't have hot tires frequently parking on it, aren't welding on it, or jacking up heavy cars and spilling solvents, etc., you probably don't need to go for something heavy duty.

What do you guys think of doing a wood laminate for the pool table/bar side and leaving the slab on the boat side.

The boat tires dont get hot because they are still wet when it gets home.( i live 1/2 mile from the ramp). But it does drip from the trailer and boat drain. Also the boat weighs about 4000 pounds so i dont think the laminate would like that for very long.

We feel it's a great medium duty DIY sealer for a garage that sees normal use. It's much better than a standard acrylic sealer. We posted an article on it here.

I would go for indoor/outdoor carpet on the pool table side and leave the boat side alone.
Your budget is very low.

Im leaning now more towards carpet or laminate for their thermal properties. That floor gets freakin cold!

Would laminate wood be ok?

Have you looked at vinyl "wood" click planks? I'm planning on using that product in my 960 sqft workshop. It is durable, waterproof and looks just like a wood floor. Costs range from $1.50 - $2.50/Sqft.

Trust me DO NOT DO LAMINATE IN YOUR SHOP! Laminate shows dust and makes so much it makes a clean shop look messy very quickly. Look up acid etch and polished concrete. It's a cheap DIY project less than 800 if you rent the equipment from Home Depot. The maintenance and clean up are as easy as they get. If you want a warm feeling there are cool designs you can lay out also. And in the future if you want to lay tile over it you absolutely can no problem. Good luck and keep us posted here's some photos to give you an idea

Well i was at home depot this weekend for some paint and i slipped into the flooring section.

Oops. With a 6mm vapor barrier and 480sq ft of laminate it came in right under 500 bucks. Hope it turns out. Should be done by thursday

Looks nice Brichter, hope the install goes well! I was going to suggest cork, especially if you wanted something a little warmer, and it does very well with water (naturally mold/mildew resistant) but you can't beat a good in store deal sometimes. Keep us up on the progress.

I looked at cork and bamboo and they are alot higher than i can afford. I am thinking hardwood plus some area rugs for the pool table and poker table. Should work out well

This is the entire area im gonna cover. Now i need a transition from the laminate to the concrete as well as trim for the walls.

What do u guys recommend for the wall trim? I was thinking of painting some 1x6s and using those. Its probably 4-5 inches to the osb above the slab.

You could go balls out and make some faux wainscotting

Personally I would have gone with vinyl plank flooring, looks and assembles just like laminate but it's made of of plastic, totally waterproof.

Well honestly this stuff was an impulse purchase. It was .79 a sq ft and was right in front of me at the store. I dont plan on it getting wet on that side of the garage anyways. I dont think ill do wainscotting because i like the grey on the bottom. Im leaning more towards a 1x8 primed white
