Today I hit the local JY looking for a squirrel cage for my furnace. Short story is I found one that was perfect. Long story is I also came home with the DW704. Nothing broken except for the plastic plate that allows the blade to penetrate.
So initial power test it did nothing.. no noises, hums, vibrations..nada. Grabbed the MM and checked continuity on the switch, wires and motor windings.. everything read good.
Removed the armature and coils and noticed a small amount of abrasion on the bottom of the brush holders. They appear to have made contact with the commutator base where the wires are afixed. When I tried to power it up initially it was seized by the contact between those metal brush frames and the commutator. I dis and re-assembled it multiple times and could not figure out why each time they made contact. I'm betting at some point someone took it apart and lost a torsion washer.
Anyway I cut small, thin pieces of rubber belt and raised the brush holders just a smidge. And it was enough.
Got everything put back together and it runs like a champ!
