I currently have two newer 18V XRP Ni-Cad batteries and several of the tools:
- older drill that's starting to spark
- newer metal chuck drill (very nice but heavy)
- impact wrench
- jigsaw
All the others are corded.
I'd really like to add a 1/4" impact driver. I can get the Ni-Cad bare tool in the $100 range, or go for the Li-Ion w/ 2 batteries & charger in the $200-$270 range depending on battery size, brushless, etc.
The practical side says get the Ni-Cad. We know what the other side is saying.
I don't do this for a living, but have a couple bigger projects to do (helping my f-in-law with a lot of underlayment, and a big deck come spring.
