I currently have two newer 18V XRP Ni-Cad batteries and several of the tools:
- older drill that's starting to spark
- newer metal chuck drill (very nice but heavy)
- impact wrench
- jigsaw

All the others are corded.

I'd really like to add a 1/4" impact driver. I can get the Ni-Cad bare tool in the $100 range, or go for the Li-Ion w/ 2 batteries & charger in the $200-$270 range depending on battery size, brushless, etc.

The practical side says get the Ni-Cad. We know what the other side is saying.

I don't do this for a living, but have a couple bigger projects to do (helping my f-in-law with a lot of underlayment, and a big deck come spring.

The 18 volt Dewalt set is a tough deal and worth staying with. Im in same boat. Used a guys 20 volt and was most impressed. But its a big outlay to replace all I have. JMO
good luck Happy Thanksgiving

Get the Li-ion you'll thank me later. I was helping a buddy re-do his shed with a complete new roof including ply wood and other fixing up. I was using my impact with a Ni-cad battery all day. At the end of the day my battery died and I borrowed my buddy's Li-ion and I almost threw it up in the air because my Ni-cad was so much heavier and I was used to lifting that weight.

I wouldn't replace what I have now, only if they break. I guess there's nothing wrong with having two systems other than the initial cost.
