i was looking into the dewalt 204 piece socket set and the a set of carlyle sockets....i noticed carlyle was a little more expensive considering i would not be getting a big kit but a few rows of separate sockets and am wondering which is a better deal. Any suggestions on them would be appreciated

The few experiences I have had with carlyle have been positive, but that is only 1 or 2 tools. I generally use USA made tools only (lot of SK now).

Take that for what you will.

I can't speak for the Dewalt stuff but, I do own a couple of racks of Carlyle metric sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 drive. The sets are nicely finished with decent sized size markings. The sets are also very complete. The 1/4 drive set runs from 4 to 15 mm with 4.5 and 5.5mm included. the 3/8 set runs from 6-24mm without skipping a size.
NAPA tools have never been cheap but, if you watch the real deals flyer, have a AAA card, or a commercial account, the prices are cheaper.

Look into Kobalt as well. Taiwan made like Dewalt and Carlyle. And can be bought for pretty cheap on sale. The ratchets are nice a well 72 tooth and really nice. I know you asked about Dewalt and Carlyle but these are just as good and cheaper.

You're supposed to be able to warranty your GearWrench tools at and distributor that stocks GearWrench. I'm not surprised Sears employees would say that.

Interesting but I received a flyer in the mail showing the new dewalt tools and I sometimes wonder if they are not made in the same factory that produces other brands like say the Carlyle tools?

Could very well be made in the same factory, however if so it's likely to different specifications.

I've compared my kobalt and carlye tools and there are differences. For instance the kobalt ratchets have thicker heads and the flex head design has a detent ball that has set positions

Beams are thicker on the carlyle wrenches than the kobalt wrenches. Larger selection of wrenches, sockets, bits, extensions, etc in the carlyle line

Either way both brands seem to be good tools

Don't own any of their sockets yet, but I like my Carlyle long-pattern wrenches.
