This is what I use for real-time code scanning and logging as I drive. The best part is that you can customize your laptop screen to have the exact same gauges as your car and you can even set up alarms to go off at preset values (I.e. Gauges can beep or change color if they exceed a certain value).

Funny you should mention Autotap. Part of getting older, I have discovered, is that you accumulate more tools than you can remember owning. I actually have an old Autotap that I stopped using years ago since I needed to pull ABS (which mine did not do) codes and bought a hand-held scanner for OBD and ABS. Since the Autotap requred me to drag a laptop to the car just to pull a code or clear a CEL, I stopped using it and stuffed away in the tool graveyard.

Now that you reminded me I have one, I will dig it out and see if it even still works.

Just wanted to thank all who have responded to this thread - the info has been super helpful and been spot on for what I needed to get smarter on these things.

Have a Happy New Year!
I dont have it. I have used it before and the guy that comes to our shop to program modules for us uses it and his factory tools.. I do have a autel maxisys mini coming sometime today though.. It was 1500 on Cpooutlets...

As for the updates, I am not sure but I am sure they are expensive as they almost always are no matter what scanner you have.

908p costs more to update because of the "programming function" and it only programs BMW and Mercedes.. Ms908 or ms905 is the better value. If you get the ms908p you will be forced into the more expensive update when you link the j2534 adapter to it, when is time to update. I've read that there is no way around this except to never link it.
