Thank you. Thought the lock button is for locking the swivel joint.

They're both identical in the joint. One uses a collar to retain the pin, the other is welded. The "locking button" is referring to the pin retention on the male drive end. If you put that pin in line with the hole on a socket it wont come off until you put something in it to push the pin back.

That's odd the 2 1/2" models are the welded style with either pin or ball. I have the pin retention 1/2" it's very well made keep sockets from flying. :headscrat I use it amost exclusively to make 1/2" drive universal impacts.
