Difficulty of Hanging Drywall?

So I'm almost done putting the insulation up between the rafters of my unifinished ceiling, and will need to cover it with something. It is a detached garage, so I am not sure what code is but since I am mostly in to welding, I figure I should put something fireproof up there--drywall. Rafters are on 24" centers, so I will be using 5/8"s, but I have never hung drywall before and I'm wondering if it is something I will be able to do?

The walls are just pressboard, so its not imperitive that everything be PERFECT but I'd like it to look ok so I plan to hang/mud/paint the ceiling... how hard will this be fore someone that has never done drywall before?

Rent a drywall lift and a drywall sander. The combination makes things go much easier!

Yep rent a lift. I tried to hang some in my house with 10' ceilings using a couple 2x4 supports. Did 1 room and quit. I had 21 rooms to do. Rented a lift and it went up quick and easy.

I agree with using a lift.

Depending on how large your shop is and how much stuff you have in the way it might be more cost effective to buy a lift off ebay instead of renting one. If you can only work for a couple hours a night or have to move alot of stuff it doesn't take long for the amount you paid the rental place to be more than the price of a lift and when you are done you can allways sell it.

Either a lift or a couple of friends with ladders and a case of cool ones. Get yourself a drywall screwgun too if you don't have one. Screws not nails! Screw every 6"-8" around the edges and every 12"-16" on each joist through the sheets. Makes sure you have blocking for the drywall to screw to along all side and end walls. 5/8" drywall...probably 1-1/2" screws but 1-1/4" would probably work fine too. Just my two cents. You might want to invest in a drywall saw, a drywall plane, and a 4' T-square too.

Should have mentioned, shop is ~775 sq/ft.

Was definetly going to use a lift... how much do they generally cost to rent/buy.

What is diff about a drywall sander and drywall screw gun as compared to regular belt or orbital or whatever sanders and normal screwguns.

See above for finishing techniques and ideas.

Rent a lift. I used one of those slide out things that go on your drill so that the screw fits down in side of it and it slides over just enough to keep the screw from falling out when trying to put it in over your head. Sears has them for sure.

Comes with a vac so you don't have "snow" all over everything when you are finished:

I figuare that is what I will do when the time comes just because it may take me a year to get it all hung LOL I don't get in a big hurry when it gets down to the finish work I don't like hanging drywall anyway. but localy it is $100 to rent a lift of a week and I can buy one with an extension (I have 12'6" ceilings) for $200 I would be wise for me to buy it and then sell it when I am done.
