Might be best to concentrate on the Canadian market at first then branch out to the US. There have to be customers on that side of the border.
The post office, ebay and paypal make it real easy over here.

Sorry for the off topic question but Jim, do you have any updates on your MGB project? I checked the links and nothing for quite some time.

I have this week and next off and planned to get back on the project. However, my son-in-law is retiling his kitchen floor and I'm helping him out showing him how to do it. I also spent a day just cleaning up the shop so I have some room to work. Hopefully next week I can get some work done on it. Here are a couple pictures I took when I rolled it out of the garage for the cleanup. On the ground 039.jpg

So..... anyone else out there (in the us?) feel like doing this? What would it take price wise to make the effort worthwhile? Would love to have a set of dies, and there seems to be a decent need/want for them. I know there are several on here who have or have access to a CNC lathe.

If ChandlerW can't come thru for you guys.( I,m not saying that he won't...)
My machine can make oodles of those in a day once set up.

Shipping and payment would be my only concern.

I'd rather make kits with the GJ logo engraved in them and have you buy them from Ryan.:)

There could be kits made of plastic,Alu.cold rolled steel, tempered steel you can have them anodized, chrome plated...personalized
We could start a GJ custom fabricating tool line..

What were you thinking price wise, shipped within Canada? You could always go with COD, safer for both parties that way. From your post count and reading other posts of yours on here, I am sure I would trust sending cash.

Anyone interested in a 7 piece set for $120 shipped?
1/2", 3/4", 1", 1.25", 1.5", 1.75", and 2".
These will be 1018 steel or whatever I have laying around the shop.
Payment can be PayPal, Money Order or Personal Check.

If you want anything special let me know.

I'm in for a set, and I'm patient, just let me know when they're ready and how to pay.

I would like to purchase a set as well if they become available and are reasonably priced.

Bolt through style would be my preference as they could easily be used in a shop where there is no press.

Stump, I'd jump on a set for 80-90 bucks

A single 2" dimple die on ebay will run you $60.
I don't think anyone can make a set of 7 for $80 to $90.
Just saying.
I'm still working at getting some dimple dies out of this lathe.
The holidays have gotten in the way of course. Everything seems to slow down during the holidays.

Well, stump was talking about CNC, and they'd be easy to program on CNC, but you just have to have the right amount of demand.

To turn the question around, how many sets would you have to sell at say, 90 bucks to make it worth it?

I've got a lathe now, so I guess I'll be making some when I can find stock. But to me, paying 80-90 bucks is worth not making them on a manual lathe.

Happy Holidays people!

I am closed t'ill next week. It has been a year since my last Holidays, so I am enjoying them at this moment.....

I have deadlines to meet t'ill the 15th of Jan. At whitch point I shall knock out a prototype to show to all.
I think I will make them with a bolt hole for use without a shop press and it also doubles as a guide pin to line everything up.
What would you all prefer as a dimple. A simple 45 deg. or a radius? I'm cncing the thing, so eather is doable.
What sizes should we go for? 1/2 , 5/8 , 3/4 , 1.0 ,1 1/4 , 1 1/2

My only concern with steel dies is corossion. It would be aprox. 1 or 2 bucks more per matched set. (2 parts) to have them zinc plated. Yellow or Silver.
I am aiming for a price of $120.00 CDN.for a set of 6 diff. sizes , not including plating or shipping. I have a close friend in North Carolina that would be interested in distributing them in the U.S. for me.
Therfore I could send him a couple dozen kits at a time at my expense and you guys could figure out the shipping with him from there to your shop.
I still need to figure out how to export from here to there is supposed to work , so they don't come and get me.
Whatdaya all think?
Please give me some feedback on this guys.

I am up for a set. I would prefer a radius dimple. I would like to know how thick a material we can press. I use a fair bit of aluminum up to .080 and I can see where it might be nice to press .100. I think that Paypal is the best system to use for payment on just about everything. Costs to seller and buyer are minimal and they keep everybody honest.Best sizes for me are 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1.25", 1.5", 1.75", and 2". I could live without the 1/2".

I would want radius as well Nasty. I would personally like 3/4", 1", 1.25", 1.5", 1.75", and 2" Sizes. I would want mine in raw steel. I am not sure the plating would hold up from multiple uses... could be wrong though. I could take care of the rust issues.

I know for a fact they would fit in a medium USPS flat rate box, which would be a little over $10.00 to anywhere in the US. Who was is it that was willing to be the middle guy for the rest of us?

I am in Canada and I would be in for a set. I would prefer if they were sized to work with a Greenlee Knockout conduit set rather then standard sizes since I use conduit KO's for 90% of my hole making (except for 1/4"+thick material).

http://www.mygreenlee.com/Products/...=showGreenleeProductTemplate&upc_number=34757

Sizes I would be interested in:
1/2" conduit size punch - 0.885" actual hole size (3/8" bore)
3/4" conduit size punch - 1.115" actual hole size (3/4" bore)
1" conduit size punch - 1.362" actual hole size (3/4" bore)
1-1/4" conduit size punch - 1.701" actual hole size (3/4" bore)
1-1/2" conduit size punch - 1.951" actual hole size (3/4" bore)
2" conduit size punch - 2.416" actual hole size (3/4" bore)

Bore size wouldn't matter since I would use my hydraulic press to do the work.

If you can make these I would be VERY interested...

I dont know if you guys found someone to make these or sourced a place to buy them, but there is a company on Pirate thats selling them for a "decent price". Look like a good quality item.

dimple dies made from 6820 bearing steel, super hard and long lasting stuff.
these are a good quality, nice looking and affordable set of dies.

small set (1/2", 3/4", 1") $65 shipped

medium set (1-1/4", 1-1/2", 1-3/4") $100 shipped

large set (2", 2-1/2", 3") $170 shipped

6 pc set (small and medium) $155 shipped

6 pc set (large and medium) $260 shipped

10 pc set (all sizes plus dzus die) $310 shippped

I can get the guys info if you need it, or interested in contacting him. His thread over there is now 20 pages long and has no complaints.
(I am not the vendor, nor do i know the vendor. Just trying to help the GJ guys out)

I love the look these things give so excuse my dumb question before looking into purchasing but what do you use to make the punch? I have experience with auto versions of this sort of thing on CNC type equipment but at home would you just use a press similar to something from HF?

Look back through this thread and you will see the HF hydraulic punch set that I use. That's why I'm interested in getting some flare dies in pipe sizes so I can use the HF punches.

Hey guys, Happy new year!!
Just started up yesterday and all ready am in chaos!
A bit of an update about those dies.
A friend will put them up on his site for me. He takes credit cards and cheques. Also takes care of prepaid shipping ,for a small fee..
All I have to do is mail em strait to ya.No middle man. Yeah free trade!
Simple.

I ordered some of the materials to make a few sizes when the lathe gets freed up later this month.
I hope you guys will still want some when were there cause I'm dishing out close to 1500 in materials. Not to mention the 12 programs and setups plus cutting em up on the saw....

Going to be something like this, sold in sets of 1/2-3/4-1.0-1 1/4-1 1/2-1 3/4

dimpledie3.jpg

Once I can make these available, I will make a pipe sized kit as well as over sized dies.

Hi Claude,

Mark me down for a radius set too please.

I can do PayPal if you prefer but I'll wait for details as they develop.

Thanks,

Rob

If you read post 109 carefully you will find that I WANT to end up with what is pictured in the photo, only with a rad.
I have NOT made anything YET....the pic is from someone Else's post ,earlier in this thread.
I have ordered half of the materials already. The other half I shall order at the end of the month. I aim to have a prototype to show in the week of the 23 to the 27 of Jan. I will post it up for all to agree on before making a run...

My lathe is booked solid t'ill then. Oodles of bushings to make for my main customer now.

The dimple dies are going to be out of C12L14, Cold Rolled Steel. They should work on thicknesses of 20 Gauge to 14 gauge materials no problem.
My price of $120.00 for a set of 6 still seems doable.(plus shipping)
We will have to see about other sizes when we get there...

Once I have a complete set to photograph I shall at that point give all the pics and info to my friend who will in turn make it available to all , on his web site for purchase and delivery to any part of the world you may be in.

To all who sent me a PM. I will get back to you once I have something tangible in hand.
