Why? Not hurting anything,I put in a stub for a gas dryer 29 years ago in the utility room it is fine, been untouched all these years & the same applies to a dryer receptacle, if your worried just leave the breaker off.My dad told the builder to put in a gas line AND 30 amp electrical circuit for the dryer.
The 30 amp dryer circuit seems like a waste.
Disconnect or leave?
For the range, some like a "dual fuel" product, range w/a gas cooktop & electric oven.I built a house in 2006 and had all gas appliances but I pre wired for and electric range and dryer. It's certainly not hurting anything and the next guy might want an electric dryer.
Which is exactly what I have now. Gas top, electric oven, and a built in down draft vent. Talk about a ***** to install. For the range, some like a "dual fuel" product, range w/a gas cooktop & electric oven.
Huh? Gas appliances are still for sale here and there is no ban on them.Leave it. In not too many years you won't be able to get gas appliances. It is already happening in California.
Interesting. Never seen one of thoseWe use a heat-pump dryer; it's run by electricity, and is ventless - no more dryer vent lint fires. Gas appliances may not be a thing in 20 years, or it may be quite cost effective to ditch the old gas dryer.

A waste of what?My dad told the builder to put in a gas line AND 30 amp electrical circuit for the dryer.

I want to add a 60 amp EV circuit.
I have 400 amp service.
that was gonna be my next question- how does it remove the water.Very popular in Europe. No vent needed as they discharge into your drain to remove water instead of using hot air. Only downside is they're pretty complicated internally and more prone to failure.
Personally I don't like gas appliances except for cooking. No way I'd remove the ability for the next owner to use an electric dryer.
Next month goes up another 25%.that was gonna be my next question- how does it remove the water.
I love gas appliances here in commiefornia where electricity is super expensive
It is starting to happen. It is also starting in BC Canada in 2027Huh? Gas appliances are still for sale here and there is no ban on them.
What does? Electric? I dont have profit gouge and execute electric hereNext month goes up another 25%.
You said starting to. No it hasnt started. Your link says 2030. Keep in mind i live here. I can walk into HD right now and buy any gas appliance. It is starting to happen. It is also starting in BC Canada in 2027

And here I thought PG&E was a private company, except w/ monopoly power and assured profits.I love gas appliances here in commiefornia where electricity is super expensive
State agencies are major shareholders including CalPers… state didnt and couldnt let it fail due to that. And here I thought PG&E was a private company, except w/ monopoly power and assured profits.
Pacific Graft & Extortion is raising electric rates around 25% in January. What does? Electric? I dont have profit gouge and execute electric here
BummerPacific Graft & Extortion is raising electric rates around 25% in January.
They've repeatedly spent monies that earmarked for pipeline and transmission line safety and maintenance on other things, including executive bonuses. They lost massive lawsuits after it was shown that their failure to maintain clear areas around the electric transmission lines caused some of California's worst wildfires when windstorms hit in the fall (fire season). They're now raising rates to cover the damage assessments, and the rate payers get screwed again. They've been very effective at regulatory capture, being able to have friends on the PUC that are sympathetic with PG&E's viewpoints.Pacific Graft & Extortion is raising electric rates around 25% in January.
-yeah dont get me started on that atrocity
So true.Ignore all the thread derail which is becoming all to common here.
There is always a grandfathering provision or there should be. The way BC, Canada is doing it is via the building code. They are simply not allowing them in new construction. It will get thrown out because you cant make it mandatory for grandfathered install (existing home) required to run new circuits for appliances. In Some homes that would be super expensive to do so.
almost everything has carcinogens in it or leaking from it. that hash brown you ate from McD? yeah it has carcinogens. That coffee you bought at Starbucks? yeah it has carcinogens in it. That truck you drove behind with your windows down was emitting carcinogens that blew into your car.... we could go on and onThere is always a grandfathering provision or there should be. Reading about the health effects of natural gas, in this old article, I am surprised they are still sold. I am a cancer survivor and it surprising to learn the gas stove in my house is leaking carcinogens.
On the original topic, it is smart to leave the plug.

Almost everyone I hear talking about the dangers of gas justifying refusing gas cooking and dryers have a gas furnace and 75% of the time, water heater. I can't speak for everywhere, but here it's still more economical to make heat with gas vs. electricity. I have the gas lines run in preparation for the days my water heater and dryer shoot craps. The only reason I have an electric oven is because I have a slide in with a down draft and it's only available as dual fuel or all electric.almost everything has carcinogens in it or leaking from it. that hash brown you ate from McD? yeah it has carcinogens. What's your point? Are we supposed to ignore science?almost everything has carcinogens in it or leaking from it. that hash brown you ate from McD? yeah it has carcinogens. The point is, there is no point in worrying about it.What's your point? Are we supposed to ignore science?
Science is so politicized that have to be really careful on what you follow, I don't like gas ranges because they are dirty, but like the plastic straw "studies" those gas studies were based on other very feeble studies. (I am mentioning my bias). What's your point? Are we supposed to ignore science?
