This thread is about dividers, compass's, trammels and associated tools. Basically pointy things that aren't calipers.

Starting with some Stoddard's. 1872 and 1885 models. The 1872 uses tapered threads and matching nuts to hold the points or pencils. The 1885 version adds articulated legs. An excellent reference for these is at: https://allencompassingdividers.blogspot.com/2022/02/

Fulton dividers. The first two are both marked Fulton 202 but obviously different lengths. They are marked Germany on the reverse side. Probably made by/for United Hardware. The next set is marked Fulton Made in USA. What makes these unique is that instead of a spring to keep adjustments smooth, it uses a special knob that has both a right-hand thread and a internal left-hand thread. Last is a Fulton USA compass.

Millers-Falls dividers. First one is an earlier plated version marked Millers-Falls GFLD MASS USA. The second one is similar but is simply marked MF Co USA and has a black finish.

Proportional dividers. By moving the pivot different ratios can be made. Note the body does have a scale. Not marked but in a nice lined case. Looks manufactured.

Another unknown trammel but with fine adjust and two rods. Looks like it was made by a good machinist.

Some of the images are PDF downloads of patent files. Hope that is what you are referring to.

Is that the same Miller that had some plane patents?
No, different Miller. This one (George C. Miller) only has three patents listed on DATAMP.ORG and it shows he lived in Detroit and assigned his divider patents to James C. Maloy of Oil City Pennsylvania.

Great idea for a thread. Way too much goodness to read on my phone though.

I'll start gathering up some of my goodies for some pictures as well

Here's some curved trammels. Any ideas on what they would be for? Not mine, saw them online.

I just skimmed over this post without zooming in. After further review, they are very nice. Are they nickel plated brass with some of the plating worn off?

Patternmakers would use them for measuring and laying against a shrink ruler. Often used in turning large items on a lathe. The curved points would either both face each other or both go away (for inside diameter)

Yes you are correct. Brass that was nickel plated.

Two sets of drafting tools that belonged to my grandfather which would probably put them prior to 1920. No markings on them other than a DRP number on the ones on the right.
