A few months ago I re-organized my shop and downsized my tool box collection to one box. It was a good reason to look for a new snap on box and I really wanted a power tool organizer. I'm also cheap, so I decided against it.

I already had a nice older snap-on krl761, so I polished up and bought a stainless top for it and lots of organization goodies. I couldn't however, buy a power tool organizer for it. I could buy one for a larger 30" deep triple bank, but I would have had to cut it down after spending $300. The 761 is similar to the current KRL722 and is only 24" deep.

I'm fairly good at fabrication, so I decided to make my own. I did some searching here and found the part numbers for the tool "holsters". Since that's the difficult part to make, I knew the rest was just sheet metal. I measured and layed it all out in cad and had my local metal shop laser cut some aluminum panels. I bent them at a friends shop and here we are. I'm still waiting for a piece of 1" x 1" black uhmw for the support that goes under the grips of the tools and keeps the outer plates stretched apart.

Holster part numbers. 1098APA03 for the large one ($3.20). 1098APA02 for the small ($2.75). I probably have $70 in this total.

Bookmarking this thread because I intend to do the same thing when I get my extreme box in a couple of weeks.

I got the 1" square plastic bar today and cut it to length. Now the grips are supported and it's easily removable if I need one of the seldom used air tools in the bottom of the drawer.

That is a great idea! I have a deep drawer on a side cab I have that get junk and my welding hood put in it. This would clean up the top of my box as well as make that drawer a lot more useful. Great job!!!

Uhm, I just noticed something, that top of the drawer handle looks bent outwards.

Are you talking about the pictures in the first post? If so, it looks bent because the aluminum plate behind the handle was being pushed out by some screws that were too long. The aluminum plate isn’t square, the handle is fine. This box is in fantastic shape for its age.

I feel relieved and happy to hear that. :)

I went over to Snap-on to look for a new drawer for you, but their site is down for updates.

I used this thread as inspiration to make my own! Thank you Medwards for the inspiration. I have $90-$130 into this, depending on how I account for shipping cost on shared orders. The Snap-on version is currently $225 and only holds 4 large plus 4 small tools, where mine will hold 8 large tools. I also prefer to grab from this direction rather than sideways.

I used 20ga #4b brushed 304 stainless steel, all cut by shear and drilled by hand.

I still have some room in the center. I plan to use it for expansion, flashlights, air tool oil, grease gun for my impact wrenches, and extra battery storage.

Where can I get some of those black holsters? Is Snap-On the only place to order them from?

Even if I wanted to buy the ones from snap on I haven't been able to find just the holsters through them and searching the part numbers in the OP bring up nothing :(

They are on the Snap-On site; search the part numbers in the Repair Parts section rather than under Tools.

afazz where did you get the stainless inserts or have them made as I would like to do a similar setup?

I made them from scratch using 20ga #4 brushed stainless. I didn't even make a drawing or anything, just some hand sketches I never photographed.

I bought a SnapOn Classic 54 DoubleBank(Work) after CoWorker bought SnapOn Master 72 TripleBank
& I so wanted that PowerToolHolder
LORD bless me to find FaceBook guy selling his from SnapOn Classic 72 TripleBank (at my price) only issue was gonna be size/Height
Well came too tall for SnapOn Classic 54 DoubleBank(Work)
Too Deep for MacTool Edge 54 DoubleBank(Home)
Got CoWorker to cut just shy of 2” off Bottom for SnapOn(Work)
But couldn’t use bar because it push battery too high to close drawer so it look like yours in the pic
This yr I bought US General version from Harbor Freight for Mac box(Home)
Cut 1” off bottom fit perfectly
It has multiple screw holes for the bar height to be adjusted
So go back to work & bend & selfTap screw in SnapOn holder voila done!
Ps
I also recently bought USGeneral 3PowerTool MagnetHolder it fits in drawer also so there
