You should not need 12 point anything, those things strip stuff like nobody's business.

I have a set of craftsman universal 12 points that I pick up for anything with a damaged nut or bolt. They are cheap so I don't mind hammering them on, have yet to fail me once. There is a time and a place for 12 points.

I have 6 point and 12 point in pretty much everything, but I use 6 for 6, and 12 for 12, no exceptions

A lot of vehicles have 12 pt fasteners, including my 1976 K5 Blazer.

Head bolts on my ej25 DOHC are 12 pt also, although you wouldn't use an impact on them. Did wheel bearings on a TDI Jetta with 12 pt axle nuts the other day too. Glad I had an impact to remove them.

When I've needed a 12pt I've just used my chrome. Might be able to use them every other blue moon. I need them for nuts on headstuds but have to use chrome there. Impact wall is to thick.

A lot of flex plate bolts are 12 point. I have a 1/2" set from 10-19mm IIRC. SK variety. I agree with the above though, if you're a backyard guy use your chrome stuff, no need to clutter up your drawer with another socket set.

On my 97 Ranger the rear drive shaft to rear end bolts are 12 pt bolts so I have a 12 pt impact swivel. That's the only one I have.

The one twelve point impact socket I want is a swivel socket for 12mm bolts on Ford universal joint straps. If I don't run across 12 point fasteners in general to buy another set of impacts, and six point impacts are easier to find.

Some 12pts on brake caliper bolts. I don't have 12 pt impacts, but I have 12pt 1/2 chrome.

It's ok to use a ratchet once in a while too ya know. Just use chrome.

Ask yourself: "Do I really need to use my impact on this?"

Here is the one you need. Theses are specifically designed for drive shaft bolts. They can be bought individually, or in SAE and metric sets. I just bought a few of these myself the other day.

I have a set of 3/8 drive, shallow, 12 pt., impacts. 10 to 19 mm... along with a impact swivel, has done all I ever needed. Lots of applications mentioned by other members are right on. I have a 30 mm 1/2 inch drive for axle nuts... that is it. Sometimes you will need them..

If you do engine building you will probably run into 12pt bolts (heads, conrods etc) but it is usually the type of stuff you want to use a torque wrench on. Honestly like someone pointed out, if you have to ask you don't need them

If you are going to use those fairly hard and with any frequency, please post how you like them sometime in the future. I'm always looking for something like this. We go through Snappy 12mm 12pt swivels pretty regularly in our shop.

Of course the Sunex ones can't be as good as the Snappy ones since Snap-on sockets are made of awesomium and are always the best, no exceptions.

The only thing that concerns me is getting them replaced when they break. I don't know of any Sunex guys since our old independent dealer retired a few years ago.

Will do. Haven't used them yet but I'm sure I will in the next few days. I will post back here and let you know my first impressions after I use them.

I have a brick and mortar tool distributor about 3 miles from my place that sells Sunex. I was in there the other day looking for something else and stumbled upon these by accident. They only had two in stock and I bought both of them.... 1/2" and 12mm.
