Do Nylocks Walk?

I've been advised that new Nylocks, never removed after installation, have a tendency to walk.

Anyone out there experienced this?

Only if they get hot and prone to excess viabration.

Now if this has been posted on multiple forums, why in the hell does it need to be posted here too. Will this turn into a they said this, they said that thing? Or was it meant to be a warning to all of us.

My experience with grade 8 nylocks (1/4-3/8 NC in particular) is they tend to hold moisture and rust in place when exposed to weather, then you end up heating them to melt the plastic out at minimum or completely heating up the nut to remove it. Otherwise the stud/bolt tends to break off.

I now use a lot of vibratite vc3. Saved me some money when they specify you need to replace the bolt on European cars just because it had dry locker on it.
Supposively it is used to hold the turret of M1 tank. Good enough for me. Except they spec the upper temperature range is 165F. You would think maybe it gets that hot inside the tank parked in desert or at least after firing.

Nylocks are fine statically (most of the time) for dynamic applications we use staked nuts.

I do not use any power tools to run them up to snug, I think the friction heats and affects the nylon and makes them less resistant to staying in place once torqued. JMO

My Nylocks are more disciplined then to walk. They march in formation when they want to get somewhere.

Well, hell...they're NUTS after all, what would you expect? The good thing is they walk in circles, so they're not hard to find.

I've never had a problem with them... If something needs to stay tight and is a safety concern I'll either score the threads or spot weld the nut to the shaft. Otherwise nylock it is.

Bud it was just exactly what I thought it was......a totall troll post. I was just being nice. My first response I deleted as I tried to give this guy the benefit of doubt, but sure as **** just like this post it was a waste of time.
