I don't EDC one, as I tend to lose stuff too often. But I do have one in all my cars, have some in my desk at work (office job) and more than I can count in the garage, so I always have one handy if I need it.

I EDC an OTF Microtech X85. It’s a smaller OTF switchblade but it meets my needs perfectly and it’s also very comfortable to wear. I work in IT and it blends in nicely with dress slacks too.

Just can’t imagine not having a knife on me. Use it everyday to open packages, food containers, cut rope/ rubber lines, zip ties, etc. - whatever comes up.

Almost had to give it up while going to the courthouse a month ago to get a copy of my kids birth certificate. Was going through multiple checkpoints before I went through the metal detector and I forgot I had it on me and I couldn’t turn around either. Anyway I just laid it on the counter with my keys and cellphone and to my surprise they didn’t say anything so I quickly put it in my pocket. I have to wonder if they simply didn’t know what it was since it’s all black and OTF’s are illegal in Illinois. I’ve had to hide it a number of times as most places use metal detectors nowadays, but I’ve always found a safe temporary place to stash it. Anyway as long as I’m wearing pants or shorts, it’s on me.

Not sure if that's the case anymore. Bruce Ruiner changed the law in 2017 making automatic knives legal as long as you have a FOID card. I haven't seen any caveats limiting OTF automatics, and you can buy them online and shipped to IL.

Awesome! I’ve had a FOID card for years now. Glad to hear OTF’s are finally legal. I sure wish they would also make silencers legal too.

Just got my first Benchmade, the Bugout. Unbelievably light. Typically I rock one of a few Spydercos that I have, but this one will definitely get some pocket time.

Up until last week it was a Gerber folder.

Now it's a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt. My first "nice" knife.

I am limited to a blade 2 1/2" or shorter due to security rules where I work. The Dragon fly is incredibly light and the H1 serrated blade is stupid sharp.

As much as I like the dragonfly, it is a little small for use on the charter boat so tonight I ordered a Spyderco Salt 2 with a H1 plain edge which is a little bigger.

Both have yellow handles which I like for the same reason I like Dewalt cordless tools...I can find them after I lay them down.

FWIW - Spyderco has a heck of a discount program for active & retired law enforcement, fireman and military. I got them directly from Spyderco for half of their list price.

Top pic is the Dragonfly, the second is of the Salt 2.

Thanks,
I'm now a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 owner. I need one to keep in my office in CA while I'm traveling between CA and TN.

I carry one along with my CCW just about everywhere we go. You just never know anymore.

Knife sure comes in handy when the kids need a toy package opened. Some of them sure can be a pain without one.
