Do you carry a pocket knife?

We were watching a talk show tonight, and someone mentioned that they had one as a kid and do they even make them anymore?

Anyways, my wife commented that I am the only person that she knows who carries a pocketknife. I mentioned that she only hangs out with a bunch of "geeks" who would be dangerous with one.

So I am doing a little survey here. I think the results will not surprise me.

I know my Father, her Father, and both my Grandfathers did. Maybe I am the last of a dying breed?

I carry a Leatherman multi tool on my belt as everyday wear. I used to also have a pocket knife at the same time but only have the Leatherman these days.

I wonder how people that don't have a blade with them manage to get thru the day.

I always have one -- Buck folder and a separate multi tool -- in both cars in the side pocket. But for cutting stuff at home, I have 10 knives in 4 spots. So I don't carry per sey but always have one handy.

Every day everywhere I go, even events. If I don't have one I feel weird.

I've lost count of how many I own but lately I've been EDC my D2 ballbearing Milwaukee the last few weeks

If I have pants on, I have a knife. Aside from being the most universally useful tool in existence, a knife has saved the day on many occasions.

One thing I find very important, I feel naked without one of my old school spyderco knives, I prefer the all stainless and half serrated, half plain edge.

I rarely fly on planes, and every day carry a small Victorinix in my pocket and a 3-1/2" Gerber lock back in the side tool pocket of my loggers jeans. I put my knives in checked baggage or leave them in the car if I have to go into the courthouse. I use them all the time, and don't know what I would do without them.

I started carrying a pocket knife at about age 12. First a 2-1/2" Case 3-blade, and later a 3" Case 3-blade. My 19 year-old son carries a 3" Buck 3-blade and lives in Berlin, Germany while going to University. He carries on a tradition that goes back into the past further than anyone can remember.

Yup, have one clipped inside my front pocket all the time unless I'm at work (office) or getting on a plane. I feel really naked if I forget it. Nothing fancy, just a Kershaw or something. When someone needs a knife they already know to ask me. Same thing with a flashlight :)

Everyday since I was 10 or 11 years old. The past 8 years or so it’s been my leatherman charge tti. I’m still amazed how often I use it.

Grew up with it, my father always had a 2 or 3 blade jack knife with him, still does at 80+ years old.

I have a small Swiss Army on the keychain of the pickup and the single blade Kershaw type in all the vehicles

Just ordered in a cheap new Stanley Craftsman from the local store.

I used to... TSA has a great collection of my knives, multi-tools and C-wrenches now... I'm on a plane a couple weeks a month at a minimum... knife stays in the truck now, not willing to lose another one.

Yup. Buck multi tool on the belt and a folder in the pocket. Unless I'm in uniform then just a (******) Leatherman in the pocket. If I'm really dressed up it's a Victorinox tucked away.

I carry a leatherman wave and a kershaw leek at work. I have a mess of randoms for any other time. Lately it’s been a Boker Albatros.

+1 on the spyderco. I still have a couple of the older plastic handle ones, and one if them is always with me.

I have left the house without my wallet or my phone but I will never leave the house without my knife. I carry a Kershaw that I got dirt cheap at cabelas on sale but it takes and holds an edge well beyond it's price point. Once per week I make sure it's still sharp enough to shave hair, if not I sharpen it otherwise we carry on for another week. It's the best combination pry bar, screwdriver, can opener, pizza cutter I own.

I usually carry a knife. Nothing special just whatever I find for cheap, I have a habit of loosing one every now and then.

I am 75 years old and have carried a pocket knife since before I became a teenager. For many years my every day carry has been a Benchmade 705 McHenry & Williams.

Everyday, SOG Twitch Tanto. I even ordered a black anodized clip so it doesn't stand out so much when I'm wearing dress pants at work since some people made comments and I didn't want to have the talk with HR.

Always have a mini Victorinox on my keychain, and have several others that I carry as well. Spyderco and Kershaw are two of my favorites.

Same here... well, it’s actually a Gerber. Feel naked when I don’t have it.

I very much enjoy quality knives.

If you think the immaturity and inanity of some of our members here is, well, interesting,
you ought to spend a while on a knife forum. holy moly.

Carried a knife with me every single day since I was 6 years old. Carried one at school every day when I was a kid. Never, ever leave home without one. Simply carrying a knife could save your life or the life of someone else (no I’m not talking about defensively). If anyone, male or female doesn’t have a knife then I feel you are being irresponsible and unprepared, expecially if you have children. The knife is one of the oldest tools we created and for good reason.

I got a bit carried away the last decade or so collecting and using knives, multitools, and flashlights in hopes of finding the “perfect” knife, multitool, etc. After all that time buying, using, and selling I found out there is no perfect anything in these categories. Without going on a incredibly long (not right now anyways) insight into what I learned which would possibly bore you to death, I’ll just say I found what works best for me and what brings me a combination of performance and a pride of ownership and joy of use. I only really carry a Spyderco Salt 1 in H1 (full serrated) with black blade, black handle. Spyderco Pacific Salt in H1 (full serrated) with black blade, black handle. Chris Reeve Large Sebenza, plain Jane model with S35VN blade. Last but not least is a Benchmade Griptillian with AWT custom rebuild kit, with I believe 154CM steel. For flashlights the Zebralight SC52 is the best AA flashlight I have ever owned and is hands down my favorite. The Olight’s are a close second. For multitools I carry a Leatherman Surge all black. I’ve been through 1000’s of multitools alone and it’s the one that I could carry for the rest of my life. The Victorinox Swisstool X or RS and Swisstool Spirit X are also incredible tools and are much better quality than the Surge but there are a few key things (for me) which make me choose the Surge.

Sorry for the surely boring to a lot of you post.

Swiss Army one with a philips on my keys everywhere I go. I'm in corporate IT and support the C-suite and I use it almost every day to open packaging, it gives me a blade and screwdriver everywhere I go.

I have carried the same Buck folder my son bought for me when he was 12. That was 25 years ago and I have had a knife of some sort handy for years before that. I will leave the Buck home if there is a chance of losing it, but generally will have something with me. Too handy not to have.
