Carried a knife with me every single day since I was 6 years old. Carried one at school every day when I was a kid. Never, ever leave home without one. Simply carrying a knife could save your life or the life of someone else (no I’m not talking about defensively). If anyone, male or female doesn’t have a knife then I feel you are being irresponsible and unprepared, expecially if you have children. The knife is one of the oldest tools we created and for good reason.
I got a bit carried away the last decade or so collecting and using knives, multitools, and flashlights in hopes of finding the “perfect” knife, multitool, etc. After all that time buying, using, and selling I found out there is no perfect anything in these categories. Without going on a incredibly long (not right now anyways) insight into what I learned which would possibly bore you to death, I’ll just say I found what works best for me and what brings me a combination of performance and a pride of ownership and joy of use. I only really carry a Spyderco Salt 1 in H1 (full serrated) with black blade, black handle. Spyderco Pacific Salt in H1 (full serrated) with black blade, black handle. Chris Reeve Large Sebenza, plain Jane model with S35VN blade. Last but not least is a Benchmade Griptillian with AWT custom rebuild kit, with I believe 154CM steel. For flashlights the Zebralight SC52 is the best AA flashlight I have ever owned and is hands down my favorite. The Olight’s are a close second. For multitools I carry a Leatherman Surge all black. I’ve been through 1000’s of multitools alone and it’s the one that I could carry for the rest of my life. The Victorinox Swisstool X or RS and Swisstool Spirit X are also incredible tools and are much better quality than the Surge but there are a few key things (for me) which make me choose the Surge.
Sorry for the surely boring to a lot of you post.
